Democrats for Life launches PAC to support Democrats other pro-life groups are opposing

UPDATE, 7/8, 7:38a: The Weekly Standard has a related article in its July 5-12 issue entitled, "Endangered Species: Do pro-life Democrats have a future?"

d4l healthcare support.png7/7, 4:20p: All pro-life groups agreed that the healthcare bill ratified in March allowed public funded abortions - except one, Democrats for Life, which praised its passage....

Susan B. Anthony List vs EMILY's List in mother of all political battles for feminist mantle

historic win pro-life candidates.JPG

Tuesday's primary election results made it a banner day for pro-life female candidates.

Susan B. Anthony List president Marjorie Dannenfelser went so far as to call the wins "the greatest affirmation of our mission in the history of the organization." and "proof that Americans are responding to authentic, pro-life feminism."...

Democrats losing the "God" vote

When you look at Gallup's abortion poll, you see abortion support took a nosedive during the Clinton presidency, then edged up slightly during the Bush years, and is tanking again under Obama's rule.

It appears that on the issue of "choice," Americans in the mushy middle don't like what they consider extremism on either end.

gallup 2010 americans pro-life.gif

That said, I'd rather be on our side of the overall trend than theirs.

But "mushy middle" is an apt term, describing those who don't have a solid core of beliefs.

obama God.jpgThus during the election season we saw Obama's scam to woo Christians and Zionists work with those not firmly grounded. (The Bible calls this "tickling the ears.")

But now they're back, as the aforementioned and following polls indicate, but it's not a phenomenon pro-lifers should take for granted. Part of our strategy must be to cement the fickle pro-life beliefs of the mushy middle. Obama has also given us an opening to attract liberal Jews....

Pro-abort (and fake pro-life) Democrats on the run

mollohan abortion.jpgOn March 21 purported pro-life Democrat Rep. Alan Mollohan of WV ignored the wishes of the pro-life community and voted for the healthcare bill sans the Stupak Amendment.

And yesterday Mollohan lost his bid for a 15th term to his more conservative opponent, state Sen. Mike Oliverio. According to the Wall Street Journal today...

Pro-abort group EMILY's List takes heat for Coakley loss

by Carder

Aftershocks abound from the Scott Brown victory in MA last week. Not to be excluded are EMILY'S List operatives. From The Daily Caller, January 23:

EMILY's List, one of many progressive activist groups recovering from Tuesday's coup.. in MA... has left some Democrats questioning the group's coordination with candidates and its narrow focus on pro-choice women.

EMILY's List Coakley.png[JLS note: Ad on right is from 1 of 3 emails EMILY's List sent to its list to raise $ for Coakley: December 8 and January 9 and 11.]

Just one week before the election, EMILY's List spent $25k on negative ads bolstering Democratic rival Martha Coakley.... It used its 100k-member mailing list to appeal to its supporters, but some say the effort was too little, too late....

Scott Brown wins!

UPDATE, 1/20, 4:05a: Received this note:

Fantastik, Jill! Today is a great day. I prayed that Scott Brown would win and he did. I am following all you pro-lifers, and I wish you all well. Keep up the good work Jill. Best wishes from Denmark.

UPDATE, 1/19, 10p: Statement from Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell:

I want to congratulate Senator-elect Scott Brown on his decisive victory. There's a reason the nation was focused on this race: The voters in MA, like Americans everywhere, have made it abundantly clear where they stand on health care. They don't want this bill and want Washington to listen to them. Americans are investing their hopes in good Republican candidates to reverse a year-long Democrat trend of ignoring the American people on the issues of health care, spending and the growth of government.

scott brown ma.jpgUPDATE, 1/19, 9:30p:Fox is reporting Coakley has called Brown and conceded.

The Boston Globe website has crashed as has and

1/19, 9:20p: I flew in to DC this afternoon and am with my pro-life peeps watching MA election results.

Fox is reporting Brown is at 53%, Coakley at 46%. Fox reports the Associated Press just declared him the winner!

CBR targets voters of five four vulnerable Democrat districts with mobile billboard campaign

CBR, healthcare, Taylor, 3.pngUPDATE, 1/9, 8:50a: The Center for Bio-Ethical Reform has announced it is suspending its plan to send Truth Trucks to pro-life Democrat MS Congressman Gene Taylor's district after receiving this statement from Taylor's office:

[Rep. Taylor] voted for the Stupak Amendment and then voted against the House health care bill. There is absolutely nothing in his 20-year record that would suggest that it is remotely possible that he would vote for any funding for abortions, direct or indirect, and all of his statements since at least last summer have made it very clear that he will not vote for any new health care program even if it does not have any abortion funding.

CBR is instead scooting the MS Truth Tour bus to Kathy Dahlkemper's district in PA, after The Herald on January 7 carried this quote...

Pro-life takeaways from last night

I thought this Twitter post last night by Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards was pretty funny...

Cecile Richards, Michael Bloomberg, New York, abortion, pro-life, Planned Parenthood, Twitter.jpg

As American Life League wrote in a press release entitled, "Planned Parenthood fail: Endorsement 'kiss of death' for Deeds, Scozzafava, Corzine":

What do Dede Scozzafava, Creigh Deeds and Gov. Jon Corzine have in common? All were endorsed by abortion mammoth Planned Parenthood. All 3 candidates were virulent supporters of abortion rights and opponents of human personhood....

Scozzafava, Margaret Sanger Award, Planned Parenthood, abortion, pro-life, New York, Republican.jpg

The humiliating loss by Scozzafava was a particularly hard blow for PP as she was clearly the "poster child" of PP political candidates. The long-time PP supporter, board member, and Sanger Award winner [pictured accepting the award, right] had such a poor showing she was forced to resign from the campaign the week before the election....

But, hey, there's always New York City - with its re-elected pro-abort mayor - where 100,000 abortions are committed annually, or about 10% of all US abortions. I counted at least 30 PPs in the NYC/NJ area....

"Pro-lifers sabotaging pro-life laws?"

Steve Waldman of the liberal Christian website has picked up on this serious situation in the pro-life movement outlined in my WND column this week.

Purist and incremental hardliners have taken theory to reality and directly sabotaged a ban that would have outlawed 97% of all abortions in 1 state, sentencing real - not theoretical - South Dakotan children to their deaths.

What I find most interesting is the purists' unwillingness now to accept responsibility for the SD ban's loss. Several times in the last 2 days, they've e-mailed me or written in the comments section on my WND post that the ban's defeat wasn't their fault, when it was. The ban lost by 5% and John McCain won by 8%.

I also now know SD Right to Life sent mailers to pro-lifers telling them to oppose the ban. I'm trying to get my hands on them.

Why don't purists want credit for their victory?

Steve Waldman.jpg

The new political lay of the land

These numbers come from Americans United for Life:

U.S. House

pelosi change.jpg

There are 435 House members. 218 are needed for a majority.

There are currently 185 sold pro-life members and 32 nominal pro-life members to equal 217, one less than needed for a majority.

Democrats picked up 19 seats (with 8 additional still being contested). Of those, "17 [are] pro-Planned Parenthood representatives," according to PP CEO Cecile Richards.

So pro-lifers suffered a net loss and have moved further away from a majority.

U.S. Senate

Pro-lifers sustained 5 losses.

3 races are still open: Ted Stevens (R-AK), Norm Coleman (R-MN), and Saxby Chambliss (R-GA). All 3 are pro-life.

There are currently 39 pro-life senators. If all 3 of the aforementioned go on to win, there will be 42, meaning we will be filibuster-proof in the Senate.

So the prospect of Congress passing the Freedom of Choice Act is shaky, but pro-lifers must remain on guard for any movement whatsoever. Barack Obama has already promised he welcomes signing it.

There will be no Weekend Question. Pro-lifers should be working this weekend to GOTV, get out the vote. The last 72 hours before an election are the most important of the entire campaign: getting our people to the polls.

gotv 3.gifPro-lifers can help by making phone calls for McCain/Palin. Go here to sign up to call. Commit to making 50. Just do it. The site provides the script.

I mentioned in my previous post about leafletting church parking lots. The nonpartisan flyers are available at that post to download, print, and distribute. We should all do this at our churches tomorrow. Another spot I like to leaflet is school parking lots on Sunday mornings. Lots of small churches meet there.

Get involved this weekend. Drudge reported last night McCain has now taken the lead according to Zogby. We cannot let Barack Obama take office. GET OUT THE PRO-LIFE VOTE!

Another angle on voting pro-life

As Democrats and the mainstream press join forces to attempt to suppress the social conservative vote, consider this John O'Neill colunn in yesterday's Human Events: "Don't repeat mistake of 1974."
