UPDATE, 7/17, 7:15a:
Here is video of Charmaine's testimony yesterday:_______________
You read it here first. Below is the text of the testimony that AUL's President Charmaine Yoest will give any moment now at the Supreme Court confirmation hearings of Judge Sonia Sotomayor in both pdf and Word formats:
It can also be read in full online here.
Well done! Very good research on Sotomayor's positions on abortion and the Constitution.
The six briefs submitted by the PRLDEF in five abortion-related cases during Judge Sotomayor’s service included arguments that were not in line with current Supreme Court jurisprudence. The PRLDEF’s consistent position was that abortion was a fundamental right, with any regulation of abortion subject to strict scrutiny. Notably, the positions taken by the PRLDEF during Judge Sotomayor’s service indicate that Sotomayor’s support of abortion rights is more extreme than that of retiring Justice David Souter.Posted by: crispy at July 16, 2009 6:56 PM
Even if she is confirmed, we can always pray for a conversion. You never know.Posted by: Andy at July 16, 2009 7:51 PM
Thank you for your testimony.
I agree. We should pray for the conversion of all pro-choice public servants.
I suspect Sotomayor was chosen because she had NOT directly presided over abortion cases.
Thus, it took a little time to dig out the PRLDEF connection.
The arguments above are cogent. (But I doubt many listened.)
And YOUNG women (particularly at college age) are given the ROTTEN APPLE labeled "your right to CHOOSE" instead of REAL answers to handling an unplanned pregnancy.Posted by: thinkingabovemypaygrade at July 18, 2009 7:25 PM
