Next on reality tv: Virgin auction
I expect liberal feminists won’t mind this, since they support those formerly known as prostitutes: “sex workers.” From the New York Post, today:
A reality show that promises to sell off 3 virgins to the highest bidder is – to say the least – raising a storm of controversy on 2 sides of the Pacific….
The show is the brainchild of an Australian filmmaker, Justin Sisley [pictured above], and will be made for TV there. But, as of yesterday, the show was set to be filmed in NV.
The 3 virgins – 2 women and 1 man – are to be paid $20k each plus 90% of their “sale price” to take part in the auction, according to a report in the Sydney Daily Telegraph.
Australian authorities forced Sisley to move production of the show out of the country, threatening to charge him and the virgins with prostitution if they went through with their original plan.
But in NV, prostitution is legal.
“Technically, I’m selling my virginity for money,” a 21-year-old woman named Veronica told the paper. [See Veronica’s interview below.]
Technically, that would be classified as prostitution.
“But it’s not going to be a regular thing, so in my head I can justify that I’m not going to be a prostitute,” she said. “I don’t think I’ll regret it.”
The male virgin, identified only as Alex [pictured left], said he volunteered for the show as a way to meet a woman.
Sisley says the parents of the young people involved “hate me.”
According to the casting notice, the show entails “our camera follow[ing] the principal cast… as they shed their virginity to a complete stranger in front of a worldwide audience.”
Flyers of the Virgin Mary, with the words “Virgins Wanted,” were posted in several Australian cities in recent months, seeking applicants.

This is actually not a new phenomenon. I recall a few news stories over the past few years about young women auctioning off their virginity (on their own) through ebay or whatever. But in my mind, this show is worse because the producers are essentially pimping.
Ugh, it’s discouraging to me to see these young people have absolutely no respect for themselves. I wish they could see how undignified this is. Virginity is a treasure that should be given in love to one’s spouse, not to the “highest bidder”.
What if the “highest bidder” turns out to be some greasy old pervert? What then? I wonder if they get to say “no” if the “winner” is some kind of psycho.
I am not understanding how this can be legal other than the fact that it’s being filmed in NV — surely there is a legal way around this — for instance if the “loss” takes place outside of the state of NV or something, then it would be illegal. This is truly sick to me and shows where this world is going.
This director is not thinking up anything new. There was a bad 90’s movie, American Virgin, who’s plot was basically this. I remember thinking that that would never happen in real life. I do feel nauseous, though, knowing that this will now happen for real. I just want to go up to that girl and be like, wait!–you’re worth it! So sad.

Umm….. You will get paid for having sex with someone. Duh! What prostitution is then? Oh wait, it all will be on camera…. Oh, that’s different then, you get to be a porn star! It makes me cringe…. totally…. I just can’t believe this, reminds me of movie “Taken”, where young ladies were kidnapped and sold as sex slaves for the highest bidder (the virgin one was especially expensive). Here they go and enter this situation by their own free will…. No wonder women and girls trafficing is such widespread business, with movies and TV shows like that, shoving that a female is no more than an object to be bought and sold, and it gets extra value if not “spoiled”…

Agree completely. I don’t think they’ll have a “no” for this one, but I’m pretty sure the bidders will be screened and evaluated first, so they look good on camera. Still, you never know how pervert in their mind they might be, just the idea of someone buying a virgin says a lot about the person. The man MUST have some sort of dysfunction to want to pay a big price for a virgin, as more than one man I had an open talk with, complained what a “hard work” a virgin is (physically)…
Aren’t any of these people worried about STD’s? I would be! And how could you have sex with someone you don’t even know? Especially your first time which is awkward and nerve-wracking enough…to do it with someone you have no love for…I just can’t imagine it.
What a shame to keep your virginity that long just to throw it away.

This is sick, the guy producing this show looks like a creep!
The feminists won’t like it b/c they absolutely bristle at the notion that a woman’s virginity is anything to be prized even if it’s being cheapened and exploited like it is here. It’s not the market they’ll have a problem with, but the notion that virgins should be able to “fetch” more at auction. I guarantee they won’t be able to stand it.

Besides casting the show, the production company still needs to find sponsors and a network to air it. Using the image of the Virgin Mary is unimaginative in addition to being totally disrespectful. I doubt this project will ever see the light of day.
CT, I actually read an article about a young woman who did this (on her own, not for a tv show.) Essentially she said that she had been somewhat sheltered during her highschool years and had been “enlightened” during college and realized that her virgiinity was something she could capitalize on after a series of women’s studies classes.

It used to be you could NOT ‘have your cake and eat it too’ but in todays ‘brave new world’ platic surgeons can ‘re-flower’ the cake.
Some females are afforded multiple opportunities to make a first impression.
Therefore the status of the ‘female virgin’ can be somewhat ambiguous, but what ‘bone fides’ can a male produce to establish that he has not been sexually active?
Has the social stigma attached to being a post pubescent ‘virgin’ reached the point where the shame would keep a person from confessing that they have never had sex?
