Campbell Brown in NYT: “Planned Parenthood’s self-destructive behavior”

Former NBC and CNN news anchor Campbell Brown penned a New York Times op ed over the weekend entitled, “Planned Parenthood’s self-destructive behavior.”

With such a favorable title, pro-lifers might be tempted to glam on to Brown as one of us. Not so fast.

Before lodging her complaint against Planned Parenthood, Campbell first gave it kudos. She promoted the United States’ largest abortion provider as really not being about that, stating, “Most of Planned Parenthood’s work focuses on health care for low-income women, things like screenings for breast cancer and diabetes, and family planning.”

To back up that claim Campbell parroted Planned Parenthood’s line that “abortions represent only 3 percent of its work,” when in actuality about 10% of Planned Parenthood clients get abortions, according to FactCheck.org, and 38.4% of its clinic income comes from abortion, according to Live Action.

Campbell also acknowledged in her piece she is pro-abortion.

So what was her gist? That Planned Parenthood has morphed into an arm of the Democrat Party, to its detriment:

As HHS Secretary, top Romney advisor ordered enforcement of Born Alive Act

Politico reported yesterday that former Utah governor and Secretary of Health and Human Services Michael Leavitt “is the most important figure in Mitt Romney’s campaign you may have never heard of,” adding Leavitt “has been tapped to head Romney’s transition process” and is being buzzed about by insider Republicans as Romney’s potential chief-of-staff.

My eyes lit up when seeing Leavitt’s name. Leavitt gave me the best birthday present ever when on April 22, 2005, as President George W. Bush’s HHS secretary, he issued a memo ordering that the Born Alive Infants Protection Act be “aggressively enforce[d]”:

“Vote Pro-Life” mobile billboard campaign to roll into battleground states

Created Equal has identified nine election year battleground states and plans, in conjunction with Operation Rescue, to launch a voter education Truth Truck tour utilizing huge mobile billboards showing images of aborted babies in at least seven of those states: Florida, Iowa, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. Colorado and Nevada will be added as funding permits.

(Interestingly, Politico listed the underlined states in its piece today, “Obama’s seven states of gay marriage grief.”)

Created Equal’s 2012 “Vote Pro-Life” mobile billboard project will launch this month and run through Election Day:

  • Vanessa Williams said this about her abortion in an interview with a Fox affiliate:

Who knows how life would have been different? I think the bottom line is I definitely would have been where I am now even if I’d gone down another path. It doesn’t take away from the drive or the talent. You can make your life whatever you want with or without a child.

  • Apparently, Politico has no understanding of what an apology is. From Sarah Silverman, this clearly isn’t one:

In her apology, Silverman tweeted:”It wasn’t funny for me to talk so casually about abortion. But when they take our right to choose away it will be HILARIOUS!” And: “The government should STAY OUT of our PRIVATE LIVES except when it comes to who we marry & what we do w our uteruses!!”

Stanek Sunday funnies: “Broccoli” edition

I noticed a recurring theme when reviewing political cartoons this week. Liberals apparently did not appreciate Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia’s comparison of the healthcare mandate to forced purchasing of broccoli…

New Stanek poll: How will the Supreme Court rule on Obamacare?

Poll 2.pngI have a new poll question up:

How do you think the U.S. Supreme Court will rule on Obamacare?

Politico posted a piece today detailing six ways the Supremes might go. I have listed those as options in the poll on the lower right side of the home page.

The majority of you got the last question right: “How many states do you think are down to one abortion clinic?”

Stanek weekend question: Do you think Obamacare will survive?

On Monday the U.S. Supreme Court will begin hearing an unprecedented three days of oral arguments in a lawsuit brought forth by 26 states, the National Federation of Independent Businesses, and four small businesses challenging the constitutionality of the two-yr-old Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

The lawsuit alleges that forcing individuals to buy health insurance and forcing states to expand Medicaid benefits are both unconstitutional.

Meanwhile, Obamacare isn’t faring well politically. Politico posted a must read article yesterday, “5 things Dems got wrong on health care,” vindicating conservative opposition to Obamacare:
