New Stanek WND column, “Planned Parenthood’s bulletproof glass”

I’ve always thought that portrayals by pro-aborts of pro-lifers as violent abortion mill stalkers must hurt their recruitment drives for abortion mill workers. One reason for the shortage of abortionists has to be that the industry has conditioned the ignorant among them, which, come to think of it, is all of them, to be fearful of us.
But this past month the “pro-lifers are violent!” accusations have been ricocheting off the abortion industry’s bulletproof glass back at it so wildly even I feel like ducking….
How many gazillion times have we heard that line, a key talking point abortion linchpins devised decades ago to indict hundreds of millions of pro-lifers for the .0001 percent who opt for vigilante justice….
But, hey, it’s a label I’ve never minded. So what if the other side thinks I’m liable to draw out my six-shooter if they look at me funny? I would find that power amusing if I knew the ringleaders of the movement really thought that, which they don’t.
Which brings me to three observations from the Aurora Planned Parenthood spectacle….
[T]o reinforce the “pro-lifers are violent” brand, PP built a fortress in Aurora with a security system worthy of Danny Ocean, complete with bulletproof windows, doors and walls, and maybe even snipers on the roof.
But in an ironic twist, this backfired….

Boo Jill!
This was a great column today, telling it like it is. You brought out some important facts about the PP Aurora baby-killing center that are important for all to know.
The first is the point about the bullet-proof glass. If there really were a serious risk of violence, which we know there is not, then why would they not want their next door neighbors to also know this? Surely, even if their neighbors didn’t mind that PP kills babies and ruins women’s bodies and souls, they would want to know if they were being subjected to a possible “war-zone”.
Second, some of PP’s supporters are disgusted and angry with the way PP Chicago area and its CEO in particular, Steve Trombley have handled the whole situation, in regards to his blunders of lying on permit applications, and making stupid and outrageous comments about the peaceful pro-life families of Aurora. (How does he merit earning $300K a year?)
Thirdly, the good pro-life families of Aurora and environs have always outnumbered by a huge ratio the “supporters” (or employees) of PP. It was really silly to watch these supporters at their ‘rally’ last week at city hall, holding up signs that read: “This family supports Planned Parenthood”. To a man, almost all of them were young single women in their late teens and early 20’s, with a few in their 30’s, and some old grey-haired die-hards.
We pro-life citizens are about LIFE! We welcome new life, we love people, children, moms, dads, and especially babies, God’s precious infants, made in His image and likeness. We will defend each other and especially the innocent and vulnerable ones from the attacks of Planned Parenthood, Steve Trombley and all abortionists, politicians and baby-killers.
We will not stop proclaiming the Gospel of Life: Life is a sacred gift of God, our Creator. We cherish and love the life that he gives to us, from the moment of conception until natural death.
Jill…Excellent article (again!)
Paul…Excellent response!
The PP Aurora blogger says:
If you search Google’s blogsearch for “planned parenthood” and “bulletproof glass” there’s over 50 self-righteous blog posts accusing us of “hiding behind” this glass.
A complete fabrication. The author, of course, does not link to a single one of the allgedly “self-righteous” posts, nor can she. While a Google blogsearch for those terms does in fact report 52 results, only approximately half of that number are about the Aurora situation and NONE of them (other than PP Aurora’s blog) contains the alleged “hiding behind” accusation. Rather, virtually all of the posts mention the existence of the bulletproof glass for the limited purpose of explaining how suspicions regarding Planned Parenthood’s involvement first arose. The notion that a gang of pro-life blogs have joined together to “dare” Planned Parenthood workers to come out of “hiding” and subject themselves to (imaginary) violence is a lie.
the whole bulletproof glass thing… I thought PP was the one who first pointed it out, as in “we have bulletproof glass, you should have known we were an abortion clinic”? Wasn’t that their first defense of their lie?
To accuse US of sensationalizxing THEIR dropped PR platform is absurd.
I find your analysis of the constant “violence lie” to be dead on target, and a telling piece of evidence, for any who would choose to look at facts before making a decision on an issue.
With numbers such as you describe, 1,000 to 1, or even 100 to 1, if the vast number are present and in the mindset they are accused of having, I would expect any protest to resemble the Rodney King riots.
The simple fact that what really happens is that a crowd makes it difficult to get to the building without hearing words they might not appreciate, and might have to look at a picture they’d rather not have in their memory, is evidence enough that if you want to see violence on this issue, you have to look at the ones who kill the babies.
From another perspective, if I have to have bulletproof glass in order to keep my business alive, I might need to look at my business and analyze why it would be so.
If I have a bodega downtown in Chicago, the answer for why bulletproof glass is in the gang symbols all over the city. Then the only question is whether it is a profitable venture to do such business at such risk, and only I can make an informed decision about my business.
On the other hand, if I have a business in the middle of a normally quiet neighborhood, with all sorts of businesses next to and adjacent to my own, and I need bulletproof glass, while they don’t, I must then assess why the difference.
If a statistical look is taken, comparing violence around abortion mills, and such violence that occurs in the occasional neighborhood bodega when a robbery goes wrong, I think you’d find the bulletproof glass to be a statement rather than a necessity.
People don’t build hardware stores and grocery stores with their mind full of bulletproof glass and other such defense measures, and based on the real frequency of violence, there is no statistical model that supports a “need” for such measures.
With that in mind, I can only put such things down as deliberate hyperbole to be used as propaganda and enable them to lie through their way on a foundation of falsehood. That is directly in line with every other aspect of communication that is done by Planned Parenthood, which has routinely used hyperbole, and vastly inflated claims to attempt to gain the high ground in the debate.
John M., very good analysis and comparison between a PP baby-killing mill in a peaceful suburb to a bodega in an inner-city neighborhood.
I had to look up the definition of “bodega” and found from Miriam Webster online:
1) a storehouse for maturing wine;
2) a : WINESHOP b (1): BAR (2) : BARROOM;
3) a usually small grocery store in an urban area; specifically: one specializing in Hispanic groceries.
PP’s use of bullet-proof glass in their “fortress of death” is a statement and an admission that they don’t want the citizens of Aurora to know what they do behind those blood-stained walls. It is also an attempt to vilify all good pro-life people.
Somewhat related, yesterday while being a witness to the opening of the PP baby-killing center, I had the idea:
PP Aurora needs to have an “Open House” for the community, so that Aurorans can see for themselves the great, new “full-service healthcare center” PP has built. Why don’t they do that? It’s taxpayer supported. It’s not-for-profit. Then let the taxpayers see what their tax dollars have paid for.
Paul,
They didn’t even let their official blogger Veronica have a tour.
Open and above board is not in their vocabulary.
Your fantasies about bulletproof glass not being necessary because you are nonviolent protesters are misguided. Planned Parenthood’s clinics are not the only facilities that provide abortion that use bulletproof glass and security measures. These things aren’t cheap, and they weren’t done on a whim or to win some kind of PR point. Like or not, there are quite a few recorded incidents of violence, including gun violence, against doctors and staff of abortion clinics.
Unlike Jill’s fictional google results, if you google “violence abortion providers” you will see plenty of results from lots of sites, many of them mainstream press. To cite one, from MSNBC: “There were 1700 acts of violence against abortion providers between 1977 and 1994, with four people killed in 1994 and one in 1993, according to statistics …”
You nice people waving large pictures of late term abortions in our faces may consider yourselves benevolent, but there are plenty of crackpots out there brandishing guns. If I worked at a women’s health clinic, I’d want bulletproof glass, too.
Ray, do you have anything more recent than 13 years ago? Just asking….
Ray, I’d like to see all 1,700 reports in their entirety of the claimed violence at abortion killing-centers. Can you provide these reports? How about 100 of the most egregious ones. A blanket statement by a liberal MSM source like MSNBC doesn’t prove or verify anything. Real police documentation would be another thing.
Unlike Jill’s fictional google results . . .
Ray, what “fictional google results” are you refering to?
Milehi,
Veronica didn’t get a free tour? Wonder why not.
I still think the people of Aurora, especially the parents of Aurora should demand to see the inside of that place.
I was speaking with Ald. Rick Lawrence last night and he encouraged us to keep coming and speaking to the City Council, and bringing up all of our concerns to the mayor and aldermen. There are many concerns about this baby-killing center in addition to the babies they intend to kill.
For example:
1) How will they dispose of the human remains? Through industrial garbage disposals into the public sewer system and hence the public water supply??
2) Through incineration in an onsite crematorium, thus polluting the air with human dust and smoke over the neighborhood?
3) Through the sale of body parts to research laboratories at universities and other places?
4) Through biological waste disposal companies?
5) Will PP be constantly monitored in reporting pregnancies in underage girls, who by the fact they are pregnant may have been involved in non-consensual sexual assault?
There are many legal and safety issues that can and must be brought up to Mayor Weisner, Alayne Weingartz and the Aurora City Council. We will not let these issues go unanswered and unaddressed by these manipulators who think we will just shut-up and go away.
Has anyone conducted an inspection of the facilities, to ensure that the whole no surgical abortion/late term thing they agree to is going to be honored?
Shouldn’t the health department get involved at some point since they are providing medical services at their medical clinic/nonmedical clinic?
From the PP Aurora blog, posted by Veronica:
I didn’t get a full tour of the facility…This facility kicks a**. It was built with the utmost of privacy in mind. The recovery rooms are private. This along with great security will allow for a woman’s loved one to meet her in recovery after an abortion.
Bottomline, this is exactly the type of clinic that all those TRAP laws demand.
It’s awesome being in this clinic
So I guess she was there but didn’t look around but did see the recovery rooms except when she wasn’t taking a full tour. But it apparently rocks.
LOVE that her link to TRAP laws is a link to uninformative propaganda that doesn’t actually detail what the TRAP laws are. Just that they are very bad for PP.
Anyway. I’m a rubbernecker on that blog… I just can’t help myself but to wonder why they didn’t hire someone to write it, or at least accept a volunteer that was competent.
>Ray, do you have anything more recent than 13 years ago? Just asking….
What, like just because there might not have been recent incidents, we should let our guard down? How about an attempted bombing this past April?
http://www.splcenter.org/intel/intelreport/article.jsp?aid=833
Here is a nice list of incidents as of 2005:
http://www.prochoice.org/about_abortion/violence/history_extreme.asp
And a nice chart of stats downloadable here lists assault & battery from this year and death threats from last year. Is that recent enough for you?
>A blanket statement by a liberal MSM source like MSNBC doesn’t prove or verify anything.
Oh come on! MSNBC is liberal? What news source isn’t too liberal for you, Fox “News”?
Whoops, that PDF is here, unless something is filtering it:
http://www.prochoice.org/about_abortion/violence/violence_statistics.html
Actually, Sean Hannity is a little too liberal for me.
Since you asked.
Umm Jill … Where did you get this .0001% stat?
If that is true, then I must have met almost all of them. What we have to remember is the number indicted isn’t nearly as large as the number who advocate violent defensive action.
In fact, I saw a stat back in the 1990s that siad that 19% of Americans are pro-life without the exceptions and about 3-5% believe that violence can sometimes be justified in stopping child murder. I was kind of shocked that it is that large, but that’s been my experience with pro-lifers. At least 10-20% of us don’t wince at violence even though most would never go that far.
I am for peaceful resistance in all case, however, I didn’t come to this conclusion lightly.
If abortion is murder, then what is the most extreme response (that is still lawful in the eyes of God) that we are permitted to use? In fact, other analogies don’t serve the nonviolent conclusion well.
For instance, how far would you go in liberating a train load of Jews from being delivered to a concentration camp. Would you blow up a bridge? Murder an S.S. guard? Or would you write a letter to the Reichstag in protest?
This is a conversation most are afraid to have, but we need to have it.
The main reason I am against violence is that it is counter-productive, and I believe that God has a better plan. But I don’t think that deadly force in defense of life is wrong in all cases. If that were true, I’d be a war pacifist and against the death penalty as well.
I’ll go this far, I’d say that if abortionists are fearful, it is fitting that murderers should be fearful.
“Actually, Sean Hannity is a little too liberal for me.
Since you asked.”
I just died a little inside.
Ray,
There are approximately 70,000 incidents of arson per year. Your “nice list of incidents” from the hardly unbiased National Abortion Federation claims there were about 50 directed at clinics over the past ten years. Barely any details are provided and in most cases the crime “remains open” or was committed by a juvenile. So to the extent the stats aren’t meaningless on the question of pro-life violence, they demonstrate that there’s comparatively very little of it.
And again, what “fictional google results” were you refering to in your earlier comment?
I guess I should clarify – he’s a little too conservative on some things, a little to liberal on others, and a whole lotta “I drank the Bush koolaid”. Or at least he was last time I gave him the time of day, which was about a year ago.
Can’t stand Rush either. My current go-to guy on the radio? Glenn Beck.
At least the local Chicago Fox News has had the least biased coverage on the Aurora story. Last night they presented both sides fairly, allowing comments from Trombley and Eric Scheidler, as well as a few from Weisner. The other MSM TV net affiliates did not give as much time, or presented only the PP side, including WGN, Chicago’s big, Tribune-owned independent.
My favorite conservative radio talkshow hostess with the mostess is Laura Ingraham. She rocks.
Raver,
I am not saying that this is violence by pro-lifers, I am saying that there is violence against clinics, at least enough that precautions against it are not unwarranted. Death threats and assault & battery aren’t violence?
Re the fictional google results, I misread. But it is hyperbole to say, “A complete fabrication. The author, of course, does not link to a single one of the allgedly “self-righteous” posts, nor can she.” There are, in fact, quite a few blog posts that mention the bulletproof glass in the context of how the construction of the clinic was “discovered.” Many of these quote the same original few stories. Such is the nature of the web and blogs.

Oh LOVE HER!
But I don’t get her here and don’t remember to listen online.
Ray,
You’re kidding right? Two arsons in the entire country in 2005?
And only one or two were shown to be done by someone claiming to be pro-life.
One guy, also set fire to three synagogues. The other seven were committed by 3 guys.
I’m sorry bro, but this is silly. I’ve seen the list of “violent acts” perpetrated by the prolife groups, and 99% of them consist of picketing…oooh scary!
Try again.
I love Michael Medved. He’s one of the most devout Catholics on radio. Except of course for the small fact, that he’s Jewish. Details!
Is Dr.Laura still on? I never cared for her moralizing and lecturing. Weren’t some nude pictures of her taken by her boyfriend on the internet? Unless they’re posing for a magazine, why are women stupid enough to have nude pictures take of them?????
Of course abortion profiteers are cowards; who else deliberately, repeatedly tortures weaker, smaller people to death, but won’t take responsibility for the injuries they cause women, and doesn’t want the public to see what they really do?
For a saner perspective on abortion-related violence than you will ever get from any pro-aborts, see abortionviolence.com

Unbelieveable but true.
Just a few incidents of violence by abortionists:
Prominent Oklahoma City abortionist John Baxter Hamilton was having an affair with a topless dancer he had aborted, and his wife was considering leaving him. On Valentine’s Day 2001, Hamilton choked his wife with a necktie, beat her over the head with a heavy blunt object hard enough to smash a hole in her skull, and then slammed her face repeatedly onto the floor.
In 1993, pro-abortion activist Eileen Orstein Janezic murdered pro-life activist minister and radio talk show host Jerry Simon in Huntsville, Alabama. After killing Simon, she held police at bay with a pistol for six hours while spouting quotes from Anton LaVey’s “Satanic Bible.”
April 1988. An abortionist from Cherry Hill Women’s Center ran over pro-lifer George Krail twice with his car.
>You’re kidding right? Two arsons in the entire country in 2005?
Do you hear yourself? You who are so concerned with the sanctity of life? Any more than zero abortion clinic arsons per year is cause for concern, and I am sure your local fire department would agree.
Incidentally, how many of your “CPC”s, of which I understand there are more than there are abortion clinics, were arsoned in the same period? Got a statistic for that?
>And only one or two were shown to be done by someone claiming to be pro-life.
Again, my point isn’t that there is violence by so-called “pro-lifers”, but that there is violence against abortion clinics.
Ray,
Again, my point isn’t that there is violence by so-called “pro-lifers”, but that there is violence against abortion clinics.
Well, then why didn’t ya say so?
Even so, 2 arsons in a year? (Again, I’m not saying arson is good, just that 2 in the entire country hardly warrants bulletproof glass…which, last time I checked does nothing to prevent fires)
How many shootings have there been? I had a gun pulled on me by a pro choicer at a protest once. Maybe I should get myself a popemobile?
Silliness aside, I think the issue is that if the fear of bullets flying is a legitimate one, which you claim it is, then shouldn’t the people of Aurora be privy to that bit of info BEFORE the bullet magnet goes up in their neighborhood?
Ray,
Here’s some attacks on CPC’s:
Louisville, KY — Employees of Kentucky Right to Life found spray-painted profanity across the front of the building containing their office yesterday — the third act of vandalism there since Jan. 22, they said.

Police in four Bay Area cities are investigating overnight graffiti attacks on four clinics that counsel women about alternatives to abortions.
Pregnancy Choices Clinic Counseling Care also received a bomb threat at 10:50 a.m. yesterday, just a few hours after the graffiti was discovered. Workers at the clinic and surrounding buildings were evacuated for about an hour while police searched for a bomb, but none was found, Van Putten said.
HAH! THIS GUY BURNED HIS OWN CLINIC FOR INSURANCE
ABORTION CLINIC OWNER, SUSPECTED ARSONIST, ADMITS FRAUD
By Paul Likoudis
The Wanderer
Thursday, December 3, 1998
Right in the middle of a coordinated media campaign to vilify America’s pro-life citizens as bombers, arsonists, and murderers, a Miami businessman pleaded guilty Oct. 28th in federal court in Trenton, N.J., to committing insurance fraud and authorizing unsafe medical practices at an abortion facility he owned here.
Alan I. Weisberg, who will be sentenced on Jan. 29th, could face up to one year in jail and fines equal to double the amount for which he bilked five insurance companies and health maintenance organizations.
Weiselberg, who remains the prime suspect in the April 22nd, 1991 arson of his Woodbridge, N.J. clinic, which caused more than $500,000 worth of damage, was not charged with the arson because the statute of limitations on the blaze had expired.
As local writer Rick Malwitz observed in a Nov. 8th newspaper column: “There was never any evidence that linked the fire to anyone in the pro-life movement, according to persons involved in the investigation.”
A Hasbrouck Heights woman who received death threats because she helped women with pregnancy counseling and prenatal assistance won the landmark ruling when U.S. District Judge Maryanne Trump Barry said she deserved the same protection against violence the federal government guarantees to employees of abortion facilities.
AND THIS GUY CALLED IN HIS OWN BOMB THREATS!
A documented incident in Los Angeles several years ago showed that Frank Mandiola called several abortion clinics and pro-choice leaders — including himself — with bomb threats. When caught, he was presented by the newspaper as being a poor confused dear who had caused a lot of problems but whose heart was in the right place, since he was wanting to have the media come down harder on prolifers. The idea that this was a slander against prolifers didn’t occur to the court or to the reporter. To the contrary, the reporter was quick to say there was some truth in what he was doing, since the media had paid attention in other parts of the country. (Los Angeles Times, December 10, 1987).
