Lunch Break: “Your Word” by Yor Bro Ken
by Bethany Kerr
Commenter Yor Bro Ken emailed me the other day sharing a beautiful song he had written. Ken wrote:

I am not a song writer, but the LORD gave me this song. I got the chord progression first. Then over the span of a few days I got the chorus. Still later as I was reading the bible I came across this passage:
1Thes 2:13
And we will never stop thanking God that when we preached his message to you, you didn’t think of the words we spoke as being just our own. You accepted what we said as the very word of God which, of course, it was. And this word continues to work in you who believe. (NLT)…
I did not remember ever having read it. I realized Paul was not referring to the “Bible” when he spoke of the “Word of God” “that continues to work in us who believe,” because the Bible had not yet been compiled. Paul was talking about the work of the Holy Spirit. I knew then the song was also a work of the Holy Spirit.
I hope that you will be blessed by listening to Ken’s song, as I was. I asked his permission to publish it. He is very talented! (Ken’s son, Kaz, played the accompaniment on the lead guitar, so the talent apparently runs in the family!)
Here are the words to the song:
As the rain and the snow fall from heaven to earth,
And water the seed and bring it to birth,
So the Word of the Lord shall prosper in me,
Accomplishing His purpose in me.
Your Word oh Lord is good for me,
Your Word oh Lord at work in me.
Like a mighty river flowing to the sea,
Your Word at work is good for me.
Oh Holy Spirit You intercede for me,
For me whom You love and You called to be,
According to Your purpose,Your purpose for me,
That the image of the Son of God be formed in me.
Your Word oh Lord is good for me,
Your Word oh Lord at work in me,
Both to will and to do, Your pleasure in me.
Perfecting Your will, Your will in me.
Your grace is sufficient, sufficient for me,
In Christ I lack nothing, You supply all I need;
Above and beyond what I can believe,
Exceedingly more than I can conceive.
Your Word oh Lord is good for me,
Your Word oh Lord at work in me,
Like a mighty river flowing to the sea,
Your Word at work is good for me.

Oh is that Ken? So nice to see a pic of you!
Ken, Very nice song! Thank you for sharing!
Awesome.
Thnak you.
Wonderful, Ken!! Thank you so much!!
Thanks Ken. Very nicely done!
Sounds like a worship song.
Nice job Ken!
Thanks for sharing.
Ken, very nice..
You’re very talented!
Thanks Ken, very edifying.
Ken, that was awesome!! Nice to see you!
Ken, that was very nice to listen to! Would you mind if I saved a copy of it on my computer? I won’t be hurt if you say no; I understand completely. I know that if anyone had a recording of me singing I’d hunt them down and destroy all evidence, but you appear to have no need for that. ;)
It is nice to put a face to your comments, too!
I like the song! Sounds as good as any music by professional musicians.
Don’t know if you’ve heard about this, but I’m posting it just in case:

I just got it..your Bro Ken!
“I just got it..your Bro Ken! ”
Haha. It took me a really long time too, Heather.
Oh Holy Spirit You intercede for me,
For me whom You love and You called to be,
According to Your purpose,Your purpose for me,
That the image of the Son of God be formed in me.
This verse touched me the most. The whole song is beautiful though. Wow.
Thanks for the encouragement.
I pray the ‘WORD’, who inhabits our praise continues to work in you, especially you who believe in HIM.

Chris, thanks for the link.
Alexandra, The song was a gift to me. If I share it, I will not have any less of it. If I hoard it, it will benefit only me. Freely I have received and freely I give.
My number two daughter loves to sing. Once at at gathering of fellow believers, she sang a song for a good friend of mine. Later someone came to her and asked her if she would sing the song again. She said no. That song was for James.
Sometimes, special gifts are not be shared with everyone. Like the love between a husband and a wife.
Ken, it’s nice that you’ve got a good voice, and it isn’t half bad a song, but the problem is that you act like such an unloving jerk on this board. I know I’m not perfect, but the stunning disconnect between the faith you profess, the faith you sing about and the utter rampant disrespect, mockery and disdain you show for those you disagree with is just beyond the pale.
The song speaks of great principles that most people can agree with, but your conduct is so unprincipled and arrogant that it makes the song almost humorous to those who have been victims of your ire on this board. I know that God loves you, but most of the time you act like you’re the only one God ever loved and ever will. Remember man, jesus sits at the right hand of the father, the rest of us are lucky to be sitting at his feet, myself, and yourself included.
I wish you all the best in the world, I just wish that you had as much goodwill towards your fellow man as you expressed in your song.
YoLa,
If you hadn’t already proven yourself to be full of crap your opinion might mean something.
And the award for Outstanding Hypocrite of the Year goes to ***drum roll*** Yo la Tengo!

You may think Im a hypocrite, but you never said I was wrong.
YLT, okay. You are wrong.
YLT,

This is a side of you I have not seen. Thank you. I appreciate it, and I am truly sorry from the bottom of my heart for the times I have been snarky to you and lost my temper with you. God love you.
Though let me quickly add, YLT, that I think you are mistaken about Ken.
The impulse to be uncivil, rude, snarky and a bit extreme is a well known hazard of the internet. When we spend enough time here, however, we get to know the more human and decent side of the regulars. I hope none of us are judged by our worst comments or unkindest moments.
THat said, I still find that the tone of a few regulars is consistently over the top and unproductive. Doesn’t bother me, I know the ground rules when I log on.

YLT,
If we were ‘discussing’ fiscal policy or taste in music, or tattoos and body piercings, that would be one thing.
I could disagree with you and still respect both you and your perspective.
We are discussing the humanity and personhood of the prenatal child.
You have staked out your position unambiguously and unapologetically.
Logic and reason argue against you.
The ‘book’ argues against you.
The ONE who gives you breath argues against you.
You seem to have an incomplete understanding of who Jesus is. You see HIM as a limp wristed effeminate vegan wimp who would never harm a hair on creations head.
I suggest you read through the gospels and highlight every place Jesus indicted HIS critics.
There was that one incident where HE took the time to braid individual cords into a scourge to drive the den of thieves out of the only place in the temple that was accessible to gentiles.
When you have finished with that assignment we can do a little word search in the OT prophets and see how they used scorn, ridicule and mockery to indict unethical and immoral people.
My personal favorites:
‘Where is your god? Did he have to go behind a bush to relieve himself? Did he require a nap?’
or
‘I will laugh at your calamity when it comes upon you.’
Even knowing that the people were forewarned, but disobeyed anyway, that seems a little ‘insensitive’ to me, kind of like kicking your enemy afer he is down.
But I did not write the ‘book’.
yor bro ken
Just listened to the song again. Very comforting.
Ken – your continued your ranting and raving only serves as a great distraction for the work of liberals. Thanks for volunteering to be a tool for change!
Beautiful song!
Never have I ever gotten the impression that ken “rants” and “raves”. It is actually quite the opposite — he is quite civil, candid, knowledgeable and logical.

ylt,
All I ask is that you give me attribution and that you spell my name correctly.
The ‘truth’ is a powerful thing.
Even when you disagree with it.
Even when it makes you mad, it will still liberate you.
The fact that ‘truth’ annoys you is an indication that you are close to hearing the ‘pop’ that will be coincidental with your liberation.

Eileen#2,
Thanks for your encouragement.
YLT is partially correct in her observations about my posts.
There have been times where I have indulged in bad mouthing liberals and humanists in a general sense.
I do not believe I have singled out a particular poster by name to say that they are stupid or fools or evil or wicked, thought liberalism does evidence those symptoms.
But speaking directly and refusing to submit to the rules of ‘political correctness’ are ‘hate speech’ to liberals when you are talking about them and their concepts.
It is perfectly acceptable to liberals to say all manner of nasty, tacky and many times false things about conservatives.
Suggest you watch the video from the White House Correspondants Association Dinner to get a good example what liberals approve of for political discourse and humor.
Rahm Israel Immanuel and Barrak Hussein Obama combined produce a synergistic evil energy that is greater than total of the two individuals.
What a demonic duo. Barrakman and his boy wonder Rahmbin.
“Leaping lesbians Barrakman, someone has broken into the Barrakcave and stolen the batteries out of the Barrakmobile.”
