Jill Stanek is a nurse turned speaker, columnist and blogger, a national figure in the effort to protect both preborn and postborn innocent human life.
I have to say I find it more than disconcerting that Brian Rohrbough is in the lead for the Pro-Lifer of the Year award. It appears the handful of Denver-area supporters of his have hijacked the poll while the rest of us are spread out over several legitimate nominees.
His only real claim to fame in 2007 is starting an organization with the sole purposes of attacking a venerable pro-life group and others who support its strategy to end abortion. His new group is already causing the kind of internal dissention and strife Planned Parenthood could only dream of sparking.
Consider the other options:
David Bereit – who did an excellent job of mobilizing tens of thousands of pro-life people for prayer and protest
President Bush – who protected us from spending millions on funding embryonic stem cell research
Henry Hyde – who may have prevented 1 million abortions and their funding with the Hyde amendment
Phill Kline – who has done more to hold the abortion industry accountable than virtually any other elected official
Troy Newman – who is holding his finger in the dam in the most pro-abortion state
Pro-life bloggers – the real media, enough said
Eric Scheidler – who the pro-life movement owes a debt for exposing PPs new secret tactics and who Rohrbough has to thank for paving the way for the opposition in Denver
Shinya Yamanaka – whose moral objections led him to move ahead with ESCR alternatives
These great pro-life leaders (except Shinya who may not be pro-life) all were responsible for saving countless lives. Rohrbough is pro-life but should never have been a nominee given his latest divisive antics.
Let’s see how soon it will be before the ad hominem attacks begin…
Look at yourself! Who’s slinging ad-hominem attacks? The hatred for Brian Rohrbough in some circles of the pro-life movement disgusts me.
Brian has criticized others, and has provided evidence for why. And he’s turned the pro-life argument in Colorado and nationally entirely around so we’re seriously discussing personhood as the goal. He’s persecuted for it, but I think he’s right and we should all listen to his wisdom.

I can agree with some of the sentiment behind the original post in the sense that it’s one thing to have a good faith disagreement about the best strategy to stop abortions. It’s quite another to go on and on attacking other pro-life groups or people.
It doesn’t matter who’s right as long as abortion ends ASAP. I think we’re all trying to get there.
I didn’t vote for Rohrbough, not like the previous writer because I have any dislike for him, but because I have another personal favorite.
I think Henry Hyde stood in the trenches for so long and stopped so many publicly-funded abortions that he’s one of the pro-life movement’s real heroes. His devotiion to God and the wisdom with which he approached his opposition to abortion was magnificant. If only I could articulate the pro-life message as eloquently as Congressman Hyde did.
A “yearly” award is almost too insignificant for this statesman.
Bush was my second favorite because he has stood up to ESCR time and again and alot of folks forget that. Kline, Bereit, bloggers, etc. all good choices too.
I’m curious to hear who others picked.

I agree with you 100%….hands down…Henry Hyde, God rest his soul!
I don’t know much about Rohrbough, but must agree with the hijacking of the votes in his favor (within about a 3-hour span, I may add!) It looked pretty ligit for a while, until this happened!
Anyway, there are so many GREAT pro-lifers out there, that it’s a tough one for me to cast my vote on one. However, Mr. Hyde did spend many years & was brutally criticized for his stance, but perservered and as “Real Pro-Lifer” said, probably saved a millinon lives.

Its totally legit. Or are you implying that its not legit simply because one or two people sent out an e-mail to their friends about the existence of this poll? It this a secret poll only for those who run across this blog?
Zeke, I’m fully capable of posting my own thoughts under my own name and have done so on numerous occasions here and elsewhere. I don’t hide my opinions. If you have a problem with what the person wrote above, take it up with that person. If you have a problem with me, have the respect and decency to email me privately (see Matthew chapter 28) rather than going after me on Jill’s blog.
