CO’s personhood amendment update
These 4 new ads are fabulous, all promoting CO’s Personhood Amendment 48, which simply states, “The term ‘Person’ or ‘Persons’ shall include any human from the time of fertilization.”

Also read this great recent commentary in the Denver Post by CO for Equal Rights’ 20-year-old executive director Kristi Burton. Excerpt:
On Sept. 8, I debated opponents of Amendment 48 on KBDI-Channel 12. Fofi Mendez, who represented the “No on 48 campaign,” was asked by the moderator when life begins. She answered, “Individually, we can all determine when life begins.” In other words, each person decides. For Mendez, “life” includes being able to breathe and walk. This leaves out newborn babies and anyone in a wheelchair or on a respirator.
Her response is simply a further expression of the confused, stale, outdated abortion politics that have dominated the last few decades.

YES! Thank you for posting on this, Jill! These ads are fantastic!
Amendment 48 is opposed by all newspapers in Colorado, the Governor, the Catholic Church, the Colorado Bar Association, the Colorado Medical Society, and dozens of other organizations.
Amendment 48 purports to outlaw abortion, most forms of birth control, and most forms of fertility treatment. Itwould create a legal nightmare, including costing millions in legal fees to be charged to the taxpayers to litigate this blatantly unconstitutional measure.
It is a desperate attempt to implement laws based on religious extremism, by a group that has been described as the “American Taliban”. Fortunately, it is projected to lose by a landslide.
The Catholic Church as a whole does NOT oppose this amendment.
I liked the “FIRE” ad.
Liz, I am refering to the Catholic Bishops of Colorado. National Right to Life also opposes it.
Oh my goodness, just watched the first one and it brought tears to my eyes.
PPC, in this case those 2 are on the same side as Planned Parenthood and NARAL. More than sad. It’s pathetic.
Its possible they fear it won’t pass. Or it will be challenged and won’t be able to go into affect. It’ll be interesting to see what the results are.
I don’t like Howard Stern, but he managed to expose Obama supporters for the complete frauds that they are. Not like that’s hard:

Jill 4:36- horribly flawed laws, like politics, can lead to strange bedfellows sometimes.
Anti-48 radio and television ads have recently hit the airwaves, emphasizing the extreme nature of this proposed amendment.
Unfortunately, any crazy nonsense can get on the ballot in Colorado (18 questions this year), which is apparently why the state was targeted.
Referendum O is designed to discourage having frivolous constitutional amendments put on the ballot, and is likely to pass.
Many Colorado voters remember Amendment 2 in 1992, the “hate state” anti-gay amendment, which was found unconstitutional by the Colorado Supreme Court in 1993 and the US Supreme Court in 1996, and are not anxious to finance another four-year legal battle over an unconstitutional measure promoted by religious extremists.
I hope to confim 48’s loss by a landslide on 11/5.
“Unfortunately, any crazy nonsense can get on the ballot in Colorado”
Yeah, after all, isn’t Obama/Biden on the ballot in Colorado?
Good one John!
Biology 101 facts for those who failed biology:
When the human male’s sperm fertilizes the human female’s egg or ovum, a new life is formed. Its a human. Its not a dog or a cat or a rabbit or a mouse or a gorilla or an elephant or a dolphin. Its a human embryo. Just give the embryo 9 months and it will grow into a full term infant following 9 months of growth.
PPC: ” Itwould create a legal nightmare,”
Bring on the nightmare, PPC….. what is a nightmare for you is a dream for us.
John: It’s kinda like OJ’s trial jury…
Doyle thank you for confirming that the goal of the supporters of 48 is to create a “legal nightmare”, those are the exact words in the ads and editorials against 48.
PPC,
What species of embryo/fetus was resident in your mother’ uterus when she was pregnant with you?
yor bro ken
Hear ye, Hear ye, Hear ye,
Let the record show, and it is unrefuted, that the only species of embryo/fetus that is resident in pregnant womans uterus is ‘human’.
That is right a ‘human’ embryo/fetus.
Respectfully
your lame brained knuckle draggin neanderthal
aka: yor bro ken
ps: A special recognition to the high school sophmore who came up with the question that stupefies trained professional counselors and propagandists. May God bless her 15 year old heart.
Finally a news network is reporting on the Berg lawsuit:

THIS IS THE OCTOBER SUPRISE!!!! LET THERE BE NO DOUBT!!!!
Why do so many pro-choice organizations and individuals claim hormonal contraception doesn’t end post-fertilization life, except when there is a human life amendment on the line? Either it does or it doesn’t; if they are correct and hormonal contraception merely prevents ovulation, then ITS NOT GOING TO BE BANNED in the event of a human life amendment.
Either way, in one case or the other they are lying.
I can’t get the videos to work. They download and then nothing happens. *Sniff*.
This is not new, but this video “Can I Live?” by Nick Cannon is one of my favorites.
Suzanne, maybe you can get this one to work for you!

The first ad is funny, because the “personhood” amendment would outlaw assisted reproduction. I wonder if that little boy knows that he’s speaking for a law that would not allow any more kids like him to be born.
“Like him”, Reality? What in the world is that supposed to mean? You consider him a different species?
Newsflash: That boy is a human being (like the rest of us) and supporting this law would mean more kids “like him” being born!
HERE’S ANOTHER AMAZING AD EVERYONE SHOULD SEE:

Bethany:
What in the world is that supposed to mean?
Isn’t it obvious? Kids resulting from assisted reproduction.
supporting this law would mean more kids “like him” being born!
Wrong. Amendment 48 would ban fertility clinics. No fertility clinics = fewer kids born.
Wrong. Amendment 48 would ban fertility clinics. No fertility clinics = fewer kids born.
Fewer kids being conceived unnaturally, fewer kids being killed. The majority of those children who are being created this way are killed. And I think that’s pretty common knowledge, Reality.
This law would mean that children like that boy above, who was extremely fortunate, could be conceived naturally, and grow to term without having to go through the possibility of being killed by those who are so desperate to have a baby that they would be willing to sacrifice some of their other children to have one.
And if not conceived at all…I think that is far better than being killed after you are conceived.
The Denver City Council passed a resolution last night condemning 48. The disapproval of every civic, governmental, charitable and professional organization in the state should seal its fate.
What remains frightening is that a constitutional amendment whose intent is to displace American democracy with an extremist religious thugocracy similar to Iran and the Taliban would even appear on a ballot in the US.
PPC: “Doyle thank you for confirming that the goal of the supporters of 48 is to create a “legal nightmare”, those are the exact words in the ads and editorials against 48.”
PPC, thank you for lying about what I said. What I said, and what I believe is “what is a nightmare for you is a dream for us.”
And the babies need dreams, too, but they can’t dream after you and your fellow proaborts kill them. Dying is REAL nightmare, not a phony one like you’re talking about.
Prolifejudie, you are either sadly misinformed or intentionally distorting the issue. Establishing personhood for the unborn would not create any new laws, it would only make their application universal for all innocent human beings.
And to my knowledge, no one has proposed outlawing in vitro fertilization. While it is true that the present methods sometimes result in some living embryos (little human beings) being discarded, it would be a simple matter to create only those which you intend to implant, rather than make hundreds just to have one baby.
Granting personhood to the unborn is the right thing to do, the moral thing to do. Fighting personhood with false claims and scare tactics is the wrong thing, the immoral thing to do.
PPC: “What remains frightening is that a constitutional amendment whose intent is to displace American democracy with an extremist religious thugocracy similar to Iran and the Taliban would even appear on a ballot in the US.”
Yes, of course… recognizing the scientific truth that gestating humans are human beings in every sense is obviously something born of religious extremism, right? What an incredible lie…..
Are you willing to punish a woman with the death penalty or life in prison for terminating a pregnancy, whatever her circumstances? To lock up a woman so that she will bring a non-viable fetus to term? Do you want to ban the birth control pill and IUD, thereby causing more unwanted pregnancies?
If yes, then you need a serious reality check. If not, then you shouldn’t support Amendment 48 — because those evils would be the real-life consequences granting fertilized eggs full legal rights. To kill or harm a fertilized egg would be a criminal offense under Colorado law, regardless of the circumstances.
The fact is that Amendment 48 is deeply, profoundly anti-life. For the details, read “Amendment 48 Is Anti-Life: Why It Matters That a Fertilized Egg Is Not a Person,” an issue paper by Ari Armstrong and myself. It’s available for download at:

Christian opponents of abortion are welcome to act on their own beliefs in their own lives. They have no right to force their religious views on the rest of us — just as Muslims have no right to force Christians to pray to Allah five times per day.
Diana,
All the best arguments in favor of the personhood of the embryo do not mention God or religion. To claim that this is a case of Christians “forcing their views on the rest of us” is a red herring.
