Barack Obama knew a question about Bill Ayers was coming. Sean Hannity has been pounding on Obama’s association with the unrepentent, Pentagon-bombing, Weather Underground domestic terrorist for weeks.
So Obama was prepared; he and his handlers had come up with what they thought was a good response.
And last night the question came during the PA debate, by of all people George Stephanopoulos. Good for him.
Watch the 1st 2 minutes of this clip:

Obama’s response? “The fact is that I’m also friendly with Tom Coburn, one of the most conservative Republicans in the United States Senate, who during his campaign once said that it might be appropriate to apply the death penalty to those who carried out abortions. Do I need to apologize for Mr. Coburn’s statements? Because I certainly don’t agree with those, either.”…

bill ayers.jpgObama was equating one friend who to this day remains unapologetic for plotting to overthrow the US government by organizing riots and bombings, with another friend who thinks someone who murders human beings in cold blood in exchange for money should be charged with 1st degree murder and given the death penalty.
Obama was saying he considers both those views equally outrageous and beyond the pale.
coburn 1.jpgStrange that he chose the abortion opposition to balance the Weather Underground.
I spoke with a source close to Senator Coburn today who thought Obama’s comparison was “extraordinarily clumsy and not calculated to foster a friendship.”
Haha. I agree comparing a senate colleague to a domestic terrorist will tense up a relationship.
