Why did Obama withdraw funding for adult stem cell research?
UPDATE, 8:50p: Ok, I’m totally going off topic now. I mentioned at the bottom of this original post what 1st impressed me about Josh was his ability to play piano and talk to me at the same time. So I’ve just been made aware of this new video of Josh playing piano and drums at the same time. Yeah, my friend Josh…
_______________
4:30p: Josh Brahm of CA RTL has just posted his 2nd Science Matters report on YouTube….
On the same day Obama authorized taxpayer funding of human embryo experimentation last month, he also rescinded President Bush’s executive order authorizing funding of alternatives, i.e., adult stem cell research.
In the next of Josh’s well done and interesting reports, he wonders why, listing 3 possibilities.
I agree with Josh on the #3 option: Disengenuous. It can really only be Obama wants to thwart ascr… do what he can to make escr work, which includes getting rid of the competition.
If you look at Obama’s history, particularly how he won his IL Senate seat and US Senate seat – by literally getting rid of the competition – this is his pattern.
On a personal note, keep an eye on Josh. He’s an up-and-comer in the pro-life movement. I met him several years ago when he was the teen liaison at GA RTL and knew then he had potential, particularly when he wowed me by playing piano (very well) while conversing with me at the same time…. :) But seriously, Josh is gifted in the areas of pro-life apologetics and communication. Am grateful he is involved in this work full-time.

Off-Topic but Important!!!!
Citizen grand jury indicts Obama!!!!!!!
Groups in 20 more states reviewing eligibility claims The indictment delivered to state and federal prosecutors yesterday is one of the developments in the dispute over Obama’s eligibility to be president under the U.S. Constitution’s requirement that presidents be “natural born” citizens. http://wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=93481 http://americangrandjury.org/
What many have observed in Obama is a morally conflicted young man who often says one thing, and then goes about doing the opposite. The piece by Josh captures this point well when comparing what he said during his courtship of the American voter, to now the reality of Obama as our chief executive. Another example of this conflictednesss is that when making the announcement of the release of federal funding, he spoke very movingly of his belief in the promise ESCR would bring to finding cures, and yet as a state senator in Illinois he adamantly refused appeals by his colleagues to support legislation that would ease the suffering of a baby born alive during a failed abortion attempt.
To answer Josh’s inquiry as to what the motive was for his rescinding of support for ASCR, there are a couple more possibilities. One is payback to special interests who are especially supportive of ESCR. Another reason has to do with pathology.
The latter is something we have seen a lot of among professionals who have abused their positions of trust and authority. Some do these things for no better reason then that they can. Others fall prey to temptations of greed and/or lust. Still others have deep seeded sociopathic obsessions that surface in unexplainable behaviors.
One of these behaviors is a need to lie, even when the truth is known to them. It is an extension of the need to control and manipulate. They have no conscience, and all of their actions and plans have to do with advancing their own interests above all others.
Adult Stem Cells Are Considered Drugs!
There is a group of physicians, patients and other interested people working together to get treatment with adult stem cells legalized in the U.S. as it should be. The organization was formed in response to the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) recent position that the adult stem cells found in everyone’s body are drugs. Please ask your family and friends to sign up (“JOIN”), and get as many doctors to sign up as well. Please see The American Stem Cell Therapy Association (ASCTA) site

James, go sell crazy somewhere else, we’re obviously all stocked up here.
Them pro-lifers is some talent folks, they is!
“I agree with Josh on the #3 option: Disengenuous. It can really only be Obama wants to thwart ascr… do what he can to make escr work, which includes getting rid of the competition.”
I agree.
I seen many drummers but not ones who can drums and piano at the same time. And that piano riff from SHA is not easy. impressive.
Here’s a link to the NoBama EO that killed adult stem cell research: http://edocket.access.gpo.gov/2009/pdf/E9-5441.pdf
Reading Jasper’s comment after Jacqueline’s made me laugh and laugh. You really seen that, Jasper?
How about the fact that Nobama is a big fat liar.
He has made statements to appear to be reasonable and electable.
He is a serial liar who can’t keep his own stories straight. I also agree that he is somehow trying to payback those who supported his campaign financially.
I don’t think that he yanked funding for the adult stem cells because he’s evil. Perhaps it was an economical reason? Or perhaps he felt that enough has been done in adult stem cells that embryonic stem cells need the finances now? I have no idea, though I do disagree with him. Adult stem cells showed more promise than embryonic stem cells.
But even more exciting, the fact that, as Dr. Oz told Ms. Winfrey and Mr. Fox a couple of posts ago, the stem cell debate is over! Hooray! So this ban on embryonic stem cells of Bush’s actually helped people with diseases by forcing scientists to think outside of the box and they found non-debatable answers. Good day.
Vannah, Dr. Oz may have said it, but the debate is quite obviously not ‘over’. For him it may be, but for thousands of other scientists and doctors, as well as for most of the country, it certainly is not.
Erin,
“most of the country” are not scientists or doctors and do not have a clue when it comes to the specifics of this debate. Where are these thousands of doctors who still believe in the potential for ESCR?
Wow, I had no idea he withdrew adult stem cell funding. That’s really perplexing and disappointing.
Well Alexandra, don’t be perplexed and disappointed. Obama didn’t do anything affecting adult stem cell funding.
It is yet another far right wing lie, the stock in trade on this website.
Jason’s “talents” apparently include lying about matters of public record, while playing several musical instruments. What a gift.
Whats the chance that anyone will post a correction that Obama didn’t cancel any funding for Adult Stem Cell Research?
Or is this only a place to attack, never admit a mistake?
Well, he did BinkyBoy. Read this http://www.wesleyjsmith.com/blog/2009/03/untold-story-radical-obama-also.html and then read this http://www.whitehouse.gov/the_press_office/Removing-Barriers-to-Responsible-Scientific-Research-Involving-Human-Stem-Cells/ where Obama rescinds Executive Order 13435 and then you may read Executive Order 13435 here http://repairstemcell.wordpress.com/2009/04/09/executive-order-13435-expanding-approved-stem-cell-lines-in-ethically-responsible-ways/ .
There is the part in Sec.1 about money not going towards ESCR, but that’s just the funds that were set aside for this particular order. It does not “ban ESCR” or anything like that in general, so there was no need to rescind this order, except for the fact that Obama is ideologically driven by a hatred of everything Bush.
I wonder if Bystander will ever respond. I wish we could have profile “tags” so that we could hold other’s posts up until they stand up to the scrutiny. Too bad the punks can hit and run post and never actually stop to discuss.
Oliver, you and Bobby wish to rely on wing nut
blogs for your “information”. There is NO evidence in any recognized or authoritative scientific publication to support your claim that Obama de-funded adult stem cell research. If it were true, I’m sure there would be multiple recognized and trusted sources for that information.
Believe what you wish, but don’t insult those of us who don’t subscribe to your wing nut theories.
Let’s be serious for a moment. Stem cell research is literally a multi-billion dollar industry. Thousands of scientists have staked their careers on it. Whole university departments and thousands of researchers depend in part on federal funding of stem cell research.
If Obama, as you say, cut off all federal funding for adult stem cell research and effectively stopped this multi billlion dollar industry in its tracks, don’t you think that would be reported somewhere other than “do wacka do dot com”? Like the New England Journal of
Medicine or a few thousand other recognized scientific publications? Are you serious?

Read it for yourself. I posted the pertinent links from the White House which said what the Order was that Obama rescinded and then posted a link to the text of the order that was rescinded.
You must have only looked at the first link I posted and not the rest.

What are you talking about? Again, here is the official statement from the White House http://www.whitehouse.gov/the_press_office/Removing-Barriers-to-Responsible-Scientific-Research-Involving-Human-Stem-Cells/ where at the bottom it says
“(b) Executive Order 13435 of June 20, 2007, which supplements the August 9, 2001, statement on human embryonic stem cell research, is revoked.”
Here is the text of Executive Order 13435 http://repairstemcell.wordpress.com/2009/04/09/executive-order-13435-expanding-approved-stem-cell-lines-in-ethically-responsible-ways/
No one made any claims about “cutt[ing] off all federal funding for adult stem cell research.” It was just THIS particular order. It was, as the title said, an EXPANSION of funds for adult stem cell research. Let’s cut out the strawmen.
So there is the evidence. There are the pertinent documents.
The title of this article is “Why did Obama withdraw funding for adult stem cell research?”
Obviously Bobby wants to play games, rather than acknowledge the simple truth-that Obama didn’t withdraw funding for adult stem cell research.
Yup Bystander, that’s what I do. I love to play games. Thanks for taking the time to read the links I posted and engage in a serious discussion. Pleasure talking with you.
The title of this article is a lie, pure and simple. Bobby has no credible sources for his position that Obama withdrew funding for adult stem cell research. End of story.
Wow, you’re an extremely unreasonable human being, Bystander.
Then ignore, Bystander. Bystander is only interested in being ignorant and we do him a disservice through going off-topic.
Anyways, back on topic, it’s so nice to have a more vocal scientific voice in the pro-life movement to help shatter the stereotype that pro-lifers are “anti-science” by arguing using science in abortion debates. He seems like an accomplished fellow! God bless him.
