  • Judie Brown of American Life League calls out Cardinal Dolan’s hypocrisy in inviting President Obama to the Al Smith Dinner. While Dolan claimed on his own blog that dining with sinners is Christlike and that to disinvite opponents would leave him dining alone, Dolan declined an invitation to offer the opening prayer at a 2009 Pro-Life Wisconsin banquet because Brown (who has publicly castigated bishops) was going to be the keynote speaker:

On the one hand, he found it problematic that I led and continue to lead a campaign to beseech Catholic bishops to obey canon 915 and deny Holy Communion to pro-abortion politicians. On the other hand, he finds it Christlike to dine with the most pro-abortion president in the history of this nation.

Paul Ryan: HHS contraceptive mandate “will be gone” if Romney wins

… Wisconsin congressman [and pro-life Catholic Paul Ryan] said if he and Mitt Romney win the election in November, the requirement [for] religious employers… to provide contraception, sterilization, and abortifacient drugs “will be gone, I can guarantee you that…. The Obama administration failed to recognize this mandate is in violation of our First Amendment right […]

  • Here’s a classic B-word slip in a Slate article discussing how the placenta works, entitled, “Your fetus is an alien”:

[NYU’s Adrian] Erlebacher’s not the only one studying this stuff. [Harvey] Kliman, the Yale researcher, also investigated human placentas, and his findings suggest an entirely different mechanism in play. Kliman suspects that a specific protein in pregnant women, called PP13, acts as a decoy of sorts to trick the mom’s immune system to stay away from the baby.

Justice Scalia: Constitution silent on abortion

UPDATE 7/21, 3:50a: Providing context to Scalia’s statement below helps. Here is what he said just prior: My view is regardless of whether you think prohibiting abortion is good or whether you think prohibiting abortion is bad, regardless of how you come out on that, my only point is the Constitution does not say anything […]

  • In Mississippi, abortion clinic protesters got a scare when a man stopped his car and slashed up their sign with hunting knives.
  • Francis Grady, a 50-year-old man with a fairly extensive criminal past, has admitted he tried to burn down a Planned Parenthood in Wisconsin.
  • The Washington Post profiles “anti-abortion grandpa” Dick Retta, a sidewalk counselor who has been sued under the FACE Act:

Retta’s lawyer, Jim Henderson, denies in court documents that Retta blocked the woman from entering the clinic. She had approached Retta for help, he wrote, and volunteers were leading her into the clinic against her wishes. He said Retta didn’t shout or yell but said to the woman, “don’t let them force you to have an abortion,” a statement protected by the First Amendment to the Constitution.

Obama’s contraceptive mandate sparks nationwide demonstrations

On March 23 at high noon thousands of Americans will gather in over 60 cities with one simple message for President Obama: Back away from the First Amendment. On that day pro-life and religious groups will gather at federal buildings in Washington D.C., New York, Chicago, Dallas, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and more to demonstrate in […]

New fetal pain bill brings late-term abortion battle to Obama’s back yard

Yesterday, as the March for Life was taking place, pro-life Arizona Congressman Trent Franks (pictured right) introduced the District of Columbia Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. The backdrop, according to the National Right to Life Committee: Article I of the U.S. Constitution established that the national seat of government would be placed forever not within […]

MSNBC’s Chris Matthews spins Rick Santorum’s views on contraception

Chris Matthews: Let me tell you what he said. He’s said “My religion should dominate, should trump issues of the Constitution.”… He was saying, “Bill O’Reilly, you and I are of the same religion, therefore we should deny a woman’s constitutional right to buy birth control or a male to buy birth control.” Isn’t that […]
