Actress Countess Vaughn opens up about her abortion
by Carder
I had an unwanted pregnancy. I had just started my TV show, I knew that in black Hollywood a girl having a baby, they’d get rid of you. I had to do something about it. I had to make a decision to get rid of a child for my career…
I knew from the jump if I let any of them know what was going on, they would have cancelled my show.
~ Actress Countess Vaughn confessing to her therapist the abortion she had at the age of 18, US Magazine, October 29

Women should never, ever have to choose between killing a child or having a career.
Anyone who is concerned about women’s equality ought to take a good, hard look at Countess’s statements, because we are FAILING WOMEN when abortion is seen as the panacea for all our ills. And yet, it does absolutely NOTHING to change the attitudes of people who think pregnant women are a liability. In fact, it only reinforces and further cements the idea.
“Feminists” ought to be up in arms over this. But sadly, their heads are in the sand while they continue to demand abortion.
The joke’s on you, pro-choice “feminists.” Women really have no power at all if our only option to further our careers is to kill our own children. One thing that we’re asked to squelch in society is one thing that makes us so different and special – WE carry life and nourish life with OUR bodies.
And for society to make us feel like there’s something wrong with that is insanely anti-woman.

How well has that worked out for you Countess Vaughn?
Your child gave her life for your career.

If you watch the interview, Carla, it seems like she is not proud of what she did. I could be misreading her, though.

Indeed. she does.
I pray she finds healing.
You are absolutely right Kel! One would think that feminists would be proudly shouting that women CAN have a career and CAN have a family at the same time. That we are strong enough and capable enough to do both with support!!

Another sad story about a woman hurt and a child killed because of legal abortion.
Thank you for sharing, Countess. Healing is possible.
Do guard yourself and your children. Some will hate on you for the death of your child; others will hate you for being sorry about it. Just keep on being “real.” Be honest about the mistake and the pain, and encourage others to avoid abortion and its life-long aftermath.
Young Black women need to hear the truth from you.

FYI
Thirty-five years ago the Pregnancy Discrimination Act became law. Like and share in celebration! The PDA amended Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to prohibit sex discrimination on the basis of pregnancy. It declared that women who were pregnant, or who were affected by pregnancy; and women affected by pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions shall be treated the same for all employment-related purposes, including receipt of benefits under fringe benefit programs, as other persons not so affected but similar in their ability or inability to work, and nothing in section 703(h) of this title shall be interpreted to permit otherwise. This subsection shall not require an employer to pay for health insurance benefits for abortion, except where the life of the mother would be endangered if the fetus were carried to term, or except where medical complications have arisen from an abortion: Provided, That nothing herein shall preclude an employer from providing abortion benefits or otherwise affect bargaining agreements in regard to abortion. http://www.feministsforlife.org/avoiding-the-parent-trap-protecting-yourself-from-pregnancy-discrimination/

“I had an unwanted pregnancy.”
.
missy vaughn tells us she had an ‘unwanted pregnancy’.
.
the ‘dead babies r us’ mob like to compare pregnancy to a disease in need of a cure.
.
I know I’m only 64 years old, but I have never heard of anyone who had an ‘un-wanted disease’ one day and then desperately ‘wanted’ to be afflicted the with the same disease on another day and would spend tens of thousands of dollars in an attempt to become infected.
.
But to missy vaughn’s credit she was intellectually honest enough to acknowlege the obvious:
.
“I had to make a decision to get rid of a [sacrifice my]child for my career”…

Off-topic, but I’d just like to say Happy Halloween to everyone who is reading this!

Hollywood? That bastion of enlightenment, liberalism, tolerance and freedom of choice. You can’t be serious.
They would actually force a “choice” on a woman?

Hi JDC,
Thank you. A very happy halloween to you as well.
I’m from the era when children could trick or treat by themselves at night. No time limits were set by the city.
How times have changed.

“I had to do something about it. I had to make a decision to get rid of a child for my career”
No, she did not HAVE to. She CHOSE to. She no more had to have an abortion that she had to have sex.
I have no doubt her bosses may have found a way to make life miserable for her or even fired her. But there is zero way to prove that her child may not have furthered her career in the long run. One door closes and another one opens and all that.
How is killing one’s child to keep your career an example of feminism?
I have never heard of Vaughn until today. It is sad to think that the only reason I have heard of her today is because of the child she chose to co-create and then have killed.
I sincerely wish her the best in her career. But even more than that, I wish her story gets spread far and wide as an example that we should never, ever put careers ahead of the very lives of our beloved children.

Kel started with a great post.
As a country, we have some of the worst maternity laws, day care rates and coverage, and health care systems in the world. It’s become a reason for abortion that is sad to see – sad that the economic system so focused on getting ahead results in abortions.

Countess Danielle Vaughn (her real name) was born August 8, 1978 in Idabel, Oklahoma, a small town of approximately 7500 people. She was born to Leo and Sandra Vaughn who taught in the local schools. Very early Countess established herself as a young singer with a dynamic voice. In 1988 she sang her way to stardom by becoming “Star Search” Junior Vocalist Champion. From there her TV career was born. She co-starred on NBC’s “227”. She had recurring roles on “Hangin’ With Cooper,” and “Roc.” In 1995 she was a part of the original cast of “Moesha” playing the role of “Kim.” In 1999 UPN’s “The Parkers” debuted with Countess starring in this “Moesha” spinoff. Also in 1999 she was a part of the cast of the movie, “Trippin'”. From the NAACP she has received The Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series Award, and in 1998 she received that organization’s “Image Award.” Future plans are to do an album and act in more movies.

The ‘day of the dead’ is no cause for salutations or celebrations except for costume sellers, candy sellers, dentists and pagans.

That is one of the gayest attempts at justifying socialism that I have ever seen.
the beaches of the workers paradise of Cuba.
.
Please show us photos of American women fleeing to Canada or Mexico for better child care or health care and to escape the ‘republican war on women’.
.
You are a self deluded boot licking propagandist for all things socialist.
.
There are women coming to the United States from all over the world and they aren’t coming seeking an abortion or child care or health care. They are fleeing oppressive governments and religions and seeking the freedom and economic opportunities which the United States provides like no other political/socio/economic system in the history of the world. They are coming to provide a better life for themselves and their daughters.
.
Dare I say it? Women are coming to America to “get ahead”.
.
Stop inhaling and put down your blunt and dump out your boRAT koolaid.
.
By the way you never did provide any ‘fruit’ of your professed christianity.
.
Got a picture of the that icthus on the trunk of your prius, right next to your coexist bumper sticker?
.
How about a copy of your tax return showing your charitable contributions?
.
A photo of you giving an unaccompained minor child refugee a cup or water in Jesus’ name.
.
A family photo of you and the missus and the children thanking GOD before you sit down to eat your granola and yogurt.

Heather, she’s not saying she’s proud of her abortion, but she’s not admitting it was the wrong choice either.
She’s playing the role of the victim when in reality it was her child.
I personally think she is using her abortion in attempts to stay in the spotlight.

Prax I see I totally missed it. thanks BTW what show was she on that this abortion was necessary for?

I’m not sure, heather. The only thing Pamela listed that I’ve watched is Star Search.

“The ‘day of the dead’ is no cause for salutations or celebrations except for costume sellers, candy sellers, dentists and pagans.” – ‘dedicated to remembering the dead, including saints (hallows), martyrs, and all the faithful departed believers.’ – ‘All Hallows’ Eve is a Christianized feast initially influenced by Celtic harvest festivals with possible pagan roots’ like other events.
“They are fleeing oppressive governments and religions and seeking the freedom and economic opportunities” – and the reproductive rights.

Kenthebirther, please refrain from using slurs to justify your position. By saying this is “the gayest” attempt is highly offensive to homosexual and transgendered communities.

oh please Frank you sound like Anderson Cooper demanding that some dumb movie get rid of ” that car is gay ” and they did so. That would be like asking a movie to remove anything negative said about heterosexual men or women. just knock it off and relax.

praxedes I do remember her from some sit com. that was years ago. she’s still attractive but she’s packed on the pounds. I’m sure the Hollywood rolls are drying up for her. I assumed since she was seeing a therapist it was due to her abortion. Also maybe eating is her comfort zone because of the deep rooted pain from pas.
