This was great. Reminds me of my late uncle (who was a musician on The Lawrence Welk Show) & my aunt. They loved to play music like this together, thanks :)
Very funny!
klynn73,
Your uncle must have been talented. My grandparents danced on the Lawrence Welk Show (during the audience participation part of the show, not on stage or anything). Those were the days, huh? :)
This is really cute! It reminds me of my grandma and her sister playing the piano.
I grew up watching the Lawrence Welk show. Norma Zimmer’s father taught my great-uncle violin.
I enjoyed Welk’s show and really enjoyed reading his autobiography. He worked very hard and was very ambitious in obtaining his first quality accordian (which cost $400 back in 1920).
He was 17 years old and promised his father he would turn give him every penny that he earned from farmwork and performing at barn dances. He promised his father he would stay on the farm for four years and he stayed true to his promise even though he didn’t like farmwork.
Klynn73,
I have a metal serving tray with a picture of Welk’s orchestra. Would he be in that photo or was his time with Welk later than that? I don’t know of the year that it was taken but I suspect it was early in his career.
Lawrence Welk grew up in ND not far from where I grew up!! Loved his show!!

I don’t know exactly when it was, nor which of the many instruments he played was the one he played on LW. I ought to ask my dad if he knows.
