Kwanzaa’s political roots

  • At Life Training Institute, Clinton Wilcox addresses the controversy surrounding Marco Rubio’s recent assertion that life at conception is “settled science.” The Washington Post decided to do a “fact check” on Rubio’s claim – or did they? Wilcox writes:
In order to “look at the science” on the abortion issue, Philip Bump, the author of the Washington Post article, reached out to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. This was the statement they returned to him: “Government agencies and American medical organizations agree that the scientific definition of pregnancy and the legal definition of pregnancy are the same: pregnancy begins upon the implantation of a fertilized egg into the lining of a woman’s uterus. This typically takes place, if at all, between 5 and 9 days after fertilization of the egg — which itself can take place over the course of several days following sexual intercourse.”

conception when human life begins and pregnancy

Now I don’t know what question Bump used to ask regarding this. But notice that ACOG

didn’t answer the question

… because ACOG is a pro-abortion organization. So they have a vested interest in using flowery language, such as when pregnancy beings, to muddy the waters so that they don’t give the impression to the general American public that they are supporting the deaths of unborn human children. They were being purposefully vague and misleading.

I have no problem with the definition of pregnancy beginning at implantation. But even if this is the case, that doesn’t prove that the unborn are not human before that point. There is nothing about the act of implanting in the womb that would suddenly bestow humanity to the unborn child. But even if we take the ACOG’s statement, this would still show that since pregnancy begins roughly a week after fertilization, all abortions past that point do, in fact, kill a human being.

  • Clinic Quotes shares an interesting excerpt from an obstetrics and gynecology textbook published prior to Roe v. Wade. Seems like the pro-choice movement has taken the idea to heart:
Through public conditioning, use of language, concepts and laws, the idea of abortion can be separated from the idea of killing.
  • Judie Brown discusses birth control and why the Pill “is sinful and destroys marriage, families, the bodies of women, and the lives of preborn babies prior to implantation in the wombs of their mothers.”
  • Josh Brahm shares the news that his good friend, Deanna, has converted to the pro-life viewpoint:
Deanna would tell you that two things were necessary conditions for her conversion: rigorous philosophical arguments and a loving friendship with someone on the other side. The intellectual arguments were very important. I haven’t written very much about our initial email exchanges yet, but we got very philosophical, going back and forth on issues like bodily rights arguments, rape, the concept of intrinsic human value, concepts of harm and taking away the dignity of people in temporary comas, moral objectivism, utilitarianism, stem cell research, the “after-birth abortion” paper, and the use of graphic pictures.Josh and Deanna are also willing to speak at events together, detailing their relationship and their conversations, which led her to change her position on life.

  • At Live Action, Ashley Herzog gives her thoughts on DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s controversial (and frankly, anti-woman) comments regarding forced abortions:
Following a high-profile case in which a Florida man, John Andrew Welden, slipped his girlfriend the abortion pill, the Florida legislature passed a bill criminalizing such behavior. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a so-called feminist, attacked the legislation as a waste of time.

“Florida Republican lawmakers have wasted taxpayers time and money by passing these extreme bills that further limit women’s reproductive rights. It is senseless and it’s wrong,” said Wasserman Schultz.

Since when did being “pro-choice” include supporting the “choice” of men to force an abortion upon unwilling women?…

How is a man forcing a woman to have an abortion different from forcing a woman to have sex with him?

How to convince a girl to get an abortion

Demotivator 0274

If you are not ready to be a father, the following arguments may help you convince a girl to get an abortion. The first two methods I describe below have worked for me in separate instances for the two abortions I have paid for….

How The “Hail Mary” Works

You need to bring up the subject of abortion with every ounce of verbal finesse and situation-appropriate sensitivity. You should sound as sincere as possible and tell her that you want her to be the mother of your children one day, but that now is not the right time to start a family. Explain you want to wait until you are further along in your career/life goals and you can afford to give your future family all the comforts of life you cannot deliver today. Finally, explain if she has the abortion now, you will be able to plan your lives together so that everything is perfect. Then, after she agrees and has the abortion, dump her. It’s called a “hail mary” in part because of its difficulty to execute, so if you stay with her post-abortion and she becomes pregnant again you’re really f***ed….

How The A**hole Method Works

You need to channel your inner cold, unforgiving, unapologetic asshole nature, as nothing less will suffice. You must not ask, but rather tell her to get an abortion because if she refuses this child will be a bastard. Explain to her in no uncertain terms that you will not be a father to this child. I would avoid personal shots of telling her she is unfit to be a mother because this could backfire on you, but make it clear that if she keeps the baby you will be opting out of fatherhood. Explain that while she may end up collecting the minimum in child support that the state can take from you, in no way will you participate in raising this kid or being a father to it. To instill the seriousness of your message, add that you will refuse any efforts in the future to include you in the child’s life….

  • At Women’s Rights Without Frontiers, Reggie Littlejohn reports on Lili Zeng of China, who was forced to abort her first child at nine months pregnant and watch him die in her arms. She has attempted suicide three times since this horrific event. Where is the outrage from feminists and pro-choicers?

Her experience shows that full-term babies born alive after a botched forced abortion may be left to die. Her experience also shows that a woman can be forcibly aborted up to the ninth month of pregnancy with the consent of her presumed husband.

Finally, Ms. Zeng’s experience shows that – even when a woman is pregnant with her first child – if it is her husband’s second child, she can be forcibly aborted.

  • Pro-life Action League comments on the new California law which aims to remedy the abortion doctor shortage by allowing non-physicians (nurses, midwives, and physician assistants) to perform abortions. They must have access to a doctor in the event of complications. Perhaps abortion will now have to be “between a woman and her ‘provider of choice’.” Reminder: CA does not report their state abortion statistics.
  • Secular Pro-Life takes on the abortion industry’s claims that complications are rare and that abortion regulations are unnecessary:

According to the Guttmacher Institute, which strongly supports abortion, approximately 0.5% of abortion patients have a complication that requires hospitalization. That’s likely a low figure, but let’s assume that they’re right for the sake of argument. When you consider that there are well over one million abortions performed in the United States annually, the number of patients requiring hospitalization after an abortion would be over 5,000! Don’t these 5,000+ women deserve optimal care?…

[T]hink about all the government-required safeguards in place in case a school [catches] fire. There are alarm pull stations, portable and overhead fire extinguishers, emergency exit doors, fire drills, and fire lanes around the school building. Even though school fires are rare, we still plan for the worst-case scenario regardless of the chances of such an event happening.

Good point. But the abortion industry is really concerned with their bottom line, not with safety.

  • Wesley J. Smith comments on new research that reveals how children remember words they heard prior to birth and how that relates to personhood:

Will this make the Peter Singers and the “after-birth abortion” advocates of the world back off from their dehumanization of late term fetuses and infants? Will we now look at late term abortion as the killing of a full member of the moral community?

Dream on, Wesley! We can’t let evidence of cognitive function get in the way of expedient desires or utilitarian outcomes.

  • Pro-Life New Mexico thinks there may be a lot of attention and press surrounding Albuquerque’s expected certification of a ballot initiative to ban abortions past 20 weeks.
  • At National Review Online, Michael J. New discusses the findings of a new Pew research poll showing 49% of Americans find abortion “morally wrong” with only 15% of Americans deeming it “morally acceptable.” The poll also found that women were more likely than men to consider it wrong.

  • At Stand True, Bryan Kemper has an update on a baby (Michael, pictured left) and mother helped by faithful pro-life workers:

Earlier this year, we told you about a woman who called our office upset at our newsletter asking for donations. God softened her heart as we were on the phone and she opened up and shared with us about her plans to have an abortion. We were able to talk with her and help connect her to a wonderful counselor in her city. After meeting with this counselor she decided to keep her baby and cancelled her abortion.

She lost her job due to this pregnancy and I asked all of you to donate so we could cover her rent and car payment that month. Your generosity was touching and we were able to help her pay her bills and then the counselor was able to help find her a job.

  • Priests for Life’s Father Frank Pavone and Dr. Alveda King commemorate the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington by recalling some words from her uncle, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.:

The next thing we must be concerned about if we are to have peace on earth and good will toward men is the nonviolent affirmation of the sacredness of all human life…. When we truly believe in the sacredness of human personality, we won’t exploit people, we won’t trample over people with the iron feet of oppression, we won’t kill anybody.

Using social media to save lives

Blue Facebook Logoby Lead Moderator Carla

I have been on Facebook for years and have added many pro-lifers to my friends list in an effort to stay current on pro-life issues. But I also try to educate the friends I have who do not know the truth about the abortion industry.

In at least four instances, I have been involved in helping stop forced abortions by simply responding to status updates or prayer requests on Facebook. These were women and teenage girls being coerced by boyfriends or parents. I responded with immediate practical help and advice to keep innocent lives from being destroyed. One of the ways I did this was to encourage them to contact The Center Against Forced Abortion, which is a project of The Justice Foundation.

My friend, attorney Allan Parker, is at JF to help women who are being forced into abortions. CAFA also provides several forms that can be downloaded, printed, and distributed to young women, their parents, or their significant others. These should be in the hands of every sidewalk counselor and should also be available at pregnancy resource centers.

In the cases where I have been involved, those who were trying to force an abortion were advised that their actions were illegal.

The Center Against Forced Abortion has this to say about coercion:

Problem –

  • Many teenage girls are being coerced into abortion by their parents
  • Pregnancy resource centers are generally unequipped to help legally defend these clients, and subsequently coerced abortions occur
  • Even under Roe v. Wade, the decision to keep the child is supposedly the woman’s alone, so these young women’s rights are being violated when they are coerced into abortion

Response –

  • The Justice Foundation has created a “Dear Parent Letter,” which (in a friendly, helpful, and serious manner) informs the teen mother’s parents that they could be guilty of illegal actions if they force their daughter to have an abortion
  • Combined with Life Dynamics’ Letter to Abortionists, which is a signed statement indicating the mother’s non-consent to an abortion, the two documents form a powerful legal defense that empowers the teen mother to stand for her child

Effectiveness –

  • Gives pregnancy centers a proven strategy to defend teens from parentally coerced abortions
  • Equips the teen mother with legal documents empowering her decision to keep her child
  • Trial distributions indicate the strategy is very effective (testimonies below)
  • If just one baby is saved at two out of every three pregnancy resource centers that receive the letter and training, then CAFA will facilitate the protection of 2,000 babies lives

logoThere have also been instances when abortion vulnerable and abortion minded mothers that have sent personal messages to me on Facebook seeking help. In those cases, I have been able to refer many to pregnancy resource centers, and others to post-abortion recovery programs if they were forced into abortions.

We don’t have to helplessly stand on the sidewalk when a young woman is crying out to us that she DOES NOT want an abortion, and we don’t have to merely post a sad face comment on social media in response. We can help to stop forced abortions!

Lives of mothers and their children have been saved through social media. Facebook has given us all an amazing opportunity to make a difference, and I, for one, will not squander it.

  • The Washington Post discovers that most people (including the majority of Democrats) would prefer abortions to be restricted after 20 weeks. The poll also found that only 1% of people volunteered the opinion that abortion should be “always legal” compared to 8% who volunteered “never legal.”
  • Michael J. New has encouraging news about the rate of sexual activity among teens, as well as information regarding public support of 20-week abortion bans.
  • A Green Bay, Wisconsin clinic which performed abortions will no longer do so after being bought. The abortionist, Robert DeMott, agreed to no longer perform abortions after selling his Ob/Gyn Associates clinic to Bellin Health System. His clinic was the only abortion provider in Green Bay:

In the declaration by DeMott, he acknowledges the sale to Bellin, indicates he will become an employee of Bellin, and as a condition of employment with Bellin he says, “I may not provide abortion services to any patient.”

  • In light of the J.J. Redick abortion contract, New York Magazine’s Kat Stoeffel writes that the idea has “practical potential”:

Abortion can be kind of heavy, so abortion contracts should be lighthearted and verbal — along the lines of “our objective is not procreation, pinky swear” — and definitely precoital. When they are hashed out after the fact, abortion contracts can become contentious, expensive, and even a little supernatural, as it did for abortion-contract pioneer and NBA player J.J. Redick.

BREAKING: Documents show NBA player coerced pregnant girlfriend to abort

Yesterday, MediaTakeOut.com released an abortion contract dating back to 2007 between NBA player J. J. Redick and then-girlfriend Vanessa Lopez.

I’ve had this and other documents related to that abortion for the better part of two weeks but out of concern for Vanessa wanted to make contact with her before going public.

This morning I spoke to a knowledgeable source close to Vanessa, to whom she gave permission to speak to me. Neither Redick’s attorney, agent, or wealth manager have immediately responded to my request for comment.

The contract between Redick and Vanessa is bizarre, outlining an agreement for Lopez to receive $25,000 in return for aborting a baby Redick denied was his if Redick broke off the relationship after her abortion. In addition, once Lopez showed proof she had gotten the abortion, Redick agreed to “maintain a social and/or dating relationship” with her for one year – unless either he or she decided to break it off. Like I said, bizarre.

At the time Redick was 23 years old and a rookie with the Orlando Magic. He now plays for the Los Angeles Clippers. Lopez was 28 and a model.

The contract was signed the morning of September 13, 2007, mere hours before Lopez got her abortion at All Women’s Health Center in Orlando, Florida. In fact, her source told me she had already taken her pre-op Valium when she signed it. I have all the abortion documents, which out of respect for Vanessa I will not post, except this section (click all images to enlarge):

Despite the fact Lopez felt “forced into” the abortion, abortionist Harry Perper, infamous in the pro-life community, went through with it. Lopez was estimated to be between 16-17 weeks along, and since the abortion was started and finished the same day, the second trimester procedure was a D&E. It cost $1,150.

Redick, his attorney, Gregory McNeil, and his wealth manager, Jeff Silverman, knew the contract was a “charade,” and they were crass and sexist about it, particularly given the subject. Emails between them the afternoon before Lopez’s abortion:

The afternoon the abortion was completed, McNeill pushed to get confirmation from Lopez, showing her no regard….

It was at this point things soured. Vanessa never tried to collect the $25,000, and she never heard from Redick again.

Why did Lopez get the abortion? My source: “She got the abortion to save the relationship. She was fairly young, fairly immature, and clearly in love. I do believe she was manipulated by Redick. She told me she wanted to have this baby but he was adamant in his opposition.  She thought if she did what he wanted her to do, he would continue the relationship with her. What self-respecting person would sign such a document? My sense is she was simply operating in an emotional state that precluded her from acting rationally. She had no attorney. She hoped somehow, some way that doing what he wanted her to do would benefit her in the long run.”

Sadly, that did not come to pass. Vanessa began to experience symptoms of post-abortion stress syndrome. She sought professional help. From a September 2008 letter to the court (more on that below) from her doctor:

How I came by these documents takes us a bit into the weeds.

Before she started dating Redick, Lopez had an affair with another NBA player, Shaquille O’Neal, while he was married, in 2004.

alg-shaq-oneal-vanessa-lopez-jpgLong story short, after that relationship deteriorated, Lopez filed a lawsuit against O’Neal for harassment. His attorneys proceeded to portray Lopez as a serial athlete chaser and gold digger who lacked credibility. Part of that strategy was to introduce evidence of past interactions Vanessa had with other athletes, including Redick. They said she lied about her pregnancy to exploit her relationship with Redick.

Lopez’s legal team admitted sealed abortion documents into evidence to prove that she wasn’t lying. Someone either leaked the information, or a court clerk inadvertently released it to TMZ, and perhaps others. I got the documents from a pro-life source in Florida.

There is more to the O’Neal story involving attorney Gloria Allred, but it takes us too far off topic.

“There is no question she has made unwise choices in her life and that she has been opportunistic to some degree and quite selfish in her decision making,” her source honestly told me. “Having said that, I have reached the conclusion that every statement she has made regarding her complaint about O’Neal is factual.”

Lopez never intended for the abortion episode to go public. “Vanessa’s principle desire is to put this in the past,” concluded her source. “To that end I know she would appreciate acknowledgement from Redick and his camp for their cruel treatment of her at a vulnerable time and an apology.”

In conclusion, I’ll once again say: Abortion exploits and hurts women.

Radicals push for forced abortion of pregnant 11-yr-old Chilean rape victim

belenIf abortion were legal in the country of Chile, an 11-yr-old girl known as “Belén” would likely still be enduring rape by her mother’s 31-yr-old boyfriend.

Belén was recently discovered to be pregnant (now almost 15 weeks) when visiting her grandmother, who alerted authorities. The truth eventually tumbled out that the bf had been raping Belén since she was seven (some reports nine), threatening to kill her and her little brother if she told.

Belén’s mother “shocked Chileans… when she defended him saying his relationship was consensual,” quoting the Associated Press.

It stands to reason Belén’s mother would have seen to it that she got the abortion were it legal, if the bf hadn’t already taken care of it by threatening who knows what. With the evidence killed, the sexual abuse could have carried on unfettered, as it so often does, because abortion covers up rape and incest.

But that’s not what happened, since Chile is one of five Latin American countries that bans abortion under any circumstances, including rape. The perpetrator was caught. Belén’s baby saved her from further sexual abuse.

Upon hearing Belén’s story, abortion zealots went on the warpath, demanding the girl be given an abortion. What a great opportunity she presented to topple such an archaic religious mandate…

But Belén mangled their meme by saying she wanted her baby. With face obscured, Belén was interviewed on television (photo of her holding doll above right). Quoting ABC:

“It will be like having a doll in my arms,” she said, “but well, I am going to love it very much regardless of what it is, and regardless of whether it comes from that man who hurt me.”

Pro-life President Sebastian Pinera drew ire for praising Belén’s “depth and maturity.” This is because, while girls Belén’s age are apparently mature enough to get abortions, they are not mature enough to choose life. That kind of thinking is  “sick,” you know…

Others are pushing for Belen to be given an abortion against her will. More from the AP:

But experts say the girl’s life is at risk and that she is not prepared to make a decision about her pregnancy.

“At that age the girl doesn’t have a capacity of discernment, not even at age 14 would she have the mental and emotional capacity to discern this,” said Giorgio Agostini, a forensic psychologist who has worked on dozens of child sex abuse cases.

“It’s very likely that she is saying that she wants to have the baby like a living doll. We’ve seen this in other investigations,” Agostini said. “So what the president is saying doesn’t get close to the psychological truth of an 11-year-old-girl. It’s a subjective view that is not based on any scientific reasoning to support it.”

Former president Michelle Bachelet, the frontrunner in the Nov. 17 presidential elections, favours legalizing abortion in cases of rape or risks to the health of the pregnant woman or the child. The pediatrician who spent the past several years heading the United Nations agency for women, also referred to the child’s case in a recent interview.

“She’s a girl who needs to be protected and therefore I think a therapeutic abortion, in this case because of rape, would be in order,” Bachelet told local Radio ADN.

Even though she doesn’t want it.

What kind of psychologist (forensic?) claims a little girl who wants her baby will be psychologically harmed but forcing her to kill her baby will be psychologically helped? What kind of pediatrician claims it is “protecting” a girl to kill her baby? These people are nuts.

Chloe at the pro-abortion blog Feministing was incensed that Belén compared her baby to a doll….

Chloe darkly concluded, “This is what is looks like when anti-choicers get their way. The most vulnerable people get hurt, and then hurt again, and sometimes, they die,” assuming, apparently Belen is going to die, despite the fact she’s getting the best medical care. And ignoring the fact that if Chloe had her way someone else would most certainly die.

Of course, the girl is 11 and not fully mature and speaking in little girl terms. At any rate, I know plenty of older teens and women who were rudely awakened when their baby turned out not to be a doll. It’s a rather universal naive maternal thought to think of dolls as babies and babies as dolls, shock to you, Feministing. It’s WHY little girls like playing with dolls. They instinctively want to be mommies, despite your best efforts to quash such instincts.
