What Planet is This Guy on?
By Mary Kay Hastings

So says Frank Schaeffer, New York Times best selling author of the book Crazy for God: How I Grew Up As One of the Elect, Helped Found the Religious Right and Lived to Take All (or Almost All) of It Back.
He is the son of former Evangelical Missionary, Francis Schaeffer, but turned his back on the Evangelicals, saying “I abandoned Protestant Christian fundamentalism many years ago for Greek Orthodoxy. I converted because the Orthodox tradition embraces paradox and mystery. For someone raised in a strict Calvinist home, relief from absolutist certainty was most welcome. ”
Sounds like he’s abandoning the prolife movement as well.
“Today when I listen to Obama speak (and to his remarkable wife, Michelle) what I hear is a world view that actually nurtures life. Obama is trying to lead this country to a place where the intrinsic worth of each individual is celebrated. A leader who believes in hope, the future, trying to save our planet and providing a just and good life for everyone is someone who is actually pro-life.”
Which Obama is he listening to?
From the Washington Times:
Mr. Obama is also one of the most pro-choice presidential contenders in history. His 100 percent rating from the Illinois Planned Parenthood Council as a state senator was just the beginning. Mr. Obama is known in pro-life circles for arguing cold-bloodedly on the Illinois Senate floor that babies who survive botched late-term abortions should not be considered “persons” because this would be tantamount to admitting “that they are persons that are entitled to the kinds of protections that would be provided to a — a child, a 9-month old — child that was delivered to term.”
On the senate floor:
OBAMA: Number one, whenever we define a previable fetus as a person that is protected by the equal protection clause or the other elements in the Constitution, what we’re really saying is, in fact, that they are persons that are entitled to the kinds of protections that would be provided to a — a child, a nine-month-old — child that was delivered to term. That determination then, essentially, if it was accepted by a court, would forbid abortions to take place. I mean, it — it would essentially bar abortions, because the equal protection clause does not allow somebody to kill a child, and if this is a child, then this would be an anti-abortion statute. (Gee Barak…they don’t call you bright for nuthin’!)
* Voted against banning partial birth abortion. (Oct 2007)

* Extend presumption of good faith to abortion protesters. (Oct 2006)
* Constitution is a living document; no strict constructionism. (Oct 2006)
* Pass the Stem Cell Research Bill. (Jun 2004)
* Protect a woman’s right to choose. (May 2004)
* Supports Roe v. Wade. (Jul 1998)
* Voted YES on expanding research to more embryonic stem cell lines. (Apr 2007)

* Voted YES on $100M to reduce teen pregnancy by education & contraceptives. (Mar 2005)
* Rated 0% by the NRLC, indicating a pro-choice stance. (Dec 2006)
Mr. Schaeffer, I don’t know if you noticed, but the Greek Orthodox church is pro-life. And in case it escaped your attention . . . Barack Obama is not.
“Today when I listen to Obama speak (and to his remarkable wife, Michelle) what I hear is a world view that actually nurtures life . . .”
I suggest you get your hearing tested. ASAP.
HatTip: Commenter Ray

Obama biggest contributers are Wall Street bankers.
He will not change the regressive tax code.
He supports abortion for the convenience of those with means and for the elimination of those without means.
One in three black children is lost to abortion before he or she is born. Where is the nurturing for these the most vulnerable among us?
What, no credit for when I pointed out this article in the comments for “Is John McCain the “right” man for GOP nomination?” on February 8?
And for the record, Schaeffer doesn’t look anything like your little Gollum illustration.
Speaking of people who look like Gollum, Gary Bauer just endorsed John McCain.
Not Huckabee, McCain.
Ray,
Sorry…It took everything I had just to get this post up…Bethany is going to tweak it when she can…I’ll hattip you now!

I have been doing research on the modern black genocide. According to the Indiana State Department of Health Website (I’m from Indiana) 0.8% of white people’s pregnancy ends in abortion. 23% of black people’s pregnancy ends in abortion.
How sick is that?
African American’s make up 8.9% of the population in Indiana but account for 28.9% of all abortions. In Mississippi the African American population is 37.1% but they make up 75.7% of all abortions according to the latest CDC report! In 49 out of 52 reporting area’s the percentage of abortions from the African American community is MORE than the percentage of population. (when comparing the CDC report to the US census report.)
Just think…..Where the KKK left off, feminism and liberalism picks up and finishes the job. It’s just disgusting to me that an African American politician can be so blind to this and not do anything to get the truth out. I’ll be doing all states statistics soon…I’m sure Illinois will be just as sickening, if not more.
Yeah, vote for McCain, he has promised us more wars. We could be in Iraq for 100 years according to him. Now that is some good ol’ killing going on there. Pro Life McCain, Pro Life Huckster, all for KILLING in the name of God and war.
Jill is obviously suffering from ..nionistbigotitis… ( silly girl ! ) : \ You as a woman first, should realize the steps women have made in this nation and world wide when it comes to thier rights..You must be very young or vey stupid to not remember when there where not rights for women when it came to abortion..Evidently you didn`t remember the mothers` who not only mourned a infant ( fetus ) ,but the mother as well from where she was forced to go into a back room or a closet ..or to some ( some un-sterilized chop shop ) to get an abortion .,and died ! NO ONE WANTS ABORTION . BUT IT IS BETTER TO SAVE ONE LIFE THAN LOSE TO .And abortion is down .. very much .. that alone shows me we are living in a much socially conscious. But until Jill is READY TO ATTEND EVERY NERVOUS FEMALE IN AMERICA AND SEE TO HER WELL BEING ,IF REVERSAL OF R.V.W EVER WAS MANDATED.,JUST IN CASE SHE DOES SEEK AN ABORTION REGARDLESS OF ETHICAL STANDARDS., AND SAVE HER FROM KILLING HER AND HER FETUS…SHE ( JILL ) NEEDS TO SHUT UP
Genocide?
African Americans are the second fastest-growing demographic in America. They’re right behind Hispanics without the benefit of immigration.
White and Asian Americans have been breeding below replacement level for almost two generations.
You might want to ask why African Americans have a hugely disproportionate abortion rate and and a 70% illegitimacy rate. Why all of those unplanned pregnancies among women who can least afford them?
Valerie, even if your numbers are right, (I question the accuracy of the .08% of white pregnancies number), there are simply too many other unknown factors to call this a “genocide.” For instance, what is the rate of unintended pregancies in the black vs. white populations there? If the rate among blacks is significantly higher, then their higher abortion rate makes more sense. This would indicate that more funding for birth control education and distribution targeting black areas is called for.
And this is isn’t necessarily about race. What happens when we adjust for socio-economic position? Is it really just poor people, more of whom may happen to be black, that are getting more abortions?
Whatever the case, I believe that women are intelligent and best able to determine whether or not they are prepared to raise a child properly. If they are aborting, it is for good reason.
Mass…um, EXCUSE me, but this is Jill’s website and she can say whatever she wants.
>Sorry…It took everything I had just to get this post up…Bethany is going to tweak it when she can…I’ll hattip you now!
Thanks, MK!

“And abortion is down ”
Think again. Abortion statistics went down because fewer states are reporting their abortion statistics to the government. Convenient, huh? My favorite is California not reporting anything anymore since they accounted for approx 17% of all US abortions when they were reporting. My second favorite would have to be NJ only reporting statistics from the public clinics and not the privately owned clinics (NJ has more private clinics than public).
“but the mother as well from where she was forced to go into a back room or a closet ..or to some ( some un-sterilized chop shop ) to get an abortion .,and died ”
Yea – now woman can go to the front ally butcher shops and die. Hey, at least the abortionist make more money now that it is legal.
Exactly how many “illegal” abortions were there?
OH and here is my favorite – BEFORE Roe V Wade in 1972, the CDC reports there were 586,760 LEGAL abortions. Gee, I guess women didn’t have to go to the back ally’s all that much huh? AND the CDC reports that in 1972 there were 24 deaths from legal abortions. hmmm… Did you know that women were dying from legal abortions too?
Amazing what one can find out when you stop listening to the BS and do research to find out the truth!
Amazing what one can find out when you stop listening to the BS and do research to find out the truth!
Yes, Valerie..it really is amazing. It’s even better when one doesn’t buy into that BS in the first place. :)
Valerie,
Nice work, naming a genocide based on abortion statistics and then, a few minutes later, citing how inaccurate those statistics are. Who exactly is spouting the BS?

You can find all the Indiana State Department of Health Termination of Pregnancy informtion here:
http://www.in.gov/isdh/dataandstats/itp/2005/toc.htm
AND you can find all the CDC information for 2004 (latest year reported) here:
http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/pdf/ss/ss5609.pdf
AND you can find all census information here:
quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/00000.html
(you will have to copy and paste…my computer has problems…..)
Go ahead – check all my numbers. I never mind someone checking my math – math has never been my strongest point.
Also – there is MORE contraception education in the Poorer sections of town – that is where all the Planned Parenthood’s are in Indianapolis. NOT the abortion clinic – that is in on of the mini industrial sections, for reasons I have never been able to figure out. That can be proven if you go to Google Maps.
And just an FYI on the black/abortion stats for Illinois that I said I would be finding….can’t….Illinois doesn’t report statistics by race. That lack of information is here:
http://www.idph.state.il.us/health/abortion/abort06.htm
Let’s not kid ourselves here. We all know that the black population of this country has the highest rate of unwed mothers and men who abandon their women, and they don’t appear to be concerned about it, hence their high abortion rates.
Abortion is their easy way out, and always will be until the mothers AND fathers start taking RESPONSIBILITY for their sex lives and educate their children.
Come on, people, this is NO BIG SECRET.
Ray –
The totality of the abortion statistics is wrong – that was my point. I am quoting from the statistics that have been provided. I doubt states are inflating their numbers of abortions, don’t you?
Ray –
you can go to the CDC website posted above and read their section on how they obtained there numbers. It is in that section that they explain how states report/do not report/ or partial reports. Then you can go to their tables/ graphs and it explains it there as well.

Obviously, YOU want abortion. If you didn’t believe in killing babies, you would say it would be best to SAVE TWO.
MASS, “Evidently you didn`t remember the mothers` who not only mourned a infant ( fetus ) ,but the mother as well from where she was forced to go into a back room or a closet ..or to some ( some un-sterilized chop shop ) to get an abortion .,and died”
I am getting so tired of this “poor abortive mom who shoved a hanger up her you know what and died from it” rhetoric.
No one forced her to do this, and no one forced her to go to a chop shop. That was her choice. Remember choice? Funny how you flip-flop choice and forced when it’s convenient to do so. Call it what it is…a psychotic choice.
Yes, the borties love to talk nostalgically about the “back alley abortions” before Roe, but there are a couple of things they always leave out. One, all abortions are done by proaborts, no prolifer will do one legally or illegally. So essentially the borties are telling us that if we make abortion illegal, they will be killing lots more women. Two, you don’t make something legal to reduce it’s frequency. According to a study sponsored jointly by Harvard and MIT, antiabortion laws do reduce the number of abortions done. The study is called “Analyzing the Effects of State Legislation on the Incidence of Abortion During the 1990s by Michael J. New, Ph.D. Center for Data Analysis Report #04-01 January 21, 2004. A full copy of the report is available at http://www.heritage.org/Research/Family/CDA04-01.cfm

Actually most of the growth in the African American community is from immigration. Their birthrate is barely above replacement rate.

Ah yes, Franky Schaeffer. Can anyone say Benedict Arnold?
He complains that his late fathers’ influence still “persists”…like some noxious weed…
And that his new-found lack of certitude is a breath of fresh air because of his background…note that things like truth or evidence don’t enter into the equation, just his reactionary feelings.
Does founding a movement, as he essentially claims to have done, entitle you to undermine it? Sounds like all he wants is control over souls, at any cost, regardless of truth, regardless of who gets betrayed or hurt, his diatribe against Dobson, et al, notwithstanding.
Doyle, dittoes on the term “borties”…and the creed…and I love the cartoon with the deadbeat antidad and the “prochoice” antimom. Puts the gender-based double standard in a new light.
Quoth Frank Schaeffer:
What we need in America is a spiritual rebirth, a turning away from the false value of consumerism and utilitarianism that have trumped every aspect of human life. To implement this vision we need leaders that inspire but to do so they have to be what they say they are. It’s not about policy it’s about character.
Amen, brother! Preach it!
Um, the problem is this: What we really need in this country is spiritual revival. You can’t get that from the government. I don’t care who we elect, whether it’s Obama, Clinton, or even too-holy-for-the-GOP Huckabee.
We don’t need a political savior, because politics can’t save. We need a real Savior. Thank God, we already have one! Now we need to proclaim His Gospel to every sinner who’s hurting, and we need to preach His Word to anyone who is willing to listen.
Mr. Schaeffer has unwittingly demonstrated something that leaves me profoundly uneasy about Obama. Barack Obama isn’t running for President. He’s running for Messiah. Look at the press coverage. Listen to the testimonies of his followers. This isn’t a political movement; it’s a new religion!
Our Messiah has already come, and He’s not Barack Obama. Get a clue, people.
Naaman,
Check out this website…

DEFINITION OF “ANTICHRIST”: the Man of Sin that will appear during the Tribulation Week, who will both oppose Christ and substitute himself for Christ, to be worshipped as God in the rebuilt Jerusalem Temple.
“He shall sit in the Temple of God as if he were Christ, and leading astray those who worship him.” (St. Irenaeus)
“He will call together the whole people to himself, out of every country of the Dispersion, making them his own, as though they were his own children, and promising to restore their country and establish again their kingdom and nation, in order that he may be worshipped by them as God.” (St. Hippolytus)
“For when he is come, and of his own accord concentrates in his own person the apostasy, and accomplishes whatever he shall do according to his own will and choice, sitting also in the Temple of God so that his dupes may adore him as the Christ…” (St. Irenaeus)
“We will win the nomination, we will win the general election, and you and I together, we will change this country and we will change the world,” Barack Obama

Amen!
Hal,
Name me three solid, actual things that Obama has done or has promised to do…
1. Bring troops home
2. Change tone in Washington
3. Be competent and appoint other competent people
4. Raise minimum wage, and index it for inflation.
5. End tax breaks for corporations that move off shore.
6. $4,000 college tuition tax credit in exchange for national service
7. Negotiate not only with our friends, but with countries we disagree with. So every nation on Earth knows where America stands and what our position is.
8. Read the Constitution and live by it. No more torture, no more secret prisons, no more suspension of Habeas Corpus.
9. Communicate with the Emergency service officials in all 50 states to ensure we’re ready before disaster strikes.
10. work to increase teacher pay, better physical facilities for public schools, and change the mindset of parents and students who are not taking school seriously enough
This is just from memory. There is a lot of stuff on the internet if you want to take a look.
But, I’m not supporting him for any “solid, actual things” he’s promised. I’m supporting him because I trust he’ll handle whatever comes down the pike with intelligence, grace, and competence. It’s not THAT hard of a job for a smart decent person. You appoint smart decent people, and you communicate effectively with Americans and the World. (to be honest, the less Washington accomplishes the better, in many ways)
“”We will win the nomination, we will win the general election, and you and I together, we will change this country and we will change the world,” Barack Obama”
That’s right!
Since when did wanting to change things around here constitute worship?
You guys must be really paranoid to believe that a presidential candidate is the antichrist, or even a makeshift “savior.”
Maybe you think that because we’ve been with Bush for so long that we don’t know what hope is. When people start getting their hopes up it challenges and attempts to brighten the broken spirits of others. If you want to call the inspiration (hope) as the call of the antichrist, then you might as well call people like MLK an antichrist, or a “new religion”, who also go against the grain to change the way see things.
i went to his website. Under “issues” he has tons of concrete proposals on each issue. Sure, some of it is generalized, but much is detailed.
2. Change tone in Washington
You mean like ringtone?
3. Be competent and appoint other competent people
Oh yeah, that’s solid.
7. Negotiate not only with our friends, but with countries we disagree with. So every nation on Earth knows where America stands and what our position is.
He didn’t happen to mention what any of those positions are, did he? I mean what good does it do if the rest of world knows, but we don’t?
PIP,
Did you read those comments or watch the videos? It was like the Beatles had come back!
Is it just me or does Obama’s rhetoric on change (I like that word today) sound just like the speeches we’ve heard over and over again for years while watching the Miss America pagaents?
He is “pretty”…
MK, it’s like you’re searching for a reason to hate him, when you have a perfectly good reason already: He’s pro-choice and you’re not.
I also think that if Obama could make Nancy Pelosi blink half as much, that would be GREAT change in Washington!
mk,
people like him!
Hal,
I don’t hate him…honestly. I don’t anything about him. Naaman had mentioned that he was like the Messiah and I had just finished reading that article that I linked to…thought it was providential.
I don’t understand the whole adoration mentality, that’s all. I see his mouth moving, but so far I haven’t heard him say anything. It’s all “The little engine that could” and sunshine and lollipops. But what’s he gonna DO?
At least McCain tells us all the things he’s going to do. Then I can disagree with something concrete..lol. But it’s hard to argue with “We can make a change….we can make a change…”
PIP,
I know they like him. I like spongebob, but I don’t want him to be president…at least I don’t think I do. Hmmmmm….maybe I’ve got something there…
@MK: Colbert ’08!
Oh Rae,
I’m so glad you’re back! Okay, Colbert. Colbert, Spongebob…just not Obama!
MK,
Read the website. It goes quite in depth on what he’s gonna DO.
Rae,
LOL. Keep dreaming.
MK, there are a ton of concrete things on his website. I listed 10 that I was aware of. Some are vague, some more concrete. The Right keeps saying, “he sure talks nice, but he never says anything,” but he does. You might not agree we should end torture or close Gitmo, but those are concrete proposals. Going after multi-national corporations who move headquarters offshore is a concrete proposal. Raising teacher salaries (not the Federal Government’s job in my opinion) is a concrete proposal.
Other than banning abortion, what concrete proposal do you WANT a president to support?
At the rally he laid out some stuff he planned on doing. You just have to be informed. At least Obama isn’t trying to scare anyone into voting for him (I’m looking at you McCain).
@PiP: I will keep dreaming…as it is a beautiful dream…
@MK: :)
Alison-
In MY dreams, Colbert does a little more than run the country, if you know what I mean ;)
@Pip: Kinky! >:-D
Wow PIP,
Same here…in my dreams Spongebob does a little more than run the country, if you know what I mean ;)
(We are talking flipping hamburgers, right?)
Hal:
Obama proposes to do a lot. What has he done, besides run?
All I can think of is:
1) was elected Senator
2) is running for Pres.
3) wrote a book.
4) made friends with Oprah
Why not Huckabee?
He’s got a pretty long list of accomplishments and personality as well….
I believe Obama is capable of being President. Huckabee is too. But I don’t agree with many of Huckabee’s positions, and he’s not likely to even get the nomination anyway.
He’s a nice guy, but I’m not comfortable with a preacher in the White House.
I heard Obama in a speech the other day. He had an “epiphany” and that everyone else could have the “epiphany” too by joining his campaign and supporting him. It sounded like messianic overtones to me.
“It sounded like messianic overtones to me.”
I guess people will grasp at straws for anything.
“@Pip: Kinky! >:-D”
You bet ;)
“(We are talking flipping hamburgers, right?)”
Well…in a manner of speaking, yes.
I worship him.
He’s bigger than Jesus

Obama’s a gives good speeches, but many aren’t comfortable with a black man in the White House.
…………
Prejudice is Prejudice, no matter who you hate.
Yes, but would Obama force us all to become black? No, that’s an impossibility. Would Huckabee force us all to convert to Christianity? That is the real question.
HUCKABEES ARMY!

Hey, I didn’t mean to derail the conversation. Vote for Obama if you want to do so. It’s your right.
When I went to my primary this morning (I live in Virginia), I accepted a flier about Obama. Indeed, it provided many specifics about what he wants to do. Obama promises to end the partisan rancour in DC and pass universal health-care within his first term.
I suppose that his second term will include raising the dead and forgiving the sins of mankind. ;)
Seriously, my observation was about Obama’s followers as much as it was about the Man Himself. I feel sorry for people who look for salvation in politics. It ain’t there. No politician will ever save the world. The most that we can hope for is that our elected leaders will restrain evil. That’s their job. Hope, inspiration, and “change” have to come from another source.
The GOP forgets this lesson from time to time, but at least they remember it occasionally. The Democrats have forgotten it completely.
BTW: I voted for Hillary. :) The GOP nomination is already a done deal, and I wanted to make my vote count for something….
Yes, but would Obama force us all to become black? No, that’s an impossibility. Would Huckabee force us all to convert to Christianity? That is the real question.

Hey, I’m voting for a Christian for President. I’d probably even vote for a Preacher if he (or she) was competent, shared my values and inspired me.
Huckabee seems like a decent guy, with some strange beliefs. He’d probably be okay as President, much like Jimmy Carter.

LOL Naaman!!
Hal,
I didn’t remember that Carter had been Gov. of Georgia, until I looked it up just now. I think Huckabee would make a better president than Carter who always seemed out of his element to me. Huckabee seems intelligent, he’s good with people, and down-to-earth. I’m not sure what you’re referring to when you say he has “some strange beliefs”. He’s anti-abortion; anything else?
“I’m not sure what you’re referring to when you say he has “some strange beliefs”. He’s anti-abortion; anything else?”
Sure, evolution.
Carter was (is) very intelligent too. Naval Academy, Nuclear Scientist, Nobel Peace Price winner.
Not a great President, but a decent guy. Maybe Huckabee would be better. I don’t have a real problem with him, but, of course, I’m much more liberal/libertarian, and he’s neither.
Hal:
Carter was (is) very intelligent too. Naval Academy, Nuclear Scientist, Nobel Peace Price winner.
They gave the Nobel Peace Prize to Arafat, too. The Prize is not a real achievement; it’s merely a way for a handful of liberal/internationalist elites to send love notes to their favorite celebrities.
That said, Carter is a highly intelligent man. I won’t dream of disputing that point. I disagree with him on just about every issue, but the man is smart. But being smart didn’t prevent him from being a horrible President.
Intelligence is helpful in the Presidency, but it isn’t the only qualification. A President also needs to be a good communicator, have a strong vision for the country, and delegate well. In fact, as I look at those qualifications, I’m not even sure that intelligence is the most important one. I’d rather have a President with a clear vision and good communication skills who was “merely” of average intelligence … than a mega-nerd like Ross Perot. ;)
Huckabee is a true conservative, he doesn’t believe in evolution, a round earth, anything! ;)
No, that’s an impossibility. Would Huckabee force us all to convert to Christianity? That is the real question.
Posted by: JKeller at February 12, 2008 7:30 AM
Seeing as how nearly all if not all our US presidents have been Christians and none have forced any conversions, that is a real inane question.
I remember Rev. Jesse Jackson running for president but I never heard anyone fear that he would force folks to convert.
Hmm, why is that?
Hal brings up an interesting point about Obama, Huckabee and christianity. Why is it these guys are so different if they are both christian? Have you heard Obama comment on his religious beliefs? Has anyone asked him? I haven’t heard.
Jill and others are often mentioning bible references and religion and get slammed by pro abort critics who hate religion. Why doesn’t Obama get slammed for his religion?
Here is how Huckabee explains the evolution question on youtube.com:
Go to “Mike Huckabee responds to evolution question”
He gives what I think is a well though out response. He is saying that the question is “was God active in the Creation process? or “was it an accident?” He believes that God was the creator. He leaves the possibility of evolution open, saying ,”if people want to believe that they are decendants of a primate, fine”, but “I don’t know, I wasn’t there.”
For me that issue to is irrelevant, because he’s Pro-God and Pro-Life. (Notice how Giuliani looks foolish as the only one on the panel who laughs at him out loud.)
Anon,
I don’t think Obama is particularly religious, I’ve heard he goes to church “when he can.” I don’t think Oprah would be supporting him if he was religious, because she is not. She’s more of a “spiritual” type, from what I’ve seen of her TV Shows.
Janet, I’m hoping you’re right.
“Have you heard Obama comment on his religious beliefs? Has anyone asked him? I haven’t heard.”

MK, HELP!
From the Washington Post article referenced above.
“Many Democrats discovered God in the 2004 exit polls.”
“Specifically, they looked at the importance of religious voters to President Bush’s majority and decided: We need some of those folks. Off Democrats went to their Bibles, finding every verse they could — there are many — describing the imperative to help the poor, battle injustice and set the oppressed free… Here’s what stands out. First, Obama offers the first faith testimony I have heard from any politician that speaks honestly about the uncertainties of belief. “Faith doesn’t mean that you don’t have doubts,” Obama declared. “You need to come to church in the first place precisely because you are first of this world, not apart from it.”
“In an interview yesterday, Obama didn’t back away. “By definition, faith admits doubt,” he said. “Otherwise, it isn’t faith. . . . If we don’t sometimes feel hopeless, then we’re really insulating ourselves from the world around us.”
…………………………………………
I can’t find a source whose definition of “faith” includes an admission of doubt. Do his remarks make sense or is he just making it up as he goes along?
From the Baptist Press website, June 28, 2007:
“…in time, I came to see faith as more than just a comfort to the weary or a hedge against death, but rather as an active, palpable agent in the world and in my own life,” Obama said.”

Anonymous, it seems familiar to me, too. My first guess is the cover of a Ray Bradbury “Martian Chronicles” book, but I’m not sure.
