  • Saynsumthn’s Blog shows the unintentional hilarity of some pro-choicers who thought they’d mock pro-life beliefs by writing “Not a chicken” on unfertilized Easter eggs.

UK writer: Pro-lifers should fix misogyny before banning abortion

by Kelli It seems to me that there are better ways to tackle the issue of why some women feel they have to terminate otherwise healthy pregnancies; namely, by targeting the communities in which such misogyny is not just tolerated but encouraged, often with threats of violence. It is unacceptable that leaders of these societies […]

Pro-choicer: Pro-lifers are not motivated by misogyny

war-on-womenby Kelli

I’m a pro-choice individual who actually acknowledges that those who disagree with me are not raging, full blown misogynists. What’s my reasoning you might ask? I’m happy to oblige.

First and foremost, I don’t buy the idea that people who are pro-life hold that position because they seek to control women’s bodies. This is a myth perpetuated by many Democrats as part of the “War on Women.” To attack the pro-life position as a “War on Women” is to completely ignore the much more widely cited reason for being pro-life, which is concern that fetus’s [sic] being aborted are in fact alive and sentient….

  • Slate’s William Saletan refutes the mindset of pro-choice people who think pro-lifers are misogynists who don’t really care about abortion:

The assertion that pro-lifers don’t really care about abortion — that what really motivates them is misogyny, controlling other people’s bodies, and forcing anyone who has sex to have a baby — is morally comforting to a lot of pro-choice people. It reassures us that we’re on side of compassion, justice, and progress, and that there’s no reason to feel ambivalent about this issue. We have nothing to heed or learn from our enemies. Our only challenge is to defeat them.

This is one of those echo-chamber beliefs that won’t survive a reality test.

  • New York Times editorial writer Juliet Lapidos seems to favor a rapist’s right to choose. She believes somehow legislative language – which is clearly designed to punish rapists who coerce their victims into abortion – will ban abortion in cases of rape. I’m not sure if she is willfully ignoring the section of the legislation which reads “with the intent to destroy evidence of the crime” or if in her attempt to parrot pro-abortion blogs, she never actually read the text carefully.

  • Women’s Rights Without Frontiers marked the UN’s International Day of the Girl Child yesterday with the start of their “Save A Girl” campaign to end gendercide in China. WRWF gives “monthly stipends for a year to mothers who are at risk of aborting or abandoning their baby girls. This money helps the mother resist pressure to abort or abandon their baby girls” and also gives to “help support women who are pregnant without a birth permit and are hiding or running to escape forced abortions.”

Pro-woman, pro-life. Abortion does not help women. Real support does.

  • Secular Pro-Life responds to the charge from abortion defender Amanda Marcotte that informed consent laws assume “women are too stupid to understand abortion” and are misogynistic:

Informed consent laws do not operate on the assumption that women are stupid. They do, however, assume that abortion facilities cannot be trusted to provide full and accurate information in the absence of legislation. I’m perfectly fine with that assumption.

Planned Parenthood abortion centers have been caught on tape distributing incredible lies about prenatal development; one counselor even went so far as to claim that an eight-week-old fetus has “no arms, no legs, no heart, no head, no brain.”

In short, women aren’t too stupid to understand abortion – but abortion facilities are too greedy to explain it properly.

Being pro-choice: The “essence of misogyny”

… [I]t is not feminism to support abortion…. [T]o argue that women are unequal without the “right” to abortion is to believe that pregnancy is something that makes women less-than. But pregnancy is something that is both uniquely female and literally as natural as breathing. To believe that abortion is necessary for women’s equality is […]
