Pro-life vid of day: Jared Leto’s pro-life Oscar acceptance speech
Last night, actor Jared Leto received the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the movie, Dallas Buyers Club.
In his acceptance speech, Leto, perhaps inadvertently, made the case for life when one finds herself pregnant at an inopportune time:
In 1971, in Bossier City, Louisiana, there was a teenage girl who was pregnant with her second child. She was a high school dropout and a single mom, but somehow she managed to make a better life for herself and her children. She encouraged her kids to be creative and work hard and do something special. That girl was my mother, and she’s here tonight. I just want to say, “I love you, Mom. Thank you for teaching me to dream.”
Watch Leto’s touching speech, which is getting kudos everywhere…

I don’t know if Leto is pro-life or pro-choice. A pro-abortion quote widely attributed to him was not made by him. Perhaps someone can definitely tell us his abortion position.
But I do know Leto is a fabulous son.

When he started his speech, I SERIOUSLY thought it was Pro-Abortion. I NEVER expected a Hollywood name to say something that even bordered on Anti-Abortion. I think God was there last night, (as He is everywhere) even during Matthew McConaughy’s weird, round about “Thank you God.” I’m still not sure how I feel about that. Something about that last line didn’t sit well with me.
But Darlene Love rocking out “His Eye is on the Sparrow”…WOW.
The conservative site Townhall.com says Leto is pro-choice. His speech was indeed a good one.
McConaughy is getting horrible things said about him today, he must have done something right, even uttering God’s name in a place like that is all it took. He said this in 2008 regarding his son being born:
Matthew explained that Levi is another name for the apostle Matthew in The Bible, and shared that his birth time holds special significance as well.
I remember Cuba Gooding Jr. thanked God in his (wonderful, IMO) Oscar acceptance speech for Jerry Maguire and I didn’t hear or read any complaints about that.
I only tuned in and out and was pleasantly surprised by the tribute to his mom, though i suspected he was really only pro-life in his own situation, due to his peers’ influence.
Hopefully he’ll begin to wish everyone the same chance at a start in life.
I wish he would have finished by stating his true position on the issue so we could have seen how absurd it is.
“I appreciate my mother so much for what she’s done. On the other hand, if she had conceived me two years later, I’m sure like so many others she would have decided that two children would have been too big a burden for a single mom and she would have killed me and i would have supported her choice. Though I’m not exactly sure how I would have done that because I’d be dead. And I obviously wouldn’t have won this trophy.”
“We do all agree though don’t we that moms in a crisis pregnancy like mine should have the right to kill their preborn children, like me.”
“I guess I’m pretty fortunate that I was conceived before 1973.”
And then just walk off the stage.
He was really good in Requiem for a Dream (one of my favorite movies). My ex-wife is obsessed with him lol.
That was a really touching speech.
Meh, I didn’t watch it. I just don’t feel like seeing a bunch of one percenters patting each other on the back.
He pushed gay “marriage” right after that.
Whether or not he is pro-abort, I loved the irony of him giving pro-life testimony to a room full of pro-aborts who tell girls in his mom’s situation that killing their babies is the best choice. They need help and support to be as stong as his mom!!
And prolifers say someone cannot be prochoice but personally against?
Prochoice = it’s up to the woman even if I disagree with abortion.
Who says that people like that don’t exist? I certainly never have. Plenty of pro-choicers don’t seem to like abortion much, and certainly would never have one themselves. I simply don’t agree with them, I think they are wrong to support legal abortion. It’s not a difficult concept, Merit.
Obviously they can Merit.
It is called cognitive dissonance. They cannot connect the dots.
“It is fine if some women do not kill their babies. Cause my mom didn’t and I am alive today to accept this award. But even if she had killed me I wouldn’t have cared cause I wouldn’t have been sentient anyway. Other women should be able to
choose to kill their babies though. The right to kill is very important.”
derrrrrrrrrrrrrr

It’s acceptable for black people to talk about God. Black Christians are loyal Democrats and are therefore no threat whatsoever to white liberals. Besides, it’s viewed as rather quaint.
Ah, phillymiss.
Always telling like it is, sister.
I wont be watching anymore of these awards shows. Heard about the grammys…made me sick. They are just actors but why not keep politics to yourself on a night like that? Hes not cute imo and idk who he is. Well i do now. But if hes a liberal then I wont be watching him in anything anyway. Doug…thanks for exposing him and his true colors.

Heather, you have some really endearing qualities. : ) I am sure your comment put smiles on more faces than just mine.
Seriously, though, if you’re not going to watch any of those gol-darned, cussed ‘liberals’ on TV or in movies, you’re gonna have a might short playlist there….
