Smoothie operator
This guy faces life in prison for slipping his girlfriend RU-486 in a smoothie and causing her to abort (not “miscarry”) twice, when if she had wanted to take the pill to abort she would have been federally protected. He also gave her the drug, which is not to be prescribed after 49 days, at 15 weeks. From Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:
A 34-year-old Kaukauna man who owns several hotels and gas stations in the Fox Valley and northeastern Wisconsin is accused of giving his girlfriend the abortion pill RU-486 because he didn’t want children.
The 39-year-old Kaukauna woman couldn’t understand why she suddenly miscarried twice especially after her regular medical check-ups showed her pregnancies were going well….
When he learned his girlfriend was pregnant, he moved in with her under the guise of taking care of her and made her meals and tea, said Outagamie County Sheriff’s Sgt. Gary Shortess.
“That was the only time he seemed interested in her, when he thought she was pregnant,” said Shortess….
Shortess and sheriff’s Sgt. Ryan Carpenter described Patel as manipulative and controlling of the woman who bought the home Patel was living in with his wife and was paying the mortgage. The 39-year-old woman, who is a family physician, also purchased vehicles for Patel.
RU-486 tablets were found at Patel’s home when authorities conducted a search. Carpenter said officials believe Patel obtained them outside the United States….
The pregnancies were 15 weeks along in the first miscarriage and 5 to 7 weeks along in the second miscarriage….
When Patel purchased a smoothie at a local ice cream store in mid September the woman sat in the car while he went inside to buy the drink, the detectives said. He split the drink in two and after pouring part of the smoothie into another cup, the woman told detectives she saw him thoroughly mix it before giving it to her. Because of her suspicions, the woman kept the smoothie which was later tested and found to contain the crushed up abortion pill.
From the Associated Press:
Authorities have arrested a married man they say caused a woman to miscarry twice by slipping her an abortion drug…. Manishkumar M. Patel, 34, of Appleton….
The 39-year-old woman already had a 3-year-old child with Patel, who was married to someone else…. She became pregnant two more times but miscarried in December and September….
Apparently suspecting she had been slipped mifespristone, the abortion pill also known as RU-486, the woman had a blood sample sent to a California lab for analysis…. When it tested positive for the drug, she approached the sheriff’s department….
Sheriff’s officials said charges against Patel could include attempted first-degree intentional homicide of an unborn child, burglary, stalking and violating a restraining order….
Sheriff’s investigators said Patel admitted putting the drug in something the woman consumed without her knowledge….
Wisconsin is one of 37 states with a fetal homicide law…. Under the 1998 law, anyone who attacks a pregnant woman and injures or kills her fetus could face life in prison.
At least six people have been charged with a crime under the law since 1998….
Yet another way abortion exploits women.
what a scumbag.
I don’t really see how this is abortion exploiting women. It’s just a story about a guy deciding that he had the right to make a woman’s choice for her. He is indeed a scumbag.
Stephanie,
Your comment made me think about it, too. I “looked it up”:
Exploit (Encarta Dictionary): to take selfish or unfair advantage of a person or situation, usually for personal gain.
I see PP in everything evil about abortion. So, I see the above definition as the way that PP exploits women and teens for their own profit. PP’s profit being actual dollars, and Patel’s “personal gain” by her not having the two children. (selfish bast—!)
Just my opinion…
Isn’t this kind of like your spanking argument?
If you want to belt your toddler, that’s YOUR decision and the government should have no say in the matter.
If I decide to belt your toddler, I go to prison.
If I decide to scrape out my uterus, it’s MY decision, and the government should have no say in the matter.
If YOU decide to scrape out my uterus, you go to prison.
The day you decide what you get to do with MY uterus is the day I decide when I get to belt YOUR kids. (…And REALLY, they are askin’ for it!)
The guy sure wasn’t Pro-Choice for his girlfriend.
Some people are sick and evil.
Laura, I am surprised you aren’t more upset about the men taking the choices FROM the women. But hey, as long as somebody’s having an abortion, you don’t care who’s choice it was. You don’t really support choice, you just support it when the choice IS abortion. Don’t ever have or be around children, Laura..cause your disgust for them makes you hazardous to their health.
You GO, Elizabeth !
Whats funny is I just saw this on the news about five seconds ago. I jump on Jill’s site and shes already talked about it. I was going to send her an article about it but looks like I don’t have to.
Oooooooooo a BIG snow storm is COMING!
I wonder whether he’d have gotten away with it if he had used methotrexate instead of RU486. It’s less obvious, it has a shorter half-life in the body, and it comes as a powder, not in pills which must be crushed and are detectable.
Laura,
I’m not really seeing the point you’re trying to make here.
SoMG,
Why don’t you talk to these women’s boyfriends and let them know about that so they can use that the next time around. Sicko.
“Why don’t you talk to these women’s boyfriends and let them know about that so they can use that the next time around. Sicko.”
I’m with Elizabeth on this one.
Yuck.

Gee, Elizabeth, if you read my answer you’d know that I’m opposed to what that guy did.
He had no more right to end her pregnancy than a pack of fetus-fetishists have the right to force her to carry one. It’s none of their business.
Laura,
why are getting on this guys case? thats his baby in there too? he didn’t want it, so he aborted. He doesn’t want to be responsible for children so he used his right to choose. Who gave the woman the right to carry his child? just because they had sex, that doesn’t equal children, maybe he’s not ready. maybe he wants to “plan” his pregnancies. What are you trying to say? only the mother can kill her baby? why can’t the father, he has to pay and work for that kid, and you Laura with your holier than thou attitude are forcing this man to have an unwanted child. Don’t you remember the liberal taking points “every child should be a wanted child”?
Interesting.
Somg, just gave advise in how to murder a baby in the womb, and damage the mother or kill her, which is less detectable then RU,486, by using a precription drug, methotrexate, for reasons which the drug was not designed for.
. I ain’t forgeting that one Somg.
In fact, Somg, you might end up on Court tv’s Forensic Files. Or have you already been sentenced for poisoning someone?
What a criminal mind you have Somg.
Jasper, the man does not get to decide because it is not his body carrying this fetus around. If it was his body, then he can choose. Until then, it remains the woman’s choice.
And before you go off with, “but it is his baby too”, I agree that the man involved should get his say in what happens, but it still remains the woman’s choice in the end.
Yet another way abortion exploits women.
What? That doesn’t even make sense!
You do realize that what this man did is illegal, right? And you do realize that even if ALL abortion was illegal, criminals would still be able to get ahold of methotrexate and probably mifepristone, too, and do this to women.
yllas —
In fact, Somg, you might end up on Court tv’s Forensic Files.
LOL! He didn’t post anything that isn’t already common knowledge in countries with abortion bans.
lets be clear about what has happened. a chemical is intentionally introduced into the uterus and the baby dies. now if the woman had chosen to take this course it would be referred to as either contraception or abortion and the result is an empty uterus. the man takes the action to introduce the chemical and it is fetal homicide and the consequence is life in prison for the man. the product of the action results in differing consequences for the participants. the result is still a dead baby.
why is it then that when pp undertakes precisely this same action the left insists that it is not a human being which has been exterminated but rather a benign medical procedure.
laura: ” a pack of fetus-fetishists ” apparently you would much rather indulge in childish prattle than contemplate the significance and consequence of abortion both in relation to the damaged woman and in relation to the deceased infant.
Jodes,
That is an interesting point you make there. So much for EQUAL rights. I thought men and women were equal ya know. I guess not..at least when it comes to whether the children they conceive get to live or not. Maybe that’s why there are so many absentee dad’s in the world..because their whole role as parents in so trivialized by the woman’s right to choose that they feel it doesn’t matter if they’re around or not. Cause really, it doesn’t matter if he wanted the kid or not..she just got rid of it anyway.
Poor Tp.
The medication methotrexate is not given to a patient for abortion. Is it? In fact, one of the warnings about using methotrexate is that it may cause death or fetal abnormalities. So, by stating that using methotrexate for the murdering of a baby in the womb, and endangering the mother’s health, you are poisoning a person.
Somg, and possibly you TP, and Genene Jones, subject of the book, The Death Shift; true story of nurse Genene Jones and the Texas baby murders, think alike.
Guys, could you NOT jump all over SoMG? Probably not the most appropriate thing to say, but he’s just giving us some facts that he learned somewhere in (maybe forensic science, or medicine?).
No he’s not..he’s giving advice on how to murder your unborn child and get away with it. Either way, Stephanie..it’s inappropriate and “sane” people really don’t care how you murder an unborn child without getting caught by your gf or the cops. That kind of information I don’t find educational personally. Only people interested in terminating their significant other’s pregnancy would.
Forcing a woman to abort against her will is NOT pro choice!
WooHoo, TR, I have found myself agreeing with you about more than one thing this week!
Forcing a woman to abort against her will is NOT pro choice!

The interesting thing is that the crime for which he is charged is a crime against the baby, not the mother. What right does she have in such a case? Privacy? I am not trying to be a smarty pants. I think it is an interesting legal situation
“No he’s not..he’s giving advice on how to murder your unborn child and get away with it.”
Elizabeth,
That wasn’t advice. He had a hypothetical situation (yes, an inappropriate one) that he was wondering about and gave reason. Again I stress that I know it was inappropriate, but just because he knows about that kind of stuff does not automatically make him a murderer or whatever you think he is.
I never said it made him a murderer. I just think it’s sick which is what I said. I said he should let those guys know so they can do a better job next time. He seemed intrigued about the whole idea, which is odd because I was merely repulsed by the whole concept of somebody doing this to another human being. I guess that’s the difference between me and SoMG. Oh well.
There is a life and death difference between spanking a child and killing a child.
No one has the right to kill a child, born or unborn.
Parents have the right to discipline their children, within limits, of course. No one else may discipline their children unless the parents have given them permission.
There is no comparison between a parent spanking a child versus someone killing a child by abortion, abuse, or any other means.
This country had better stop mixing up the message. Abortion is murder, and anyone who commits it is a murderer.
Somg is probably typing from prison.
“If you want to belt your toddler, that’s YOUR decision and the government should have no say in the matter.
If I decide to belt your toddler, I go to prison.
If I decide to scrape out my uterus, it’s MY decision, and the government should have no say in the matter.
If YOU decide to scrape out my uterus, you go to prison.

==============================
Laura, I think you misstated your argument. Didn’t you mean…
If you kill my baby, you go to prison.
If I kill my baby, it’s MY decision.
