Hobby Lobby decision: Victory for religious freedom!

Hobby Lobby pro-life SCOTUS decision and against abortion

UDPATE 6:20p: Americans United for Life notes:

The Court acknowledged the dangerous and radical view advanced by the Obama Administration: “Under HHS’s view, RFRA would permit the Government to require all employers to provide coverage for any medical procedure allowed by law in the jurisdiction in question—for instance, third-trimester abortions or assisted suicide.  The owners of many closely held corporations could not in good conscience provide such coverage, and thus HHS would effectively exclude these people form full participation in the economic life of the Nation.” (45-46)

Goldberg: Liberals are the ones forcing beliefs on society

rosaryby Kelli

The right to own a gun is a far more settled issue constitutionally, politically and legally in this country, but not even the National Rifle Association would dream to argue that we have a right to free guns, provided by our employers. If your boss were required to give you a gun, your new employer-provided Glock still wouldn’t be free because non-cash compensation is still compensation. The costs to the employer are fungible, which means whether it’s a pistol or a pill, the cost is still coming out of your paycheck — and your coworkers’ paychecks….

Ponnuru: HHS Mandate contradicts Religious Freedom Restoration Act

by Kelli

ponnuruFrom reading the New York Times, you might think that religious conservatives had started a culture war over whether company health-insurance plans should cover contraception. What’s at issue in two cases the Supreme Court has just agreed to hear, the Times editorializes, is “the assertion by private businesses and their owners of an unprecedented right to impose the owners’ religious views on workers who do not share them.”

That way of looking at the issue will be persuasive if your memory does not extend back two years. Up until 2012, no federal law or regulation required employers to cover contraception (or drugs that may cause abortion, which one of the cases involves)….

LA Times columnist compares HHS Mandate objections to 1960s racism

The Supreme Court is expected to decide in the next week or so whether to take up the question of whether a for-profit company can deny its female employees contraception coverage in employer-provided health plans because the company owner has a religious objection. We’re not talking about religious institutions here. We’re talking about a secular […]

  • Pro-Life in TN applauds the closing of the Volunteer Women’s Medical Clinic in Knoxville – evidence of the impact of incremental pro-life laws at the state level. The Life Defense Act of 2012, which went into effect in Tennessee on July 1, stipulates that abortionists must have admitting privileges at a local hospital for the safety of patients. Since many abortionists drive or fly in from another state for the day to perform abortions and offer no follow-up with patients, causing them to seek any post-abortion care at an ER.

The clinic director penned a revealing farewell letter, showing how vital their abortion revenue stream was.

Georgetown U invites Kathleen Sebelius to speak at commencement

In what can only be interpreted as a direct challenge to America’s Catholic bishops, Georgetown University has announced that “pro-choice” Catholic Kathleen Sebelius, Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services and lead architect of the Obama administration’s assault on religious freedom through the HHS contraception mandate, has been invited to speak at one of Georgetown’s several commencement ceremonies.
