House votes to cut off ACORN funding
See how easy this is? The obvious comparison to ACORN would be Planned Parenthood, of which undercover videos and audios – many made by the “pimp” in the ACORN sting, James O’Keefe – have revealed equally scandalous behavior. But PP still has a giant stranglehood over congressional power brokers.
From The Hill, this afternoon:
House Republicans won a rare victory on Thursday when the lower chamber voted to defund the embattled community organizing group known as ACORN.
In a vote of 345-75-2, the House approved a resolution to deny funds for the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now that has been accused of committing major crimes including voter fraud….
Republicans are pushing for more measures to block federal funding from going to ACORN, the community organizing group and top target of conservatives….
Sen. Mike Johanns (R-NE) has sponsored another amendment prohibiting the use of federal money for ACORN in the Interior and environment appropriations bills. The vote on the amendment is expected to take place Thursday afternoon.
Earlier this week, a Johanns amendment banning federal cash for the group in the Transportation and Housing and Urban Development spending bill passed the Senate by a 83-7 vote….
Democrats are largely on board with the new amendments. Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) suggested to Johanns that his latest amendment be approved by unanimous consent, which would mean that it would pass without a recorded vote….
But Johanns insisted on a roll call vote….
He said he’ll introduce a stand-alone bill that would block any federal money at all, whether from a spending bill or other government program, from going to the group.
Amanda Carpenter tweeted GOP Congressman Darrell Issa’s reminder, “The battle, however, to deny ACORN federal funding is not over until the President signs the bill into law.”

I would like to see a list of the 75 Congressmen/women who think that smuggling children into the US for a prostitution ring is A-OK by them. They need to be voted out ASAP!

Thanks for the link, beachrat. I don’t know how Betty McCollum doesn’t choke on her hypocrisy. She authored HR 2103, a bill to protect young girls from being given in marriage as teens, her quote:
“Every year in poor countries, millions of girls – preteens and teens – become the wives of older men…This custom is not marriage, but rather sanctioned sexual abuse and a human rights violation that destroys girls’ lives.”

Here in Illinois we had BOTH of our senators–Burris and Durbin–vote to support the child abusers. 2010 cannot get here fast enough.

Analysis of the House ACORN vote

“The 75 districts represented by members who voted against defunding ACORN delivered an average majority of 72%-26% for Barack Obama.
Only two of those districts, represented by West Virginia Democrats Alan Mollohan and Nick Joe Rahall, voted for John McCain.
By my count,
29 of those districts are represented by members of the Congressional Black Caucus
and 7 districts by members of the Hispanic Caucus.
The 11 districts of those not voting averaged 54%-45% for Obama
and the 2 districts of those voting present averaged 77%-23% for Obama.
By my calculation, that means the average vote in the districts of the 345 members who voted to defund ACORN was about 50%-48% for McCain.
As indicated by members’ votes, mainstream America was clearly repulsed by the facts that “mainstream media” tried to conceal.”

Jimmy Carter was right.
There are racists in America.
But most to the racists are not white and most of them are not republicans.
Black congress persons who voted not to defund ACORN made up more than 25% of the no vote. Add in the the 7 hispanic congress persons and they acount for nearly 50% of the men and women who are so morally and ethically challenged they can overlook child prostitution.
The bottom line is all 75 were democ-RATS.
