How do you feel about aborting an eptopic pregnancy? These are almost always fatal to the child, but in 14 cases the child has been documented to survive in its mother’s liver. Do you feel that aborting the pregnancy (for without doing so, the mother will almost certainly die) is inexcusable?
Samantha, abortion to save the life of the mother has always been legal.
It is also permissable morally to save one life of two which will both die if action isn’t taken.
In the case of ectopic pregnancy, the baby will certainly die. The mother will also die if her tube isn’t removed with the baby in it.

Jill is correct. Abortion has always been legal to save the life of the mother. Thankfully in this day and age, with modern medical care and technology, it rarely comes down to the life of the mother versus that of the baby. An ectopic pregnancy in the fallopian tube, where most occur, is a life threatening situation and must be removed. There is no chance for the baby to survive, and every likelihood the mother will die. I have seen and cared for I don’t know how many women in this situation, and surgery was ALWAYS immediately performed. It is a life and death situation and is ALWAYS treated as such.
The cases of the baby surviving on, not in , the liver are extremely rare and have often been confused for normal pregnancies, especially in the days prior to ultrasound.
I’ve never heard of an eptopic pregnancy ever surviving. Is it possible?
No. The fallopian tube will rupture, it does not have the capacity to sustain fetal growth. We often saw these women in the emergency room near death after a rupture, usually by the second or third month. Fortunately, ultrasound better enables us to diagnose before a rupture, but not always. When diagnosed, surgery is immediately indicated.

I think that’s the point. These cards are not coming from our point of view. They are coming from the “other side”. They are a mockery of our concern for women. They are not sincere.

They are meant to comfort women after an abortion. What’s “not sincere” about that? I don’t like the idea and I’m sure there are better ways to support women – but at least they don’t judge them.
Mary, not all ectopic pregnancies develop in the fallopian tube. Some fall out and implant themselves elsewhere in the liver, such as the one that resulted in a full-term pregnancy in Africa in 2003.

For all of you who judge, this was the effort on the part of an organization formed to help women find peace after abortion. It’s very rude to pretend that women don’t feel pain after abortion, and therefore say a card may not be necessary. Although the idea is a little weird, their intentions are the best, unlike those of some of the above commenters.

I don’t think anyone was saying a a woman does not feel pain after an abortion, I think they were wondering who would actually have the audacity to send a card. But here’s the answer…

No, I really think you are all misinterpreting this. This isn’t about having the audacity to do anything, this is actually a sincere effort at trying to make a woman feel better after having an abortion.
I like the cards.It is representing the loss of a child no matter what the circumstances.We must start somewhere.
I think these cards are strange. According to the pro-abortion people a baby is not involved so where is the trauma? A better thing is a good post abortion recovery class
C’mon, give people a little credit. I assume that whoever sends these should know the woman well enough to know if a card is appropriate or not. Sympathy cards are not insincere.
I checked out the website, and they are legit; it’s amazing to find a webpage that is so non-judgemental and understanding. This really is a sincere effort to help women feel better after their choice.
And to those who are ranting about making a market for infanticide (which abortion is not), these cards are not on the market. They are free (I just sent one to myself to check). If they really were insincere or looking for a way to get a quick buck, wouldn’t you think that they would charge?
I heard about these cards this week on the radio and am now searching one out as I just found out my 40+ year old sister is carrying a severly down-syndrome baby and is planning to terminate the pregnancy on Tue. While I would NEVER make that choice, I know she must be torn up about this and I would like to aknowledge her grief. My point is that there may be times and/or circumstances where a note of sympathy may be appropriate.
How more macabre could this get? This is insane…sympathy cards for abortion…unless of course they are sent to the baby…at “mommy’s” address.
