Tribute to Henry Hyde
I was sorry to hear of Congressman Henry Hyde’s passing today. I met him a few times. He was an eloquent, ardent and invaluable defender of life.
His short political bio, from World magazine, today:
Former IL Republican congressman Henry Hyde, 83, passed away on Nov. 29. Hyde, who led the impeachment trial of President Bill Clinton, served 16 terms in Congress before retiring at the end of the last term. A stalwart pro-life conservative, the congressman in 1976 authored what became known as the “Hyde Amendment,” which blocked all federal funding for abortions. Days before Hyde left office earlier this year, President Bush presented him with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, declaring him a “powerful defender of life.”

Was this early in your pro-life career?
That photo was taken at a fundraiser for someone or some group I don’t remember. Congressman Hyde was the draw. I’m guessing it was 4-5 years ago.
I’m surprised that none of you has mentioned how AbFab Mike Huckabee was in last night’s Republican debate.
That is a very charming, witty man.
(I say one nice thing about a Republican every year. I was lucky to get this year’s in before the December rush…)

We should thank God for giving us a man like Henry Hyde in these times and pray He will send us more people devoted to the truth and possessed to the strength to do what is right.

Congressman Henry Hyde will go down in U.S. history as one of the strongest voices and most tireless workers in the defense of the right to life of children in the womb. He will be sorely missed.
In 1981, after leaving the House Banking Committee, Hyde went on the board of directors of Clyde Federal Savings and Loan, whose President was one of many of Hyde’s banker contributors. The Congress deregulated S&L industry in 1982, and Clyde began taking part in loans for luxury residences in Texas and bought a bank in the Cayman Islands, a notorious financial exchange for laundering money. Since 1984, when Hyde left the board, it was clear to the directors from the reports that the establishment had failed, but Hyde and others on the board continued to give inappropriate financial loans to cronies and insiders and make it possible for the establishment to overcharge the government on student loans. In 1990, the federal government put Clyde in receivership, and finally paid $67 million to cover deposits. In 1993, the Resolution Trust Corporation sued Hyde and other directors for $17.2 million.
Hyde had an extramarital affair in the late 1960 and destroyed a family.
Hyde was 41, a state legislator, and the father of four sons when the affair began in 1965 with a
29-year-old Cherie Snodgrass, who had a son and two daughters between the ages of 7 and 9 at the time. The relationship lasted until at least 1969.
The Snodgrasses divorced because of the affair.

Hyde’s affair didn’t come to light until he lead a self-righteous charge for Bill Clinton’s impeachment.
At that time, Larry Flynt offered a million dollars for anyone who could out a Republican Senator as a cheater.
Someone did.
When Hyde was confronted with the evidence, he referred to cheating on his wife as “a youthful indiscretion,” interesting, as he was 40 when the affair began.
I love it that his version of “defending family values” means that women who are willing to serve, fight and die for this country can’t get medical care, but Henry’s free to boink around.

Isn’t it amazing that on that day President Bush honored with a freedom medal another pro life champion, Dr. Biscet, jailed in Cuba for his pro life views?

That estimate seems looney to me. You think between one and two million pregnant women said: “Well since the government isn’t putting up $300.00 for my abortion, I’m gonna grow the rack up thousands of dollars on hospital bills instead”??

Larry Flynt, who, according to feminist leader Gloria Steinem made his millions denegrating women in a manner that would never be tolerated by any racial or ethnic group. Remember the woman in a meatgrinder?
It says a lot about Clinton when a scumsucker like Larry Flynt speaks of his love and admiration for him.
Contrary to popular misconception, no one went after Clinton because of his affair, but rather because of perjury and obstruction of justice. Even Gloria Allred, feminist lawyer and a Clinton supporter agreed Clinton should have to answer for these offenses, ones she considered very serious.
