Pro-life vid of day: Two lives saved – one amazing story
by Hans Johnson
One of the more inane terms for the youngest, most vulnerable human lives is the flippant “potential lives.” No, they are as human as any of us, and are potential teachers, scientists, nurses, doctors, and paramedics capable of great good that can ripple throughout a society like a splash in a pond.
Thirty years ago a baby boy was born a 3.2 lb. preemie and given a 50/50 chance to survive. His pediatrician, Dr. Michael Shannon, saw him through round the clock observation till he was stable. Flash forward to four years ago when that same doctor was involved in an accident on the Pacific Coast Highway, and was pinned underneath his SUV. Firefighters arrived just as the vehicle caught fire, having to pry him free with the Jaws of Life.
One of the paramedics who saved his life was Chris Trokey who just happened to be that same boy who was nurtured through his early hours 26 years before: “I didn’t know about it until I went to the hospital and started talking about it. ‘Dr. Shannon’. And I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, Dr. Shannon!’ That’s when I found out.” He added, “It’s a great feeling – and now he’s my son’s pediatrician!”
Last Sunday they reunited again to get their heads shaved for a cancer charity fundraiser at St. Baldrick’s.“It’s amazing to watch them all grow up”, Dr. Shannon said, “but to have one come back in your life, on a day you really need it, that’s really incredible!”

That is like a Twilight Zone episode! How amazing.
Wow. What an amazing story. I hope I could do the same for the doctor that saved me when I was a preemie ?
