Vote for Thomas!
UPDATE, 11/19, 3:15p: Last week I asked you to vote for pro-life blogger Thomas Peters to receive a $10k college scholarship. The CareNet contest today prompted me to ask Thomas about the outcome of his venture. Thomas reported that the contest ends tomorrow, adding:
DailyKos and the ultra-liberal blogs got into supporting #1 with thousands of votes, and all the ESPN-watching sportsfans are pushing hard for the current #2.
Me? Well, holding on to #3 is no small achievement with that sort of competition, and I’m really happy with all the support I’ve received.
Last year 3rd place carried a $1,000 check – so I’ll be able to pay off some loan interest this year. ;-)
_______________
November 14: Young Thomas Peters, blogger extraordinaire at the American Papist, is in the running for a $10,000 blogger college scholarship….
Thomas asked me to ask my readers to vote for him. “The money goes straight to paying off my student loans,” Thom wrote. “Which means less stress about paying them off and more time doing what I love – i.e., blogging.”
Thomas often blogs on the pro-life issue. In fact, I met Thomas when he was covering last year’s March for Life.
Thomas is winning in 3rd place right now. Voting couldn’t be easier. It’ll take 5 seconds, literally. Just click here and click the dot next to Thomas’ name, and that’s it. You’re done. Thomas is currently the top name. Thanks!

Jill, Jill, Jill. Real journalists strive for accuracy (and have at least a modicum of math knowledge) like knowing that as of 10:02 EST 6853>3664. Cameron vs Peters
Your title should more accurately read College Football and Hoops Kicks Papal ….
But hey, thanks for letting us know so we can vote to make sure no more money goes to a “cause” we find abhorrent at worst and ridiculous at best.

He’s 3,000 votes behind the winner, looks like someone else has some help too.
For those of you who may know who he is, Thomas Peters is the son of canon lawyer Ed Peters who appears on Catholic Answers Live sometime son their “Ask a Canon Lawyer” program. Thomas was also featured many years ago on Catholic Answers live when they had the “Kids open forum.” He was the little boy who would answer other kid’s questions. Very cute.
Whoops, missed the tally of the guy beating him, actually 2.
Didn’t know that about Thomas, Bobby!
Rosie,
The other guy who’s leading has a sports blog. It’s going to be tough to beat, but not impossible! He’s a Seattle Mariners’ fan.
Done!
Voted. :)
Jill,
I just clicked on the bar at the top of your blog. I never realized it linked to web talks by Father Frank Pavone. Very nice, thanks!
. . . . . . . . . . . . .
Thomas Peters,
I’m rooting for you. Good luck!
Done.
Wait, so are we supposed to say done after we vote for him? Because I voted for him, but I don’t want to just make a post that says “done”; I want to say “I voted for Thomas!.” So that’s what I”m going to do, despite anyone’s objections.
I voted for Thomas!
Oh, I just said “done” to signify that I had finished reading Jill’s post. I figured people were showing off what fast readers they were and didn’t want to come in last.
Bobby,
I followed Jasper’s lead.
I’ve been an American Papist fan for quite some time now.
His dad often comments on Thomas’ posts which lends (sometimes!) further insight!
I’m rather fond of some of the pictures on his posts too. Especially the one of the tank with that church on it or perhaps one would describe it as a church on a tank. Now that’s what I call the Church Militant!
phylospher: yes very abhorrent that we not only are supporting a young Catholic but one who can defend himself quite ably against the likes of you!
Right on my brother Thomas! Keep it up and keep on keepin’ on!
Ken
He is in a very distant third place. The other two are pulling away.
Didn’t “papist” used to be a term of derision?
Therence,
“Didn’t “papist” used to be a term of derision?”
I’ve never heard that before, so I looked it up.
Apparently the word “papist” was coined during the English Reformation, but is not as common now. I suppose non-Catholics would have used the derogatory term amongst themselves mostly.
From Wiki:
During the 1928 US presidential election, Democratic Party nominee Al Smith was accused of being a papist. He was the first Catholic to ever receive presidential nomination from a major party and this led to fears that, if he were elected, the United States would be ruled by the Vatican.
