- An Australian woman who had an RU-486 abortion has died from complications:
Little is known about the circumstances of her death or even where she died, but she had been treated at a Marie Stopes clinic.A statement from Marie Stopes International confirmed that sepsis caused the death.
- A college student in South Africa has died after having an apparent illegal abortion, even though abortion is legal there:
Ayanda Masondo (20), a second-year student in human resources from Newcastle in KwaZulu-Natal, was found leaning against the door in her room, in the Benjemijn hostel, early yesterday, Beeld newspaper reported today.Paramedics were called, but they pronounced her dead at the scene.
Brixton police station spokesperson Constable Michael Kgatle said there would be a judicial inquiry into Masondo’s death.
“At this stage an illegal abortion would appear to be the reason for her death. There was a lot of blood at the scene,” Kgatle said.
- USA Today is covering California’s stem cell agency’s future and notes the lack of return on promises:
So far, CIRM has spent some $1.3 billion on infrastructure and research. At the current pace, it will earmark the last grants in 2016 or 2017. Since most are multi-year awards, it is expected to stay in business until 2021.So what have Californians received for their money so far?
The most visible investment is the opening of sleek buildings and gleaming labs at a dozen private and public universities built with matching funds. Two years ago, Stanford University unveiled the nation’s largest space dedicated to stem cell research — 200,000 square feet that can hold 550 researchers.
There are no cures yet in the pipeline and CIRM has shifted focus, channeling money to projects with the most promise of yielding near-term results. Most of the money early on was funneled toward learning the basics and recruiting scientists.

Personally, I’m just happy abortion has been made safe by virtue of being legal. Oh wait…

So very, very safe.
Women and babies are as safe as kittens.
Women dying is safe, legal abortions? Nonsense.

Course, the child dies pretty much every time. Not so safe for them.

Silly Courtnay.
It is only a child if you believe it to be………………la la la la.

So very quiet on this thread.
Any proaborts care to share their thoughts about women that die along with their children during “safe” abortions????
Didn’t think so.

Carla, I’m sure proaborts” think it’s sad when a woman dies during an abortion. People die at the dentist too. That’s also sad.

Sad but keep fighting for a woman’s “right to choose” to kill.

I’ve never heard of anyone dying at the Dentist. That’s a bunch of baloney.
ABORTION IS NOT HEALTH CARE!

Hal, people go to the dentist for health care. Women go to the abortionist to kill their chuild. Qualitatively, quantitatively, entirely different.
Big bucket of duh.

I have NEVER heard of someone dying at the dentist. I know pro-abortion types like to say that having an abortion is like having a tooth pulled but really…

google “dental deaths” Liz and Sydney. It happens.

Well the incidence rate of death from dental visits is not so similar to abortion deaths. Most folks go to the dentist many many times in their lives whereas most women never have abortions. Abortion deaths are also generally among those in the best health, not those in the general population and none are among older people, by definition.
So abortion deaths and those from dentistry are very different in kind.

Hippie, that may be true in a general sense. I was just saying, people die during all kinds of medical procedures (and other things as well). I haven’t heard that the mortality rate for women getting abortions is unusually high (I know, I know, the baby dies every time). Some people upthread “have NEVER heard of someone dying at the dentist,” turns out they just were uninformed. I have now informed them. You’re welcome.
If a doctor performing an abortion is negligent in any way, I’d be the first to support a lawsuit. If a doctor performing an abortion is criminally negligent, I’d be the first to support a criminal charge.
My main point was just to respond to Carla to point out that even those of us who are evil pro choices are not happy when a woman dies during a “safe” abortion. But, she knew that.

I was looking for more than “sadness” or “not happy” Hal. But you knew that.

Let’s stay on topic shall we?
I am not talking about the denist or heart surgery or hangnails am I?
Women DIE and are horribly maimed from “safe” abortions!!
You see it here everyday Hal and you know it!
Dead women and dead babies are just par for the course though right? The road to freedom and empowerment through abortion is stacked with their bodies and runs with their blood.

Carla, I can’t get outraged over the number of women who die from “safe abortions” unless I know more. I don’t see it here “everyday.” There have been cases, sure. One or two per year? 10 per year? I have no idea. According to a quick check at a pro life site:
“How many women really die from “safe, legal abortions”? No one knows.”
http://www.pregnantpause.org/safe/deaths.htm
Any death is one too many. But if the rate is low, like dental visits, I think you need to argue your main points (abortion hurts women and kills babies) than argue that abortion is killing women. Just a thought.

Hi Hal,
Just a thought.
I think you need Jesus.

Every single one of these women was someone’s daughter, sister, friend……
Women deserve better than abortion.

Hi Carla
I don’t think I need Jesus. In fact, I’m quite sure.
Went to that site. A large proportion of those deaths were pre-1973. The ones since then sure look like a lot of bad doctors. So, should we get better professionals to do abortions or should we outlaw the practice?

1+1=2
There is a reason crappy doctors are the ones who tend to “specialize” in abortion.
