Chain of six Northern CA late-term abortion clinics CLOSED

The last three late-term abortion clinics of what was once was a chain of six in Northern California is closing this week, reports Wynette Sills of 40 Days for Life Sacramento.

Choice Medical Group once committed abortions in Concord, Fremont, Sacramento, Salinas, San Francisco, and San Jose.

The Salinas clinic closed a few years ago, Concord followed last year, and San Francisco this past March.

When a member of Wynette’s group called the Sacramento office last week, they got a pleasant surprise. A receptionist told her that clinic and the Fremont and San Jose clinics were all closing this week. “We just didn’t have enough patients,” she said, when asked why the clinics were shutting down.

Northern California has undergone a spate of abortion clinic closings.

Recall Golden Gate Community Health closed five clinics in 2011 after an unsuccessful attempt to recover from being cut loose by Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

Known then as Planned Parenthood Golden Gate, the affiliate was aborted for financial mismanagement. Also recall PPGG created the now infamous “A Super Hero for Choice” video.

PPGG’s territory was divided between the Planned Parenthood Mar Monte and Planned Parenthood Shasta Pacific affiliates.

The downside to this story is that since reorganizing the area, Planned Parenthood has opened six new clinics – one referral (Oakland), three medical abortion (Hayward, Mill Valley, , Ukiah), and two surgical abortion (San Francisco, Santa Rosa).

This, in part or whole, explains why Choice ran its course and went defunct. PP is successfully driving out its abortion competition, although neither of its two surgical abortion mills commit late-term abortion, both stopping at 14 weeks.

The answering machine at the after-hours Choice Group phone number does not give any indication its group is closed. That said, it still provides numbers for the clinics it lists on its website as long defunct.

Penn State, Paterno, and Planned Parenthood

On November 5 police arrested former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky (pictured right) and charged him with 40 counts of child molestation after the release of a shocking grand jury report alleging he had sexually abused eight children over the course of a decade.

Within days Penn State president Graham Spanier and legendary football coach Joe Paterno were fired for overlooking the alleged crimes, while vice president of business and finance Gary Schultz and athletic director Tim Curley, both also forced out, were criminally charged with failing to notify authorities of the alleged crimes and lying to the grand jury.

These crimes are “alleged” because there is no evidence. There is only testimony from former victims and eye-witnesses.

Breaking: Whistleblower alleges Texas Planned Parenthood committed massive Medicaid fraud

A former employee of Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast has filed a whistleblower’s complaint with both the Texas and United States Attorneys General alleging her management engaged in massive Medicaid fraud.

Karen Reynolds, who worked as a “health care assistant” from 1999 to 2009 at the Lufkin, Texas, branch of the affiliate formerly known as Planned Parenthood of Houston and Southeast Texas, has submitted company memos and emails to support her charge that PPGC has engaged in a systemwide scheme to bilk Medicaid, Title XX, and the Women’s Health Program of tens of millions of dollars over the course of at least a decade.

Former Planned Parenthood Golden Gate affiliate closing all 5 clinics in Bay Area

I reported in August 2010 that Planned Parenthood Federation of America was severing ties with Planned Parenthood Golden Gate due to financial mismanagement.

PPGG went on to change its name to Golden Gate Community Health and struggled to surmount its dire straits, in part by shuttering 2 of its 7 clinics in the process.

Now, 4 of the remaining 5 have closed, with the 5th apparently not too far behind.

  • In the Wall Street Journal, William McGurn asks “Are babies better than abortion?”:

So again the question: As a society, does this figure say anything about the choice between a baby and abortion? Even for those who believe the choice for an abortion belongs to a woman alone and ought to be unfettered by city, state or federal law, is there any ratio such a person would say is too high?

New York Times: IRS investigates abortion biz formerly known as Planned Parenthood Golden Gate

It’s a tragic day for Planned Parenthood Golden Gate.

Not only did Mama Planned Parenthood finally follow through with her threat to abort the bothersome affiliate, but the IRS came calling. Reported the New York Times:

New York Times: Planned Parenthood Golden Gate’s “meltdown”

Katharine Mieszkowski’s 3rd Bay Citizen installment investigating the demise of Planned Parenthood Golden Gate (read about previous 2 here and here)  hit the big time August 28 when the New York Times picked it up (click to enlarge)…

Many helpful nuggets of info in the piece, excerpted below. Just wish the NYT had published PPGG’s infamous “Superhero for Choice” cartoon, as the Bay Citizen duplicate article did (although even the mention is a hoot):

Planned Parenthood Golden Gate’s IRS/state filings a mess; former employees squealing

I reported last week that Planned Parenthood Federation of America is cutting ties as of September 3 with Planned Parenthood Golden Gate, which operates 7 clinics in the San Francisco area.

Well, the backstory is getting juicier as reporters investigate federal and state documents (or lack thereof), and former employees begin to leak information and internal documents to the press. The latest Bay Citizen piece provides the most details, while the San Francisco Examiner puts it all in a nutshell:

PPGG has been thrown under the bridge. Past donors included celebrities like feminist Gloria Steinem (pictured right with former PPGG president and CEO Dian Harrison) and Democratic strategist Donna Brazile (pictured on page 2, left with Harrison). But tax documents reveal that for the year ending June 30, 2009 PPGG lost as much as $2.8 million. Interim CEO Therese Wilson admits her group is in a “desperate financial circumstance.”…
