Obama’s “lipstick on a pig” slur II
The McCain campaign quickly posted an ad punishing Barack Obama for his “lipstick on a pig” slur against Sarah Palin yesterday, which Obama just incredibly, arrogantly, and offensively denied.
The press is all over this one. Over 3,500 news stories on it this morning.
Ed Morrissey at Hot Air said it better than I could have this morning…
Did Obama really mean to call Sarah Palin a pig, or at least refer to her in that sentence? In order to answer that question, people have to look at the full context of his statement here. He also said this:
“You can put lipstick on a pig,” he said as the crowd cheered. “It’s still a pig.”
“You can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change. It’s still gonna stink.”
“We’ve had enough of the same old thing.”Given that Palin had very publicly made the lipstick/pit bull joke during her widely-seen acceptance speech, it certainly seems that Obama intended to reference both Palin and McCain respectively in this sequence, with Palin being the pig and McCain the “old fish” wrapped in change. The crowd certainly understood what Obama meant, and roared appreciatively.
Now Obama and his team want to pretend that this sequence had no meaning whatsoever. It’s always difficult to gauge intent, but one would have to think Obama an idiot for not seeing the subtext of his own statement, especially since the crowd understood it all too well. Obama himself has cried about the supposed racist attacks of Republicans and the McCain campaign all summer long, without ever once giving any evidence of it, and certainly not a data point like this.
If Obama wants to argue subliminal racism, he has no defense against overt sexism now. This is his game, and he just proved himself incompetent at it.

Obaminator’s image is slipping…let’s face it…when the chips are down, image isn’t enough to pull you thru.
Gee,
What do you think Michelle and Obama say about Hillary during pillow talk?
I think Hillary is showing a lot of class by being silent on this issue.
Well, it seems this is even being debated in the Republican party. Huckabee has already come out in support of Obama. Both McCain and Obama have used that phrase multiple times in this campaign and because there is one word in common with a DNC speech, using the phrase is unaccaptable.
Both McCain and Obama used it to refer to various thing’s, including some of Clinton’s policy ideas. Obama used it against McCain in palin in the same way- as a general attack on their policy ideas.
correction: RNC speech not DNC
There’s a campaign to send used lipstick tubes to Obama with the message:
Words do matter, read my lipstick you’re not getting my vote.
Dan, Huckabee didn’t think Obama would be stupid enough to do something so blatant. I do. He used to flip Hillary off “stealthfully” all the time and then fain innocence.
Lauren,
On Jill’s 1st “lipstick on a pig” post(Sept. 9th)a commenter named Arlen linked to 3 of Obama’s speeches where he flips Hillary in 3 different speeches. I just watched them all. Wow. If it wasn’t meant to be The Finger then why does the audience laugh and cheer??
The more Obama and Biden talk the bigger the hole they dig for themselves. Just watched the gaffes video over on Youtube. Do they think before they speak?? Seriously.
Yeah, Carla…my wife always says…give them enough rope and they’ll hang themselves…

I think it’s a calculated move on her part…Obaminator slides and loses this election, Democrats dumps him and they come back to Hillary for 2012…where she “gracefully” accepts the nomination with that cocky smile/ grin of hers.
Huckabee has already come out in support of Obama.
I believe that what Huckabee said was that while this is indeed a phrase that is thrown around Washington, it was incredibly STUPID to use it now!
That said, I don’t think Obama meant it either. I think it was just a very poor JUDGMENT call…no surprise…but I honestly don’t think he put two and two together. His audience sure did, but Obama lives in a very small world…his own…and I really, really, really have to agree with Huckabee here.
It was unintentional, but incredibly dumb. He looks really tired in that video too. And you can see that he doesn’t quite get what everyone is laughing at.
Just my opinion.
mk, it really doesn’t matter. He has refused to own up to the way his remarks have been perceived, thereby making himself responsible for those perceptions whether he actually meant them or not.

Oh absolutely. I couldn’t agree more. It was a dumb mistake confounded by his inability to admit he was WRONG…surprised?
My point, was that we need to be careful that we don’t fall into the same routine that the other side has fallen into with Palin…twisting the truth and spreading “lies”…
I don’t think he said it purposely. I think he’s an idiot for saying it accidentally. I think he’s an egomaniac for not apologizing if anyone was offended.
But claiming that he said it on purpose just makes us look bad.
I think that BO is free to do and say what ever he wants and his supporters and the media will always find a way to defend him. He knows this as he thinks he is Apollo Jesus Moses. His arrogance is just appalling. His platform is insane. His lack of military knowledge and experience is frightening. His friendships with criminals is scary and sickening. His support for partial birth abortion is sinful. His books are filled with his hatred of whites and his wife hates WHITES AND AMERICA. His faith is Islamic. What will it take before Nov for ppl to wake up? He is insanely jealous of Palin who is stealing his thunder..and i think he is also jealous of McCain’s experience. His speeches are nothing more then a bunch of rhetoric about what is wrong with AMERICA but no solutions of any kind. Promises he cannot possibly keep. He studders and stammers and in no way are his speeches inspirational.
JUST SAY NO TO BO!
Time spent being offended by “pig” references are exactly what Obama wants! Every ten minutes we work on writing a blog post about how pissed off we are is TEN MINUTES NOT SPENT recruiting another person who wasn’t planning on voting at all this November.
Good grief – it was just last year that McCain was talking about “pigs” and “lipstick” – if ever there was not a big deal….
