WashPo notes outgoing Komen CEO’s large salary, ignores Planned Parenthood CEO’s larger salary
Susan G. Komen for the Cure’s founder and CEO is stepping down.
Nancy Brinker is joined on her fall on the sword by her president and two board members, all denying the Planned Parenthood debacle had anything to do with it.
It didn’t have to be this way. They could have stood strong in their decision to defund the United States’ largest abortion provider, but they couldn’t handle the heat.
Since then no one has been happy. While MSM consistently portrays Komen’s loss of revenue as a show of displeasure by abortion proponents, it is just as likely disappointed and previously unaware pro-lifers are now withholding donations.
I don’t feel one ounce of sympathy for Brinker. She, as a friend of Planned Parenthood, got Komen into its mess. In 1996 Planned Parenthood of North Texas gave her the Gertrude Shelburne Humanitarian Award, and as recently as 2011 Komen sat on that affiliate’s advisory council. (MSM never mentions this part of Brinker’s bio, because it doesn’t fit their portrayal of Brinker as a Republican hack.)
Brinker learned too late Planned Parenthood is as friendly as a scorpion, and her beloved organization paid dearly for her miscalculation. Ultimately, so did she.
Meanwhile, a Washington Post op ed on Brinker’s demise, “Nancy Brinker’s Komen shakeup too little and way too late,” had nary a contrary word to say about Planned Parenthood or its CEO while noting:
Brinker’s own reputation was on the line as her $417,000 salary and the top executive’s first-class air travel became part of the debate about whether the organization had strayed from its mission.
The link goes back to a February 2012 WashPo hit piece on Brinker, noting also that Komen “paid 50 top executive more than $100,000 each” in 2010.
Interesting, but not surprising, is the media’s complete disinterest in the salary of Planned Parenthood’s CEO, Cecile Richards, and her top execs.
Like Komen, PP is also a nonprofit, and ss Komen’s nemesis, PP would seem an obvious target for a compensation comparison. WashPo came so close but averted its eyes:
Komen operations have been under intense scrutiny since last week when a plan to stop giving grants to Planned Parenthood triggered blistering criticism of Komen’s leadership.
But no scrutiny of Planned Parenthood, the recipient of Komen’s grant. Wouldn’t it have made sense to find out whether PP was worthy? Liberal ideology, of course, says no. I doubt journalists even considered the thought.
Learning this information took me all of five minutes. According to Planned Parenthood’s 2010 IRS Form 990, Cecile Richards earned a total of $420,153 at Planned Parenthood Federation of America, a few grand more than Brinker.
PPFA’s other top execs all made between $250-$325k, a couple hundred thousand more than Komen’s…
The February WashPo piece also noted:
Brinker, who also serves on Komen’s board of directors, traveled first class on airlines with the explicit permission of the board she chairs.
Just a hunch, but I don’t think Richards flies coach either.

Keep tagging PPH Action page and you’ll keep hearing from us. Hey Jill, how about all those “research funds” Brinker used to hire her friends and then give them tens of thousands of dollars in severance after a few months of service? Or her yacht, multimillion dollar art collection, her compound in Florida and all the first class airline tickets for her, her husband and her son. And what about her cozy relationship to Ari Schiever, GWBS former press sect, who got 50k of Komen money to “vet and headhunt” Karen Handel? What about the low proportion of donation dollars going to actual RESEARCH and the subsequent poor rating Komen received from charitable watchdog orgs?? Seems like, as usual, you left out all the stuff that MIGHT make Komen seem less than angelic.
And let us not forget, they tried to defund PPH for being under investigation but Handel and Brinker turned a complete blind eye to defunding Penn State…who was also in the middle of a little investigation we may all remember?? A charity can’t make rules for one and then break them for another. And THAT is why Handel resigned. She got caught allowing her personal and political agenda cause a glaring error. PPH investigation-no funding …. Penn state investigation-shhhh! Maybe they won’t notice our complete duplicity.
EXcellent article! Typo in this sentence (“ss”): “Like Komen, PP is also a nonprofit, and ss Komen’s nemesis, PP would seem an obvious target for a compensation comparison.”
According to Planned Parenthood’s 2010 IRS Form 990, Cecile Richards earned a total of $420,153 at Planned Parenthood Federation of America, a few grand more than Brinker.

Unlike the Komen execs, most of pp’s funds come from screwing us, the american taxpayer, and from killling pre-natal children and the occasional pregnant female and what they can extort from the unwary souls who have the mis-fortune to encounter pp’s madams, pimps and whores.
Kathi, I think from reading Jill’s article I don’t really see her sticking up for Komen, after all, they for the most part have been happy to donate to Planned Parenthood. I’m no fan at all of Brinker anyway, but if she was so obviously evil though, why did one of your affiliates keep her on their advisory board and give her an award? Why wait to bring all of this up until after she was going to cut funding? If you are proud to receive their money and so willing to influence their decisions, why did you not do this years ago and let them continue to be apparently mismanaged so obviously for years?
Cecile, you didn’t do that on your own. Somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive amid innocents’ blood. Somebody invested in forceps and currettes. If you’ve got an abortuary — you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen. Planned Parenthood didn’t get funded on its own. Government investment ensured that you could make money off abortions…
Kathi, did you get your abortion at a PP, or was it an independent doctor’s office? You said you are a nurse…are you currently earning your living off of other people killing their children?
Keep tagging PPH Action page and you’ll keep hearing from us.
Promises, promises. That is what they all say but then they type and run and never answer pointed questions like these.
Is that child in utero alive?
Is that child in utero a human being?
If the answer is no to the above questions WHAT IS SHE?
If the answer is no to the above questions please link to the truth. Cite your sources!! I want Biology 101 right here, right now.
SMACK DOWN Kathi!!
It’s a FETUS, Carla. A FETUS. Duh.
Ps–still waiting for the real abortion pictures.
How many mammograms does PP do in a year? Oh, yeah, NONE. They don’t even own the equipment.
Hey Ken my brother!!
I did moderate your comment.
The Komen fiasco demonstrated that Planned Parenthood is a bully; that 26 US Senators are tools of Planned Parenthood, including my Michigan’s Senator Debbie Stabenow.
While doing some de-cluttering of my house, I found an old article by Randall Terry. He advised pro-lifers to decline to sign petitions (on-line or otherwise) and focus on sending our elected representatives a strong message that we will do whatever is necessary to vote out politicians who shill for Planned Parenthood.
So, I will devote every spare moment between now and November to either educating my neighbors about how Planned Parenthood runs interference for negligent abortion doctors who run unsanitary, unsafe facilities – or preparing and copying the materials to leave with them as reading materials. And I will inform these neighbors how their representative voted.
I encourage other pro-lifers to do the same; and to do it with a warm smile.
barb,
don’t forget covering for pedophiles.
“While doing some de-cluttering of my house, I found an old article by Randall Terry.”
You mean the domestic terrorist Randall Terry who palled around with the murderer of an abortion doctor? Yeah, he’s really credible.
“don’t forget covering for pedophiles.”
ROFLMAO – like the Catholic Church and their bishops, one of whom is awaiting trial in Kansas City? And meanwhile, there don’t seem to have been any charges of “covering up for pedophiles” leveled at Planned Parenthood by states attorneys general despite Lila Rose’s sting videos.
CC,
I’m sorry, but I don’t believe I’ve ever held up Catholicism as my all-time favoritest thing in the world. I was talking about PP, who actually DID get caught attempting to cover up for pedophiles in the sting videos. Thanks for highlighting the miscarriage of justice that is them getting out of facing any charges or an investigation though. Too bad that because of corruption, sometimes victims have to fight such battles on their own:

Carla,
My heroine,
Thanks.
I am sure whatever you did was an improvement.
Ps 127:3-5 3 Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. [Deut 28:4.]
4 As arrows are in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one’s youth.
5 Happy, blessed, and fortunate is the man whose quiver is filled with them! They will not be put to shame when they speak with their adversaries [in gatherings] at the [city’s] gate. AMP
My wife and I became grandparents for the first time on Sunday morning.
The LORD was pleased to gift our #3 daughter Leah and her husband Jonathan with a beautiful little baby girl whom they have named Tigerlily Etsuko.
Jonathan and Leah were gracious enough to include our #2 daughter Hannah in the birthing experience.
Hannah said during the labor Leah Rachel was continually thanking the LORD for giving her Tigerlily.
The midwife got there just in time to pray for Leah and Tigerlily and then the ‘pushing’ commenced. Hannah said Leah and the midwife were worshipping the LORD together in music and song.
Contractions began around 1am and Tigerlily made her glorious debut shortly afer 5am.
That’s right, 4 hours total.
7 lbs and 21 inches of healthy and whole baby girl who is not at all reticent about voicing her opinion.
Hannah said she sobbed for joy at the ‘moment’ of birth.
One instant Tigerlily was ‘crowning’ and the next instant she was fully released.
What a great birthday gift from the LORD for Hannah who had just celebrated the anniversary of her birth just 3 days before.
Mona and I are so grateful that the LORD has given us such wonderful daughters and son.
We look forward with great expectation to many more such wonderful blessings from the ONE LORD and SAVIOR, JESUS.
“As for Me, this is My covenant or league
with Jonathan and Leah and Tigerlily,
says the Lord: My Spirit, Who is upon you
[and Who writes the law of God inwardly
on your heart], and My words which I have
put in your mouth shall not depart out of
your mouth, or out of the mouths of your
[true, spiritual] children, or out of the
mouths of your children’s children, says the
Lord, from henceforth and forever.”
Isaiah 59:21
As it is spoken and written, so shall it be. The WORD of the LORD shall not return to HIM void, but it shall accomplish all that HE has purposed.
Congratulations Ken or I should say “Grandpa”. What a great blessing. Sounds like your daughter had a awesome super-“natural” birth. Enjoy your newborn granddaughter. Sounds like she is healthy and strong. What a blessing and a miracle. Was there a special reason they named her Tigerlily?
PL,
You would have to know Jonathan and Leah to begin to understand.
Bottom line: Jonathan and Leah are both free spirits and non-traditionalists. They both understand the significance of a ‘name’. It was not a decision they made lightly.
They both liked the name Tigerlily.
Etsuko is Japanese and it has meaning something like ‘joyful child’.
Tigerlily’s great grand mother and great grandfather and her grandmother [my wife Mona] are ethnically Japanese and their nationality is Canadian.
Mona’s father survived a suicide/murder attempt by his mother and a stint in Russian POW camp at the end of WWII.
My father survived the landing on Omaha beach at the invasion of Normandy on DDay.
Jonathan’s biological mother tried to abort him, but when he survived the attempt on his life, she gave him up for adoption.
I am not the shaprest knife in the drawer, but I perceive something providential
about our combined families and our children.
There are generational blessings and there are generational curses.
The curses can be broken, but the blessings are yea and amen forever.
I recognize and receive and honor the generational blessings and I will do my best to renounce and break the curses as the LORD gives grace to do it.
Even if the names which Jonathan and Leah chose were ‘wrong’, I am confident the GOD who gives Tigerlily life and breath would give her a ‘new name’ of HIS choosing.
Irene, the nurse who cared for Tigerlily and Leah during their hospital stay is from Ghana in Africa. She and her husband are both Christians and he is a pastor. What a wonderful blessing to have so many different ethnicities and nationalities represented in the body of Christ at the birth on one child.
The tapesty is woven so tightly and the shades and patterns are so complex that it is impossilbe to take it all in in a single viewing.
The ONE who throws the shuttle is the MASTER WEAVER.
Thank you for your kind words of congratulation.
Yay Grandpa Ken! Congrats to you and your family and welcome to Baby Tigerlily!
Good riddance, Komen Foundation. The pro-choicers hate you because for just three days you considered withholding funding from a giant abortion mill, and pro-lifers hate you because you actually gave the abortionists money for many years.
Does Planned Parenthood realize how stupid it looks for continuing to attack Komen? If Komen shuts down for lack of support, PP won’t get the few hundred thousand dollars it was shrieking about. And nothing will go to the breast cancer cause — not that PP was really ever interested in that.
kenthegrandbirther,
Mazel tov! My suggestion for the names of Tigerlily’s possible brother and sister: Peter Pan and Wendy. :)
My middle brother named his second daughter Iris.
Those of you who are my facebook friends, feel free to laugh. :P
Congrats, ken. The whole event sounds like a beautiful broad canvas of only the finest hues. Lovely.
HA! HA! Um, I mean, (chuckle). :)
Jill, the comment that having PP for a friend is like having a scorpion for a friend is the perfect comparison — the best I’ve heard — and I’ve heard hundreds! Keep up the good work and God bless you!
Right. Like I’m going to come on HERE and reveal where I work/worked during my nursing career?!? Are you insane?? Look, I understand that 99.9 percent of antichoice activists are NOT extremists with guns and ammo, ready to come to my home and blow my head off. But all it takes is ONE nut like the pig who killed Dr. Tiller or that LOVELY woman who opens a new Facebook page every week, posting the photos of abortion clinic workers, doctors, their homes, their children and even the locations of where their spouses work. The only think I will say is I worked in ALL fields of nursing, from psych to OBGYN to rehab. And I have no problems with abortion procedure assistance.
If you look CAREFULLY, PPH is NOT still “beating up Komen” in ANY way. Actually, Cecile Richards posted a very innocuous comment the day Brinker stepped down. All she said was that two women who have contributed enormously to breast cancer awareness, we’re leaving the organizations top management. Period. She didn’t take any swipes or say much of anything really. But I’m SO curious as to why I repeatedly see the phrase calling us “bullies”? My interpretation of bullying is using physical power to force someone into a submissive position. Why when we prochoice protesters use our boycotting leverage or our voices, to speak out against what we don’t like…are we called “bullies”? Yet, when a protester stands outside a clinic and screams “murderer” or “baby killer” at PPH patients, that is called, by you, as “clinic protesting”? You don’t even KNOW why that woman is even walking INTO a PPH!! She could be going for prenatal care, birth control, or like that poop couple in Florida last year, a medical abortion of a dead fetus…a fetus the couple wanted and was heartbroken to lose. Her husband taped women with his cell phones, who started screaming “murdere” at them as they got out of their car?!? That’s NOT bullying?? That’s okay??
And please, do your research lest you sound ignorant. Gynecologists and obstetricians don’t perform mammograms in their offices. They send you to a RADIOLOGIST. PPH does the exact same thing. The difference being, if you are low income, they can provide payment vouchers for needed mammography services. And….my local PPH chapter, like those in quite a few cities, has a mammogram van that comes to clinics on a rotating basis. These are the same type of portable radiological units that are used by the military, by hospitals for remote locations and even for health fairs. I have had two mammos done at my local PPH in the mammo-van. Not being knowledgeable of FACTS hurts your cause and makes you look uninformed.
And Carla, I’ll be MORE than happy to answer your questions. And if you want to feel my lack of an immediate reply is a “smack down”… Go for it. I was on a little thing people do called a vacation. I don’t typically carry my iPad into the ocean waves?!?
If you have bothered to read ANY of my posts or knew of any of my prochoice published writings, you would know that I have and don’t deny a fetus is a living thing. To do so would be complete ignorance. But to me, an in utero fetus does NOT trump my bodily autonomy if it’s unwanted. Since it is nonsentient and dependent on my physical being to survive, then my rights to privacy, according to our Constitution, give me the right to abort it or gestate it. And, I have repeatedly said, if it gives you a moral warm and fuzzy to call it murder, a baby, a child…whatever….that is your CHOICE. I don’t consider it murder when I remove ANYTHING from my body that is there without my consent. That would include a tumor, a broken molar, a cancerous mole or a fetus.
And no, I did not receive my abortion via PPH. I went to a private clinic due to additional medical issues I had that were contributory to my decision to abort. But, I have been a clinic volunteer and PPH supporter. HOW is that even relevant?? Or are you just being nosy, xalisae??
BTW, you can thank us “big mouth bullies” over at PPH Action for exposing to you what we’ve known for years about the Komen Group. Pro or antichoice, NO ONE should support a woman’s organization that hires friends to pay them huge severances, doesn’t reveal full disclosure of expenditures and plays fast and loose with charity money. PPH gets investigated over and over and over again…and it always seems to die in the water. Yet people persist that just the accusation is proof of guilt. Do YOU approve of Lila Rose sending undercover women into clinics and having them waste staff time and resources, trying to “catch” PPH doing something illegal? How much money and time did she WASTE trying to pull this gender selection abortion thing?? Only to have the wind knocked out of her sails. Not only is it illegal to deny a woman an abortion formANY stated reason (except in FLA and MT based on gender), they knew what she was doing and revealed it before she tried to release videos. Personally, I wish she could be caught and charged with fraud and misuse of government/charitable funds for trying to “play” with PPH.
It’s pretty STUPID for Kathleen to claim a fetus is there without her “consent.” Having SEX IS YOUR CONSENT. What do you think sex DOES? Sends sperm into a woman’s body with the sole purpose of finding an egg and causing a pregnancy. Do you need a lesson in human biology? Acting surprised that sex results in pregnancy and saying a resulting child is there without your “consent” makes you sound like the biggest idiot EVER.
