Mitt Romney pokes fun at prolific sons
Mitt Romney, a sheen of sweat on his brow, is rolling meatballs and chopping broccoli for six ravenous grandchildren (he has 16 total) gathered this Sunday afternoon at the Belmont, MS, home of one of his five grown sons.
“When your children have kids like rabbits,” the presidential contender jokes with all the naughtiness he can muster, “then their children eat like rabbits.”

That picture is CUTE!
“breed like rabbits”? Blech. Romney gags me more and more.
Romney’s a pompous jerk, and everything he says and does sheds light on the lie of his “pro-life conversion”. $50 copays for abortion IS NOT PRO-LIFE.
Romney, your 2012 nominee!
Not mine. Herman Cain for president. :D
Poor Cain is down to a 2.6% chance (on Intrade) – Romney at 63% – Newt at about 16%.
I think Cain’s got to show well in Iowa and get a few extreme right candidates to drop out (Perry, Bachmann) – then he might have a chance of sticking in it a while.
Uhhh… I don’t get his math. with five sons of his own and sixteen grandchildren, that’s an average of just more than three each. But Mitt himself had five? Who is the “rabbit” in this picture?
Okay, I’m opening myself up to ridicule from X and well… X but I am leaning towards Ron Paul.
Sydney, I’d take Paul over Romney. We’re in the same boat, I’m afraid. ;)
Romney is NOT my choice….I don’t trust him……he could fool everyone like Bob Casey Jr did claiming he was pro life when he ran for Senator, and making people think he was like his father Bob Casey, SR….and it turned out he wasn’t.
I dig Ron Paul…not his stances on most things, but he reminds me a lot of Paul Wellstone in that, I feel that he truly believes in what he says, and he follows his passion. Most politicians say what is popular and try to do what is popular. Paul (like Wellstone), stated their positions, and you were either on board or not. So I like when Paul mixes it up with the other candidates – the rest of them sound like a bunch of me-too talking heads…he has a smart mind and is different. Again, a lot of his policies are crazy – but it is nice to see some different views on the table.
On Intrade – Paul has less of a chance than Huntsman…
I guess I’m the only one who thought his comment was cute?
Must be all of those boys, Jill!! :)
I thought the comment and the picture were cute.
I’m anti-broccoli, but even more anti-Obama. :)
I thought it was cute, too. Seemed like a harmless joke–my family pokes fun at each other like that all the time.
I’m not all that impressed with Romney as a politician, but I like this picture. Lucky them to have so many grandchildren!
I don’t find it offensive, just awkward in a way. I don’t really think of having kids “like rabbits” as having a positive connotation, not really for the amount but just for the implication of animal behavior, no rational thought or impulse control involved, etc, that sort of thing. And I guess I’ve only heard “eat like a rabbit” to mean eat very little, usually allegedly unsubstantial food. People used to always tell me I ate like a rabbit – or a bird sometimes – both because I loved vegetables above all else, and I just kind of nibbled at things. So I guess all this seems to say to me is: when you have a ton of kids, they don’t eat very much. Which doesn’t really seem like an awesome thing.
I’m sure I’m just reading it wrong, because I find it really hard to believe that Romney would say that about his family. But it just seems kind of off, as an extended metaphor. I like the intent I am sure is behind it and the picture, though, and I like men who actively take part in the caring for and nourishing of their families!
Guess it wasn’t harmless, but I really tend to not like the man. He seems quite smooth and oily to me.
I’m definitely a Ron Paul fan… :) He really is a family man. I tend to respect a man who keeps his family separate from politics more. It seems like Romney’s just trying to “connect” with the family crowd. I don’t know. Like I said, I tend to have an inherent distrust of politicians. Especially knowing that Romney isn’t pro-life… it’s kind of disturbing.
Nothing sexier than a dad who loves his wife and kids.
Alexandra: And I guess I’ve only heard “eat like a rabbit” to mean eat very little, usually allegedly unsubstantial food.
Yeah, he should have said, “eat like horses,” or “eat like pigs.”
Jill Stanek: “I guess I’m the only one who thought his comment was cute?”
I didn’t necessarily see it as derogatory. And I like rabbits.
the picture is cute as all get out.Sorry not voting for any of the above love my freedom to much to actually have much in common here ,but had to say he does seem to really love and cherish his family.which wins him big props as far as i am concerned.that said would not vote for and did not vote for anyone who thinks that they should be allowed to change laws in order to force law abiding U.S. Citizens to do as they say and not as their own conscience guides them.It is ugly whem muslims do it but at least they dont even try to claim to believe in american values.
