Pro-life news brief 8-28-12

- There really must be something in the records of Planned Parenthood in Kansas as they’ve asked for the records back. We know it’s not patient privacy Planned Parenthood is concerned with, it’s covering up their willingness to not report statutory rape.
- In the New Yorker, Jeffrey Toobin is disappointed that the President and the Democratic party have focused so much on the hard cases of abortion and failed to make an argument for why abortion should be generally available:
But as framed by Democrats and the President, the current debate about abortion—centered as it is around rape victims and the health exception — put women in the position of supplicants, seeking permission to end their pregnancies. Most people, fortunately, think there are circumstances where that permission should be granted. But true freedom is not freedom to ask permission — it’s freedom to make a decision. That’s what pro-choice really means, and it would be healthy for abortion-rights supporters to say so clearly and often.
- Jeff Jacoby notes something that anyone with any political sense knows but is often hidden by the media – both major parties have positions on abortion which aren’t middle of the road:
The 2012 platform, in language recycled from 2008, vows to “oppose any and all efforts to weaken or undermine” the availability of abortion. While solid majorities of Democrats back some limitations on abortion – 59 percent would ban partial-birth abortions, for example, and 60 percent endorse a mandatory waiting period – the official position of their party is that even common-sense restrictions are unthinkable.
In 2000, the Democratic platform said the party’s goal was “to make abortion less necessary and more rare.” The 2004 platform declared, “Abortion should be safe, legal, and rare.” But even calling for abortion to be “rare” is now too much for the Democrats’ platform committee, which deleted the word in 2008. Perhaps it’s no coincidence that Nancy Keenan [pictured above left], the president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, is a committee member.
- The Telegraph has a piece on international couples coming to the U.S. and paying big bucks for sex-selection IVF. Notice the dehumanization in the article where the author claims “eggs” go through pre-implantation genetic diagnosis:
He said women first attended Londonclinics which were affiliated with Fertility Institutes, where they were given drugs to stimulate egg production, before flying to the US for the rest of the treatment.Eggs are then collected, fertilised in the test tube, and then screened for genetic abnormalities and gender using a now well established technique called pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD)….
He admitted clients from some countries were almost exclusively interested in boys. Demand from China – currently under pressure to revoke its controversial one child policy – was 98 per cent for boys, he said, while from India it was 97 per cent.

I think gender selection that doesn’t involve abortion is awesome. I wouldn’t go through IVF unless I were infertile, but I would definitely utilize microsort(which only involves IUI). I think I’m more of the type of person who’d be better with daughters, and I hope to have three. However, it the procedure didn’t work I’d still be ok with having a boy.
As I’ve said before, many problem pregnancies wouldn’t have happened in the first place if the statutory rape laws were strictly enforced. I’ve read that MOST teen girls who are pregnant were impregnated by adult men — who were breaking the law by engaging in sex with the minor girls. A campaign to take these laws seriously and strictly enforce them might save many young ladies — and their families — tremendous grief.
It seems to me that these laws are widely disregarded. Indeed, in the case of mentally retarded young ladies, they have often been treated as a kind of “sexual resource” by both teen boys and adult men. This is why I was delighted by the convictions in the infamous Glen Ridge rape case. It was a signal to young men that such women are not a sexual resource but human beings.
Ensuring the safety of young women and their bodily integrity might go a long way to helping take the “crisis” out of pregnancy!!!!!!!
MSNBC cut away from RNC coverage whenever a minority speaker was at the podium, but they scream that GOP excludes minorities. Reminds me of how Dems ignore the mountain of science that proves life begins at fertilization, then scream that prolifers are misogynists.

(Denise) Should you shrink away from the charge of “misogyny”? After all, misogyny has something of a distinguished tradition. Schopenhauer and Strindberg were among the famous and accomplished misogynists. There have been many well-known people — including some who were women themselves — with a special dislike for the female gender.
At one point in my life, I called myself a “misogynist.” Although I no longer embrace this term, the majority of the relatively few friends I have are men.
Ken, you crack me up!
Can I repost to a friend?
Denise Nob — Healthcare providers are oftne the first ones to become aware of statutory rape and abuse.
The first step in enforcement of statutory rape laws and protection of minors from abuse is to enforce penalties on healthcare providers who fail to promptly report their knowledge of abuse. The abortion industry stubbornly resists this, as has been clearly shown in undercover videos.
Meanwhile — you are correct: We must do all that we can to educate young men and women about their own dignity, and that women are not meant to be used as toys for men. A few generations ago, everyone understood this – This can be taught and learned again.

(Denise) I’m aware of those undercover “stings” in which people appeared willing to cover up the crime of statutory rape. This is aiding and abetting the crime! Moreover, it is aiding and abetting a crime that not only harms individual minor girls but has repercussions harmful to society as a whole. All health care providers should know their jobs are on the line if they fail to report these crimes!
Nicole, the problem with gender-selection ivf (among other things) is the humans of the wrong gender are destroyed. It’s not that they only make males or females, but that after males *and* females have been made they are screened and the incorrect gender ones are destroyed. If they could screen the sperm and only initially make one gender i’d have less of a problem with it (I have some issues with IVF regardless), but that’s not how it’s done routinely and, to my knowledge, they do not yet possess the ability to sort sperm via gender contribution while keeping the sperm viable.
The IUI version just screens sperm, I think, Jespren. I don’t have any problem with that, as long as no embryo is destroyed.
Methinks Jeffrey Toobin has a vested interest in pro-aborts having a better argument. It might have something to do with the child he had out of wedlock with Jeff Greenfield’s daughter. I’m sure that didn’t please his wife very much.
We’ve got to prevent PROBLEM PREGNANCIES. Abortion will automatically decrease. So will other tragedies like the one I wrote about here http://www.trutv.com/library/crime/blog/article/kill-my-parents-the-story-of-marlene-olive/index.html
The above tragedy began when a child asked a question: “Daddy, what does the word ‘adoption’ mean?”
He gave her the standard answer.
And she burst into tears.
