Muslims offended by Taliban/abortion law comparison
The ad ran in Sunday’s paper in the Knoxville News Sentinel and the Times Free Press in Chattanooga. It’s a cartoon of a man in a turban standing over top a woman with his foot pinning her down.
In the man’s folded arms is a rolled paper saying ‘Amendment #1’, which is a proposed legislation that would allow state lawmakers to make more laws concerning abortion. The ad calls the amendment the Tennessee Taliban Amendment, and says voting no will keep Tennessee legislators from controlling women.
Muslims across the state are furious about the depiction….
The group who purchased the ad is called the Tennesseans for Preservation of Personal Privacy. A lawyer for the group said that they never intended to offend anyone with the ad campaign.
“The idea that this was intended in any way to insult the Muslim community, or that it would have that effect, it wasn’t expected, and certainly never was intended,” attorney Michel Kaplan said.

Disgusting. Of course, as a pro-life woman, I take offense too. I just hope that this tone-deaf ad shows who the real extremists are.

TN is the third state in the nation for out of state abortions. Planned Parenthood and ACLU teamed up in 2000 to sue our state and take away the ability to put any reasonable restrictions around abortions. Therefore, there is no informed consent, waiting periods and no requirement that abortion facilities be inspected and regulated as other same day surgery centers. The abortion industry holds TN as an example of how you can get abortion on demand with no restrictions at any stage of the pregnancy even in the bible belt. They did it through judicial activism.
The head of the local ACLU calls this her crowning achievement.

A full-page ad ran sans cartoon in every major paper in TN. Amendment 1 is more than legislation, it is a ballot initiative that voters get to approve on Nov. 4th, 2014. Thanks for bringing awareness to this absurd cartoon, but also help tell TN voters to vote yes on amendment 1!

It seems like a counter-strategy, education campaign directed at Tennessee parents is what we need.

Pro-aborts kill more people per day than the Taliban did on 9-11, if they want to make such comparisons.

“We didn’t mean to offend anyone!” lol that’s funny, guys.
Well the picture isn’t even accurate – if the guy had a PP sticker on, sure. Abortion is what’s subjugating women, not the other way around.

Offending Muslims, Jews, Sikhs, Wiccans, Zoroastrians, etc. Is taboo but Christians are fair game, I guess.

Hmm, “personal privacy”, that just might be my new favourite euphemism for abortion.

Technically, wasn’t the murdering on 9-11 done by Al-Qaeda, not the Taliban?

JDC, right? As a mostly libertarian, I’m all for privacy… until what you do in private hurts another person.
I’m sure murderers and rapists want to do their nasty business in private too. Abusers thrive on privacy. But I don’t think that child abusers should get to enjoy “personal privacy” because what they do behind closed doors is evil, pure and simple.
And likewise, when you abort a person in private, well, sorry honey but you don’t get that luxury. Yeah, the baby resides in one of your organs for a while, but a child lives in an abuser’s house for a while. You cannot hurt or kill other people just because they happen to share the same space as you.

JDC, not to hijack the thread, but Al Qaeda was based in Afghanistan at the behest of the Taliban, so you could say that the Taliban are responsible for 9-11 in the same way people who support abortion allow the abortionists to kill the unborn. I don’t go for these sorts of comparisons, but the hard-core Left loves it, pick an enemy and associate everyone else with the enemy. In Michigan they complain about things by saying we’re going to turn the state into “Michissippi.” They are mean people, mean in temperament and mean in the value of their intellectual discourse.

If abortion is such a private matter, why should public monies pay for them?

Isn’t this a Godwin award?
Hitler, Taliban, etc.

I notice that the sponsors of the amendment don’t seem to be complaining about the comparison.
Given that Amendment 1 explicitly states that it will empower Tennessee legislature to, if they so choose, outlaw an abortion performed to save a woman’s life, it’s nice to see abortion opponents own their religious extremism for once.
