It is an honor to be able to contribute to Jill’s frankly devastating critique of T. Russell Hunter’s performance in his “Immediatist vs Incrementalist debate against Gregg Cunningham.

Late in the debate (timestamps 1:05:10 to 1:07:04), Hunter made the following claim: Christians are not practicing activism at abortion clinics because they don’t trust in the power of God, they trust in incremental legislation.

During cross-examination  (timestamps 1:41:32 to 1:44:56), Hunter made the same accusation, adding pastors and churches, and asked if Cunningham agreed.

Cunningham rebutted that while he agreed churches aren’t doing enough to combat abortion, it is not the fault of incremental legislation. Incremental legislation is a good thing.

Rather, Cunnngham observed:

In the span of two years, the number of abortion clinics in Texas has dropped from 44 to 17, with the possibility of another drop to seven, pending a 5th Circuit panel’s decision on whether the state can impose clinic regulations on abortion clinics and force abortionists to have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals.

• Live Action News dissects Planned Parenthood’s 2012 annual report, which shows that the organization performed 327,166 abortions – allowing them to maintain their “largest abortion chain” status:
  

  For taxpayers who don’t want to fund abortions, this should be especially troubling, considering that Planned Parenthood is raking in a whopping $540.6 million in taxpayer funding, or $1.5 million per day. This accounts for 45% of their revenue. Compare that to their other sources of revenue — private contributions, 26%; non-government revenue, 25%; and “other”, 4% — and it is overwhelmingly clear why the abortion industry fights to keep organizations like Planned Parenthood on the government dole. Without taxpayers to leech off of, Planned Parenthood alone would lose half a billion dollars.

Albuquerque voters will today decide the fate of an initiative that would ban abortions past 20 weeks in their city.

Should the ban pass, a lawsuit to block it is certain. What happens after that is anything but. New ground in the fight to stop abortion is being broken.

What sets ABQ’s 20-week abortion ban apart, of course, is it’s a local, not state ban. Thirteen states have now passed similar bans. Three are currently enjoined as they work their way through the courts.

Early voting on the first local ban in the country on abortions past 20 weeks began in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on October 30. It will run until November 15, with Election Day on November 19.

Albuquerque is currently a late-term abortion magnet, as it is home to abortionist Curtis Boyd’s Southwestern Women’s Options, where elective abortions are committed “through 28 weeks” and “later” for maternal/fetal indications.

This ban would set a dangerous precedent for abortion supporters. They are already fighting a losing battle in their attempts to extinguish pro-life fires among the states, but their troubles would grow exponentially were they also forced to deal with hundreds or thousands of local municipalities.

As desperate abortion proponents employ the “run around the country like chickens with their heads cut off” strategy to try to stop unprecedented pro-life legislative advances in the states, they should know those advances are on the cusp of exponentially exploding to local municipalities.
