- Secular Pro-Life notes how the FDA is planning on putting graphic images on cigarette packages and draws parallels to the pro-life movement:
The parallels to pro-life images are hard to miss. Many children’s lives have been saved by images of the results of abortion. Smoking, like abortion, is a legal choice that the government seeks to dissuade in order to save lives. And, just as abortion businesses fight informed consent laws, cigarette manufacturer R.J. Reynolds is planning a lawsuit to protect its bottom line.
- At Time, Bonnie Richman discusses George W. Bush’s account of seeing his miscarried sibling and how women react to seeing their miscarried children:Looking at the fetus, touching and holding it is healing, says [Kristen Swanson, dean of the nursing school at the U of NC – Chapel Hill]. Yet it’s not socially acceptable. Who would dare take issue with a parent holding a sick, dying child? Yet looking at, let alone holding, a fetus makes society cringe.
Women who’ve miscarried aren’t repulsed, though. When Swanson has counseled them, she specifically asks whether they saw the fetus. They look at her, their eyes well up and they begin to describe what they saw — buds of limbs, miniaturized perfection — and then they start sobbing. “Every time this happens, you know they’ve invited you into a sacred space of something deeply personal that they get very little opportunity to talk about,” she says.
- An OH man was arrested after damaging a church’s pro-life crosses display:27-year-old Robert Nicholl was charged Tuesday with disorderly conduct while intoxicated and criminal damaging.Police say he pulled up some of the 2,000 small white crosses on the lawn outside St. Cecilia Roman Catholic Church and tossed them into the street. The church told The Cincinnati Enquirer it wasn’t able to say how many crosses were destroyed.
I was waiting for those cigarette labels to get mentioned on here! I saw about those on the news last night and that was almost the first thing I thought of.

Exactly. Forbidden grief.
Putting graphic images on cigarette boxes is problematic for the same reason that raging ideologues carrying around pictures of aborted fetuses is: it assumes that the target audience is comprised of idiots who are completely ignorant about whatever it is the images are trying to depict. As if, somehow, in 2010, after heavily-publicized trillion-dollar class action lawsuits against cigarette manufacturers and explicit written warnings on cartons, there could still be an appreciable number of people who are not aware of the health risks associated with smoking. Or that the termination of a fetus results in a terminated fetus.
News item:

It seems these goons are everywhere. In this instance Mr. Nicholl destroyed a pro-life display. Again this election cycle we had numerous incidents of election signs being stolen or vandalized, and it is almost always the pro-life candidates this happens to. I wonder if the FBI will swoop in on this guy (yeah, right!) If it was a pro-choice display that got vandalized you can imagine the outcry from the leftist media.
The politicial prostititutes have been complicit in creating nicotine addicts of all ages, gender and ethnicity. and nationality.
Taxes on tobacco produces ‘mucho dinero’ to be mis and mal-appropriated.
Thus we still have a legal product that when used correctly results in poverty, disease and death.
The tobacco industry knows which side of the toast to butter:
BOTH!
If money is the mother’s milk of politics, then the symbiotic relationship between the political prostitutes and big tobacco and the abortion industry is as dysfunctional and co-dependent as that between any crack whore and her pimp.
[Apologies to ‘authentic whores’ everywhere. I use the term ‘whore’ in a non-gender specitic manner.]
The abortion industy is just another cash cow for the political prostitutes. They have no more compassion for the victims of abortion than they do for the nicotine addicts as long as the money continues to flow into their political coffers. No matter that the money expended by the federal government to apply bandaid solutions to a problem it has facilitated is less than the tax revenue it generates.
Tha abortion industy, like the tobacco industry, skims the money for the slush funds, before the tax man takes his bite. Then the political prostiutes kick back money to the pimps of both industries in subsidies and grants.
Organizations like ‘planned parenthood’ [pp] continue to provide a steady stream of cash to the ‘political prostitutes’ [pp] from the profits from a problem they have both exagerated and exacerbated by the predictable and preferred FAILURE of their ‘soutions’.
“It is illogical to fund an oraganization to solve a problem which profits more from FAILURE of their solution, than from it’s success.”
Joan: The World Health Organization states that placing graphic images on tobacco packaging is an effective way to reduce smoking. It’s not that people are all idiots. It’s that there’s a difference between knowing something in a purely intellectual sense, and really getting it because you’ve seen it. The emotional reaction is precisely the point:
“Well-designed health warnings and messages are part of a range of effective measures to communicate health risks and to reduce tobacco use. Evidence demonstrates that the effectiveness of health warnings increases with their prominence. In comparison with small, text-only health warnings, larger warnings with pictures are more likely to be noticed, better communicate health risks, provoke a greater emotional response and increase the motivation of tobacco users to quit and to decrease their tobacco consumption. Larger picture warnings are also more likely to retain their effectiveness over time and are particularly effective in communicating health effects to low-literacy populations, children and young people.”
Yes – and I hope that all those people who complain about CPC’s not posting proper information will be the first to line up and demand that they (the abortion providers) put up warning pictures on what a baby looks like after a woman’s abortion.
I had a woman, mother of 4, go for an ultrasound of her unborn child. She had not had an ultrasound so early in her pregnancy and had no idea that the baby had arms, legs, a head and a beating heart at such a young age. Her baby at 7 weeks was moving, jumping and waving. She was overwhelmed and happy. We just found out that she is having a little girl. YAY.
We just got her furniture, bedding and other help. She is doing great.
