Smith discusses an article suggesting that doctors’ religious beliefs (or lack thereof) can affect ethical decisions surrounding terminally ill patients.While noting the proponents of assisted suicide tend to be atheist or Unitarian, Smith believes “what matters is that [each doctor] accepts human exceptionalism and adheres to the Hippocratic tradition of valuing each individual patient equally, giving each optimal care, and never participating in the intentional taking of human life.”
