New poll/old poll
The new poll question is up:
Who did more to advance the cause of women in 2008?
Choices are Hillary Clinton, Michelle Obama, Sarah Palin, or the ever popular Other.
Here were the answers to last week’s question…
My thought is that while many pro-lifers focus on FOCA, Obama will sign these executive orders, perhaps all at once or in quick succession, and do as much as possible behind the scenes to increase abortion industry funding and ease of accessibility.
Here are your votes. Click on the maps below to get a better view of your own brightly colored flag….
As always, make comments to either this or last week’s poll here, not on the Vizu website.
Hillary Clinton taught women that if they’re married to adulterers or rapists, that’s OK, as long as they can use their husband’s last name as a stepping stone to political power.
Michelle Obama taught women that you don’t have to be white to be an arrogant snob in America.
Sarah Palin taught women that if you’re pro-life, conservative, and Republican, and you decide to run for national office, the media will do everything it can to destroy you.
John,
Good points!
Sarah Palin also taught women that they can be themselves, they don’t have to fit the feminist mold.
Hillary and Michelle seem to fit the mold. Boorring.
Janet, at last count, it cost about $300,000 in clothes, makeup and hair styling, over 2 months, for Sarah Palin to “be herself”. At $1.8 million dollars per year, there are not a lot of women who can afford to “be themselves”.
Well I vote for Mrs McCain. She is full time into causes. I vote Algore at the bottom. He cranks out 10,000 pounds of CO2 per hour and his carbon foot print is 100 times the size of gov Palins Dress print.
Bystander, *yawn* Palin proved herself long before she was ever thrust on the national scene.
sarah palin: she has shown a few of the women’s libers that not only doesn’t she agree with them but that she doesn’t need abortion to be a liberated woman! Amen sister!
Remember the day McCain announced Palin? A lot of you thought that would lift the McCain campaign to victory. I didn’t
She seems like a perfectly nice person, but her days of influence are behind her.
Do you think Sarah Palin will let Trig go hunting? Do you think she’ll let him carry a gun and fire it all by himself? Why not? She does it. On behalf of moose everywhere (yes I’m a moose, that explains everything), I think she should definitely give it the green light.
This should clear thing up:
http://www.slate.com/id/2200606/
“They used scalp electrodes to monitor the neural activity of liberals and conservatives who were engaged in a simple button-pressing task and discovered some significant differences between the two groups. First, the authors said, the conservatives tended to make more mistakes on the task. (Subjects had to press the space bar whenever they saw the letter M flash on a screen but hold back their response when a W turned up instead.) Second, the liberal brain scans revealed “stronger conflict-related anterior cingulate activity, suggesting greater neurocognitive sensitivity to cues for altering a habitual response pattern.” That is to say, liberals were less prone to error and better able to process complex, conflicting information.”
Well it should clear things up if you believe in science…
Hal,
If Sarah Palin hadn’t been McCain’s running-mate, the voting margin wouldn’t have been as close as 52-48.
Bystander,
I don’t think we’ll ever hear the whole story on the shopping spree, but how can you possibly compare $250,000-$300,000 with the hundreds of millions spent by Obama??? Talk about overspending. What Obama spent during his campaign was obscene in my opinion. How many mouths could have been fed and mortgages paid with just a fraction of that money?
why can you pro-lifers be nice and stop this negative talk about
Obama and family, Clinton family and liberals in general.Wasn’t it the republicans who in the last 8 years manage to mess our economy, got kick out of congress for improper conduct and generally destroyed our constitution. What Obama spent was well worth it since he manage to win and finally get rid of bush and the rest of the republican stooges. You pro-lifers profess to be christians but we can tell by the example you show. you seem to hate a lot. that’s not christ preach. Why don’t you try to work with the liberals and come up with good positive ideas.
stooges?, practice what you preach or shutty the mouth.
Sarah Palin has my vote. She prefers to shop at a consignment shop. The campaign spent the money on those clothes. Not her idea….The liberal media doesn’t like her because she chose not to get an abortion.
No, Dick, the failed economy rests sqarely on the shoulders of the Democrats. They were the ones who sued banks to force them to make risky loans. They were the ones who excused Fannie and Freddie when overseers warned we were heading for disaster. They are the ones who resisted regulation.
You, and everyone else, seems to have forgotten that democrats had the congressional majority the past 2 years.
We’re happy to work with liberals on a number of issues, but when one side is saying “it’s ok to have abortion” and one side is saying “it’s not ok to have abortion” there’s not alot of gray area.
Of course, liberals and conservatives are looking an awfully lot more similar when ti comes to fiscal issues so I guess you’re getting your wish on that one.
dick, you are well named.
Sarah Palin, hands down. By accepting McCain’s offer and subsequently and literally thrusting her pregnant teenage daughter onto the world stage in a badly fitted dress with her deer-in-the-headlights boyfriend, Palin gave us a clear reminder that abstinence-only doesn’t work. ( and she should have known this since she herself when she married Todd).
This did a lot for women.
sorry… ” …… when she herself was pregnant when she married Todd.”
Asitis, you are assuming that Palin and her daughter both received only abstinence education.
Besides, if you’re going to use one example to prove that abstinence education doesn’t work, that isn’t very scientific, is it?
No Bethany. Though it might be a fair assumption given that Alaska does not have mandatory comprehensive sex ed and we know that Sarah belives in abstinence-only.
No the point is that abstinence-only is based on the premise that people will delay sex until they are married. That is rare. And it did happen for Sarah nor Bristol.
arrrrgh. Sorry. ” …. Did NOT happen for Sarah nor Bristol”
I did not say their two cases were the PROOF Bethany. I said she gave us a valuable reminder. But nice try Bethany-I’ll give you that!
Asitis, why then are all of the millions of sex ed teens with STD’s not daily reminders that comprehensive sex ed doesn’t work?
By the way, I’m glad that Sarah Palin showed the world what to do when your teenaged daughter becomes pregnant; Give that daughter support and love her through her pregnancy. Show her that you don’t judge her for it. Love her baby and cherish it as a blessing, not abandon and kill it because of mere circumstance. Would anyone here have preferred it if Sarah had been totally embarrassed by what her daughter did, and encouraged her daughter to have an abortion? Anyone willing to step out and say it- pro-“choicers”?
Sarah Palin is a wonderful example for women out there. I think she has probably saved many many lives just through her great example.
this country’s high teen sex and STD rates are evidence that sex we has to be taught better. And it has to be mandatory ( not all school districts teach it). And parents and educators and society need to send a clearer message to teens as to what the expectations are.
this country’s high teen sex and STD rates are evidence that sex we has to be taught better.
Why then isn’t Bristol’s pregnancy evidence that abstinence education has to be taught better? (Since your premise is that she was taught abstinence only.)
And it has to be mandatory ( not all school districts teach it).
Aren’t you one of those who feels the government shouldn’t be involved in our sex lives?
How is mandating comprehensive sex ed NOT getting the government involved in our sex lives?
And parents and educators and society need to send a clearer message to teens as to what the expectations are.
You mean “clear” like,
“You probably should try to limit your sex to one partner and should probably wait till you’re in love…but in case you don’t, here’s a pack of condoms and birth control…cause we really don’t think that you can control yourself.”?
@6:20…. You mean why is’nt it evidence that it needs to be taught better? With80% of teens and almost all adults having sex before marriage, it just doesn’t work. It didn’t even work in the Palin home where the mother is believes in abstinence -only.
@ 6:21….. Gov’t is not getting involved in sex lives. If you read the propose curriculm it is very inclusive . I like that aspect
@6:23…. The right direction bethsny .but along with it there needs to be education on use and risk factors. Countries that do it the best (lowest prey and STD rates for teens) are actually accepting of teen sex. But that will be a big stretch for most people on here i realize
1.) What percentage of teens are learning abstinence ed as opposed to being taught comp sex ed? It seems hypocritical to imply that abstinence education won’t work, when you haven’t even taken a serious look at abstinence ed or the results of it (studies from Planned Parenthood or SEICUS obviously aren’t going to be objective either). Obviously, comp sex ed hasn’t been working yet. That’s sooooo obvious, and you just say they need MORE of it. Kids know more about birth control these days than they know about the geography of America.
hmm…I have a hypothetical problem. My bathroom sink keeps leaking. I keep trying to plug the hole with elmers glue, but for some reason, it still leaks. I guess what I need MORE elmers glue…that will solve the problem!
@ 6:21….. Gov’t is not getting involved in sex lives. If you read the propose curriculm it is very inclusive . I like that aspect
2.) Really? The Government can teach what it wants about sex to our children, and can hand our children condoms and birth control pills, and can even offer abortions to girls (without parental knowledge even) should their birth control fail, and the government is not involved? Hmm…how does that work exactly?
3.) I was asking how that was clear, Asitis. I think it is very obscure and not clear at all.
I’ll have to come back later for anything new that is posted. No more time to post tonight. Have a good night! :)
3) it’s a whole lot clearer than telling teens and young adults that premarital sex is bad and they aren’t to do it when we know know full well that the vast majority do. Countries with low rates are very clear….. But their message isn’t yours.
Bethany you can find lots of stats at http://www.guttmacher.org. Even if you just look at the data.
You and I have been round and round this many times already. We won’t change each other’s mind.
“What Obama spent during his campaign was obscene in my opinion.”
It also led to the Obama campaign being one of the best campaigns in all of US history.
“Sarah Palin has my vote. She prefers to shop at a consignment shop.”
That’s funny. Last I read, the contributors crapped themselves when they saw just how much money she spent on herself, her husband, and her children. I don’t remember Obama using his campaign money on his families wardrobe? I sometimes watch Fox News, just to see what the “other side” has to say.. and I’m sure they would’ve mentioned that.
I wonder how old some of you are when you talk about sex ed in school. It seems like some of you believe they’re telling us sex is great and giving out condoms in class or something. Sex ed at my high school was STRICTLY about reproduction. They taught about STDS, too. That’s pretty much it. They DID tell us the only thing that’s 100% effective is abstinence. They also told us condoms make sex safer. I don’t remember ever hearing about the pill or anything. No one was telling us sex is okay. No one was telling us if we had sex we’d “get chlamydia and die” (Mean Girls, anyone?)
I’m not sure what you think is really going on at schools, but it sounds like you’re really mistaken.
I figure Sarah gets 2 parts of the vote, Michelle gets 3 parts, and Hillary gets 5 parts.
Josephine,
Some of us are young like you and some of us are older. We all have some things to learn. Did they explain abortion to you in school? What it is, what it does? How it kills a growing baby and harms women? If they didn’t how is that comprehensive??
I had to LOL about what you wrote about the Obama campaign. :)
Come on, Asitis. Guttmacher is the research arm of planned parenthood. It is anything but objective.
That’s why I suggested you yourself use it for the data only.
Okay, agreed. And you can use data from the Heritage Foundation on Abstinence Edutation. :-)
Oh and Josephine,
Some of us have children in public school and are very involved in what they are being taught in regards to sex ed. :)
Good morning Virginia and Bethany!!
Good morning, Carla! :)
Doug, why in the world should a first lady who’s main accomplishment this election cycle was denigrating our country be considered more of a role model than a woman who was both a Governor and a VP nominee?
Dang it. who’s should be whose.
Lauren, Jill put her in the poll for something….
Perhaps because she lacks the big negatives that so many people see with Palin?
Carla, unless you yourself are there everyday.. you can’t know exactly what they’re saying.
Nope, we never learned about abortion. And, my comment was in regard to the fact that I pretty much JUST graduated. I probably know more about what’s going on in high school than most of the people on here.
“Obama put together one of the most impressive campaign operations of all time. And for a rookie candidate to make so few mistakes (and no major ones)–that’s quite amazing.”

My school district sends home ALL sex ed curriculum to be taught before it is taught. We get a chance to read through it, discuss it, ask questions and opt our children out if we are uncomfortable with it. Also gives us a chance to have great discussions at home.
I do not have to be there everyday to be involved. Although I wouldn’t mind doing music, art and phyed for old times sake.
:)
Oh. My. Stars.
An almost flawless campaign. You are killing me, girl.
The article link doesn’t support your claim.
Josephine, I agree. It was an impressive, steady campaign
My school district sends home ALL sex ed curriculum to be taught before it is taught. We get a chance to read through it, discuss it, ask questions and opt our children out if we are uncomfortable with it.
Carla, some of the parents are probably learning a few things too.
I heard a mom comment the other day that middle schoolers learn more than she knows!
asitis, almost everyone agrees except the super-uber-conservatives… that’s why Obama’s campaign manager, David Plouffe, got a book deal.
I can’t really remember any major flaws. Can you tell me about some, Carla?
I didn’t say flawed. You quoted one sentence from the article directly and then it went on to talk about McCain, Joe the Biden and his major flubs, the obvious media bias toward Obama and how Palin was grilled about her religion(speaking in tongues?)and not Obama nor Biden.
Doug,
Most parents(and commenters here)seem to skip conception. You know, “sperm meets egg and creates a new, unique human being” part. Might want to brush up on that, Doug. :)
Why, Carla?
Only 111 votes last time around?
I forget if you accept the scientific fact that life begins at conception.
It is so hard to keep all of the PC reasons for supporting abortion straight.
You are in the “don’t force a woman to carry a child against her will” camp, right?
An almost flawless campaign. You are killing me, girl.

? How?
Just a saying, Josephine.
Like I am laughing so hard it’s killing me.
