Clinic escort: Abortion is “about my fundamental right to life”
I think we have to retake the morality of the issue, back from the right-wing….
The abortion rate doesn’t go down when you make it illegal, women just die…. I don’t apologize when I say it, It [abortion] should be a part of basic healthcare.
We have to take back the morality of the issue, the idea that it isn’t just about my controlling my body but it’s really just about my fundamental right to life, and the same options as everyone around me.

No matter how you spin it, elective abortion is the direct and deliberate destruction of unborn human life. As such, it is immoral. The mother’s fundamental right to life is no greater than anyone else’s right to life including her unborn child’s. “And the same options as everyone else around me”? And who else is around you? Your unborn child is of course.
The premise that women die when abortion is made illegal is false. When other countries (e.g. Chile, Poland) have turned back from abortion on demand, there has not been a death spike from illegal abortions.
Women don’t gain equality or empowerment by destroying another human life, their off-spring.
“When we consider that women are treated as property, it is degrading to women that we should treat our children as property to be disposed of as we see fit.” – Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Letter to Julia Ward Howe, October 16, 1873, in the Howe diary at Harvard University Library
I think Katie needs to do some research. The abortion rate DOES go down when abortion is restricted or made completely illegal.
Murdering women might die?
Yeah… that’s a shame.
Katie – you can’t take morality back.
Morality is not mutable.
Making such a statement is a prima facie admission what you are doing (in promoting abortion) is inherently immoral.
If you were to swap places with a child in the womb of an aborting mother, you’d see the absurdity of your statement. Your fundamental “right to life” is entirely at the mercy of everyone else.
What you claim for yourself you want to deny to others based on their size, level of development, environment and degree of dependency.
That doesn’t make you morally right – it makes you a hypocrite.
Dear Michael,
Please explain your comment.
The doublespeak is strong in this one.
“retake the morality of the issue”….
What ??? The “issue” IS morality. The morality of NOT destroying human life in its most vulnerable state.
Just because you throw in the word “fundamental” doesn’t make your argument valid, Ms. Klabusich.
But, you’re right about one thing – it ISN’T about your controlling YOUR body. (your pre-born child is NOT YOUR body).
Well this one’s full of gold nuggets.
I think we have to retake the morality of the issue back from the right-wing….
Re-take the morality? What the what does that even mean? You guys have pretty much never made it about morality. And aren’t you guys mostly about situational morality? Yeah, okay. Next…
The abortion rate doesn’t go down when you make it illegal, women just die….
Um. This is sad but women die all the time from all kinds of things. (sidenote to Michael: if you comment meant what I think it did, that is a horrible, nasty sentiment)
It [abortion] should be a part of basic healthcare.
Abortion isn’t healthcare, hon. It’s intentionally robbing the life of the unborn. Which is murder.
We have to take back the morality of the issue, the idea that it isn’t just about my controlling my body but it’s really just about my fundamental right to life, and the same options as everyone around me.
Awww you were sooooo close. It *is* about the fundamental right to life – but for everybody, even your baby. But go on, talk about right to life. It’s fun to watch you make our arguments for us. And you want the same options as everyone around you?? All right, why don’t we demand free prostate exams for women!?!? SAME OPTIONS!!!!!
In my opinion, the “left,” or “progressives,” could totally steal this moral issue from the Right. I wish this would happen.
All of us progressives could simply repeat our ideal that we are the defenders of the defenseless, the voice of the voiceless, believers in the potential of all members of society no matter how humble the beginnings, and claim not-yet-born humans as yet another category of victim requiring us with political power to stick up for them, until the day and time when they can stick up for themselves.
The conservatives and republicans are so inconsistent and divided on this issue, it could be snatched with ease.
“Re-take the morality? What the what does that even mean?” – it means that allowing opponents to claim that abortion is immoral is wrong, shouldn’t have been allowed to happen and needs to be remedied.
“Um. This is sad but women die all the time from all kinds of things” – better make them illegal too then huh. Should we start with childbirth or driving?
“Abortion isn’t healthcare, hon” – indeed it is. It is preventative healthcare.
“It *is* about the fundamental right to life – but for everybody, even your baby” – by putting the fetus first you reduce womens right to life.
“All of us progressives…” – you consider yourself progressive?!?
“The conservatives and republicans are so inconsistent and divided on this issue, it could be snatched with ease” – by who? The democrats?
” by putting the fetus first you reduce womens right to life.”
The fetus isn’t first. He or she is just equal. In the event of a true clash in the two people’s right to life (which is rare in abortion situations), the woman’s right actually supersedes. She can take steps to save her own life even if it results in the death of the fetus. Even the dreaded Catholics believe that.
