No lawmaker or administration can support such a policy change and still claim to support “reducing abortions.”
~ Cardinal Justin Rigali of Philadelphia, chairman of the U.S. bishops’ Committee on Pro-Life Activities and representative of the Archdiocese of Washington, expressing opposition in late June to a provision in President Barack Obama’s 2010 budget that would permit taxpayer funding of abortions in DC, as quoted by The Catholic Spirit, July 1

Funding abortion certainly adds fuel to the fire. Do you give beer money to an alcoholic? Matches to an arsonist? Why give money to an abortion-seeking-woman if you want to reduce abortion?
Instead of enabling abortion, why not give money to Pregnancy Resource Centers which provide support to pregnant women and their families? Women can raise their babies instead of killing them at an abortuary. In a way, abortion unfairly discriminates against the poor who have fewer options.
