Sunday video extra: “O Holy Night” by David Phelps
In conjunction with my Sunday quote today, which gives the fascinating abolitionist history of the Christmas classic, “O Holy Night,” here is the most memorable performance of the beloved hymn I’ve ever seen. Christian tenor David Phelps’ 2002 rendition brings tears and shivers every time. And it includes anti-slavery verse #3. You’ll watch this one more than once…

He’s certainly got a good set of lungs on him. Love that song. That’s a pretty incredible rendition.

This is my favorite Christmas song of all time! It really captures the awesome reverence I imagine the trembling shepherds must have felt, AND shares the gospel message in such beautiful phrasing. Thanks for posting this link Jill!
