Late this afternoon President Bush sent a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid stating he will “veto any legsilation that weakens current federal policies and laws on abortion, or that encourages the destruction of human life at any stage.”
Over the past decades many important pro-life riders have been attached to appropriations bills, ensuring taxpayer funds do not support funding for abortion, embryo destruction, and coercive population programs, and also providing conscience protections, etc.
Democrats are expected to drop all those provisions as well as attach riders to appropriations bills to fund the abortion industry in various ways. Planned Parenthood advocacy alerts have stated they want a $100 million increase for Title X, for instance.
President Bush has said not to bother.
His letter follows a letter 155 pro-life congressmen sent him on March 30 encouraging him to take just that stand and promising to vote to sustain any such veto. 146 votes are necessary to sustain a veto.
We’ll see if Democrats will waste everyone’s time uselessly pandering to pro-aborts. They likely will.

If you’ll notice, before this past year’s elections the republicans controlled congress. They don’t anymore. It probably had something to do with the vast majority of Americans being fed up with their BS and general ineptitude at doing anything but feeding their own desires.

Personally, I don’t care if mr. Clinton slept with his grandmother or his pet goat (neither of which would surprise me), but the man looked me in the eye on national television and lied throught his teeth.
This is pretty much the attitude we talk about when addressing the abortion issue. Actions, consequences, not taking responsibility and lying (killing the consequence) to make your life easier.

George Bush, on the other hand, did not “lie” to us. He believed, because of Sadaam’s previous record, that he had WMD’s. He had already killed millions of people using them. There was/is no way to know what that man had up his sleeve.
President Bush did not “kill” anyone. Everyone of those soldiers volunteered for their services. No one forced them to go to Iraq. While the loss of life in any circumstance is regrettable and sad, these men and women were doing what they believed was right. How dare you sit in your country and judge the United States. I get awfully tired of “Europeans” having fabulous opinions about us when their own state of affairs is so pathetic. Mirror, Mirror on the wall…
And for the record, Monica Lewinsky, was barely an adult and was manipulated by that man. I would think as a raging feminist you’d be up in arms yourself over a man using his power to lure a young, naive girl under his desk. I’m not saying Monica was a “pure, young thing”, just that I’m sure she was influenced by his position.

I’m glad Republicans lost congress. And I can’t stand those who dismiss their behavior. For example, about the “Madam’s house” potential scandal Sean Hannity said “some people call that just to talk because they are lonely.” You think if Democrats were accused Sean Hannity would say that? No! He’d be all over them!! It doesn’t matter how outrageous the moral or political behavior of the Republicans or the Administration, for some reason people still defend them! Why?!
The fact that so many Repub’s dismiss the behavior and actions of the administration is apalling to me. I’m not accusing everyone, but many people I see in the news, and a few people I know personally, do this all the time. It’s so hypocritical. Democrat or Republican, we need to be brutally honest about our government’s policies. For example, Clinton made quite a few mistakes..and Kerry was awful, I don’t know how he got elected, there were good candidates at the primaries and they picked this guy who wasn’t even very good. If we vote on party lines we become blinded to the nature of the policies of the government.
Come on people, let’s be honest. Bush has been less than good. Sure, he may be pro-life, but does that excuse his behavior in everything else? Nope.

As it turns out, and as makes perfect sense, Clinton’s affair impacted his decision not to go after Bin laden and probably many, many other decisions. He was already being accused of wagging the dog and so backed away.

President Clinton didn’t just lie to us on TV. He lied to congress under oath. This is called perjury. If any military person had done this they would have been jailed. Yet the commander of the military got away with it. This is hypocrisy.
Bush didn’t lie. ALL the countries in decision to go to war believed there was WMD’s. Why in the hell it is ONLY Bush that lied is beyong me. Russia, France and Germany pulled out at the last minute and then were found to have taken advantage of the oil for food program. Of course, most people don’t know how bad the oil for food program was because the media didn’t report it. Some people in these countries got rich at the lives and safety of the Iraq people.
Sadam killed millions of his own people and millions of Kurds. Not to mention everyone in between. I could care less if he had WMD or not. The UN resolutions (all 18? of them) stated more than just WMD. He was also being charged with humanity violations. Which has been proven 100 times over. Mass graves. video tapes of cruelty. I don’t think I need to continue.
If the media in all countries would stop giving the terrorist propaganda material we would be winning the war. The majority of the Iraqi people only hear that Americans want the military to pull out, that we are loosing the war etc. The terrorist are using OUR words against us and the Iraqi people are terrified. We bailed on them once and the people who helped us paid the extreme price. Why would they want to help us now when it looks like we are going to bail again? In order to protect their family lives they are not helping.
It is the media that is loosing the war. Not the military.

Plenty of blame to go around. If it weren’t for the abortion issue, I wouldn’t call myself a republican. It’s all we have right now tho.
Politicians, Lawyers and abortionists all belong in the same category if you ask me. With very few exceptions they are out for themselves, and themselves alone.
But we don’t live in a Utopia, and Val is right. Spreading lies and hate is only harming the men and women serving in Iraq…the ones you claim we are killing and that you say you care so much about! Not to mention the harm being done to Iraq. Bottom line is, whether we like the government they chose or not, they DID Choose it. And they were able to Choose it for the first time in their history because of the war. If we had gone in and placed a government there I could understand your animosity, but all we did was give them the opportunity to choose their own.
I like how choice (the volunteers who are fighting over their, the hand-picked government) only matters when it’s the choice you would have made.

Also interesting is the US’s past and present invovlements in foreign politics–we’d rather support horrible dictators than socialism or communism, years later, we’d rather take out dictators than fighting real injustice in Africa. Just a thought to put out there.
Nobody’s saying taking Saddam out of power wasn’t a good idea. Everybody knows he was a terrible leader. But notice how afterwards, instead of helping the people decide what kind of government was best for them (after the elections), what kind of government the Iraqi people wanted–we are implementing the kind of government that is good for us. MK, you may disagree on this issue. But did we pull out of Iraq after the elections? Let them figure it out after we liberated them? Nope…we stay there, and Bush is fighting any legislation that suggests we pull out.
People blame a “liberal media”–The media is so controlled an commercialized in America, most media is controlled by 2 or 3 large corporations that owns everything. In Vietnam–totally different story. They showed war. They were independent. Our media now won’t show people getting shot, only people shooting guns. An interesting observation, don’t you think?
Our troops are doing some good there. Plenty people are grateful. But many of them are angry that we are telling them what is good for their country now. We continue occupying their country when a lot of people would rather we stay out of their business. After the elections, we continue to occupy the country. How would we feel if people decided they didn’t like the way America is running their country and came in and started from ruling overseas? That is what happened back in the 1700s. We would go “screw you, we deserve to run our own damn country” like we did back then.
On the other hand, many feel that since we broke it, we should fix it. Can’t really fight that statement, either. Kind of a sticky situation, we are in, to tell the truth.

Personally, I loathe both the Republicans and the Democrats. I am very dissatisfied with candidates from both parties for t he upcoming presidential election. I feel none of them are trustworthy nor are they really all that qualified for the job.
It really makes me sad that we only have a two-party system…I think if we had a multiple party system like they have in Europe we’d have a lot more accountability with our politicians.
Rae, I totally agree. I would trust politicians in general a whole lot more if there are independent politicians out there from competitive parties threatening their all-too-comfy seats.
PiP: I voted for the first time in 2006 (Whooooo! It’s about time!) and in Minnesota we had our gubernatorial race of Pawlenty (R), Hatch (D) and a gentleman named Peter Hutchinson (I). I didn’t like Pawlenty because of his anti-immigration stance and his fondness for cutting education spending to the University of Minnesota and I hated Hatch because he is a complete twit and a disgrace to the Democratic Party (though that really isn’t say too much…). I voted for Hutchinson, even though I knew he had no chance of winning…but I had to vote with my conscience because the other two candidates were just so partisan and pretty much followed their party lines to a T! They made their campaigns focus on frivolous and pointless issues like gay marriage where as Hutchinson focused on real issues like the transportation problems in Minnesota, our health care shortages, education…things that REALLY MATTER. Hell, even the St. Paul Pioneer Press newspaper gave their endorsement to Hutchinson because he was the best candidate…unfortunately he lost (Pawlenty won) because he is an independent and he wasn’t as “flashy” as Ventura (a disgrace to Minnesota…).
It’s frustrating, to say the least.

It’s okay, I share your frustration. In one of the senate seats in Oklahoma, Tom Coburn was running against this Democrat. I dont’ even remember his name because he was so unremarkable. Typical Democrat with no plan and no balls.
Tom Coburn ran on the platform of the typical Republican variety. I knew he would be problematic based on his views on abortion. It’s okay to be pro-life, at the time it didn’t matter as much to me, and especially now that I would consider myself pro-life, that wasn’t the issue. I would love a pro-life agenda. But this guy was freakin’ crazy. He believed in the death penalty for abortion doctors! Wait, this guy is prolife?? He also wants no legal allowances of abortion int he case of rape.
He considered the conservative government to be too liberal. He said homosexuality was the biggest threat to America. He has been quoted as saying, “lesbianism is so rampant in some of the schools in Southeast Oklahoma that they’ll only let one girl go to the bathroom. Now think about it.” (This was denied by the school administrations). Also, check this quote out: “The gay community has infiltrated the very centers of power in every area across this country, and they wield extreme power… That agenda is the greatest threat to our freedom that we face today. Why do you think we see the rationalization for abortion and multiple sexual partners? That’s a gay agenda.”
Yeah, abortion is a gay issue?!
Needless to say, he won the seat in Oklahoma. Man that guy is crazy. Drove me crazy come election time. Although I can’t say that the Democrat would be more responsible…
That’s when I began to support independent candidates–these people can hold these sleezy politicians accountable.

As far as homosexuality goes, I believe we are to preach the Gospel. I don’t necessarally take the “Way of the Master” approach and think we should point out sins as a way to lead to God. It’s a complicated line of being truthful with Gospel and pushing people away.
Actually, watching Clarissa, it’s hilarious and witty (not to mention it addresses some world issues). But some of that stuff wouldn’t be aired today. For example, in one of the episodes it shows her mother smoking!! We were like, wow, they would never get away with that on a kids show anymore!
Same with Pete and Pete. They aired a song that was clearly about masturbation..and his math teacher was named Cooter Fingerwood! I am not kidding. But it was witty nonetheless.
Those were some good times, man. Good times.

The only show I wasn’t allowed to watch growing up was The Simpsons. I was allowed to watch Rosanne though, which looking back doesn’t make a lot of sense.
I was DEFINITELY not allowed to watch Ren and Stimpy. That was a definite “no-no”. No Simpsons.
However, my parents did let me watch the Drew Carey Show and Ellen back in the day.
South Park was also a no-no…heck I’m 19 and they STILL don’t like me watching it. :-p
Mythbusters is one of my favorite shows though…it’s so geeky but it’s educational with it’s physics and chemistry stuff but entertaining at the same time. It’s like a grown-up version of Bill Nye the Science Guy (which I still love watching).

Oh my gosh…I love “Married with Children”…during the summer when I am staying up obscenely late I’ll watch old reruns of it on FX while switching between that and CSI on Spike TV. :-O
I wasn’t allowed to watch The Simpsons growing up either. A lot of people I know weren’t. I was over at one of my friends house flipping channels and landed on The Simpsons for a minute and her dad came in and said “we do not watch that show in this house”. It was kind of scary. Of course I get a lot of people who think it’s crazy because I don’t watch The Simpsons because I was never allowed to growing up.

My mom didn’t allow me to watch that show. I did watch it when she wasn’t home, but I was far from impressed, so it didn’t bother me much. But she let me watch Rocko! Remember that stuff? If only they released that on DVD…

Also Lauren, it was the opposite. I could watch the Simpsons, but not Roseanne. Actually when I look back at it I think my mom didn’t allow me to watch it because Roseanne annoyed her so much.
Everytime I see Stiller’s wife around I remember her on Hey Dude..good times.
Yeah my mom HATES south park–but I love it. Superior to Family Guy. I am going to get a lot of responses to that I’m sure ;)

There are two important rules to always follow when it comes to love, war, or politics:
1. Never underestimate your competition.
2. Never expect, or predict, a quick and easy victory.
Your cohorts learned this lesson back in 1990. After the Supreme Court Casey decision, abortion advocates went ballistic, intimidating pro-life politicians, threatening reprisal at the ballot box, and warning that abortion advocates would descend on the voting booths like the hordes of Ghengis Khan. An obedient media performed as expected, informing us that people were breaking down doors with battering rams to join NARAL, NOW, and other abortion groups. Our local paper considered it a newsworthy event when the local chapter of NOW gained 10 new members. If an abortion advocate was elected dog catcher in Backwater Junction, this was trumpeted by the compliant media as yet another sign of the great strength of abortion advocates. After a year of predicting doom for pro-lifers, and vowing to take no prisoners, on election day 1990 there was no great pro-abortion victory, and people with more than just a little egg on their faces, not to mention a deafening silence from abortion advocates and the media.

I’m pretty impressed about the last couple seasons of South Park. Satan’s sweet sixteen party for example…brilliant.

Yeah that was a good one, too. I like how they hit a lot of current events in the same episode. And they do it pretty currently considering it takes forever to make just one episode.
@JK: Actually, it only takes one week to make an episode of South Park. My personal favorite episode is either the World of Warcraft episode or the Woodland Critter Christmas one. ^_^
Hmmm..I thought I had heard somewhere that it took a while and I guess I just believed it because animation is a painstaking process (as I have myself made a crude animation). But I suppose they have a bunch of people working on it.
What about the one where Cartman ends up in the future because he couldn’t wait to get Nintendo Wii?

Yessss…that episode was fantastic.
Originally the episodes took awhile because they were literally made of cut-outs, but early in the 1st season they stopped and switched to computers so they can whip out an animation very quickly. They explained the process on 60 Minutes one night when they interviewed Matt and Trey.
I also REALLY love the gay camp episode. It’s sorta dark humor but I was CRYING when the “coverted” pastor was twirling in front of the kids.
I like the episode with the animal’s christmas story, where stan and kyle abort the antichrist.

Does anybody watch Will & Grace and remember when Jack and Karen joined this homosexual recovery group because Jack fell in love with the guy in charge of it? And then it turned out that the husbands were dating the husbands and the wives were dating the wives.
There was also the “24” themed episode.

I just watched the episode of Scrubs, where the actor who played Jack on Will & Grace plays one of J.D.’s collagues… and I kept thinking of him as “The gay one” because I can’t really see him play anyone besides Jack. Sick, I know ^^
That guy also had a role on “Campus Ladies” the Oxygen version of Strangers With Candy. The history of his role was terribly politically incorrect, but hi-larious.
And just because I watched it yesterday: The Addams Family. I love every character, especially Wednesday.

Meh. The sad fact is that abortion really hasn’t been a big influence on American elections. Not for pro-life candidates or pro-choice candidates. The “faithful” on each side of the issue get all riled up about each new law or SCOTUS case that might affect abortion, but their votes were already locked up anyway. The vast majority of “undecided” or “independent” voters just couldn’t care less about abortion….
That said, I have made a personal pledge to never vote for a pro-abortion candidate. I might vote for a pro-choicer, but only if the opponent is even worse on the issue. On the other hand, I’ll vote for just about any pro-lifer, as long as his/her pro-life credentials have any credibility.
Vote for Life, and I’ll vote for you. Vote for Abortion, and I’ll vote against you. It’s really that simple for me. No other issue can compare to it.
