Lunch Break: Ezra Klein “Constitution has no binding power on anything.”
To give us a break from the daily grind…
Yesterday we witnessed a great patriotic video. Today we witness a patriotic buffoon.

mr. klein,
with any due respect.
Have you ever read ‘The Federalist Papers’?
Do you own a dictionary?
Do you have access to the internet?
History is replete with examples where american men/women who were so blinded by their own ambition and prejudice that they refused to recognize some africans and indigenous americans as fellow and equal human beings.
Is that your excuse for your ignorance? Your paritisanship and your bigotry?
Are you aligning yourself with the old dixiecrats who missed the point and wen to extraordinary lengths to do so when it came to the less than equals in their eyes?
As the host noted in your introduction the constitution and the bill of rights are over 200 years old [I beleive she said 223 years.], but most of the document is written in terms that are relevant and coherent today.
Therer are some phrases that might require a modicum of reading to understand their meaning today.
‘Corruption of blood’, ‘bill of attainder’, letter of ‘marquee’,etc.
Only willfull ignorance or laziness or dishonesty could explain your claimed inability to understand the constitution.
Or maybe you were not referring to your inability, but to that of Joe and Jill Six Pack. You know. Your fellow americans. Those ‘tea party’ people who introduced a bunch of liberal/progressive/humanist politicians to the experience of being ‘unemployed’.
Suggest you read former slave Frederick Douglass’ autobiography , ‘My Bondage and My Freedom’. Douglas was a self educated ‘black’ man who not surived but excelled in post civil war america. Abraham Lincoln referred to Douglas as his ‘friend’ and selected him to serve in his administration.
That was about 100 years before democRAT Lyndon Johnson and his ‘great society’ destroyed black american families. Something even slavery could not do.
Ezra, you should apply for federal assistance. As a liberal you would surely qualify under the ‘americans with disabilities act’.
Klein explains the remark:

Yes indeed Mr. Klein the Constitution has been “interpreted” according to political ideology.
Let’s see. Segregation was found to be “constitutional” though one cannot find segregation specifically mentioned in the constitution.
The mass “internment” i.e. imprisoning of Japanese American citizens was also found to be “constitutional” though any reading of the Constitution would find this a gross violation of the Constitution.
Maybe th problem isn’t the “complexity” of the Constitution but the people in power who abuse it for their own purposes. For example Franklin Roosevelt wanted Japanese-American citizens “interned” so the Supreme Court, upon which sat former KKK lawyer Hugo Black, gave their sanction. See how easy it is!

Klein explains the remark:
===============================================================
well that settles everything.
Klein explains his remark.
Let us run the explantion thru the ‘transmogrifier’.
“If you people are so stupid you cannont understand my words, then you are surely too stupid to understand the constitution.”
Well, Ex-RINO words mean things and when we encounter a word which we do not understand we can go to a ‘dictionary’ to discover it’s meaning.
Now there are many subjects which are beyond the grasp of my understanding.
Calculus and Lord of the Rings for example.
But I can I can handle geometry and the basic English language.
I can read the history of the constitution and the biographies of the men who authored it. James Madison for instance.
There are not too many words in the document that I do not use in everyday conversation.
Where things get goofy is when men with an agenda, which they deem more important than truth, use pure power to manipulate words to make them mean what they want them to mean.
That kind of arrogance gave us more than a century of slavery, broken treaties and forced relocation of people who were on this continent hundreds of years before the first caucasians arrived, interment camps for fellow citizens, some of whom who’s families had been here for generations, and more than 50 million murdered pre-natal infants.
Hi Ken,
On another thread a poster tried to argue that the internment of Japanese Americans was not racially motivated. So what if a former KKK lawyer was on the Supreme Court? That doesn’t suggest any possibility of bias. Sure, I bet sanctioning segregation wasn’t racially motivated either. I asked this poster if she was interested in buying some ocean front property in Montana.
Oh and Ken,
Shouldn’t someone remind little Ezra that the right to gun ownership is specifically mentioned in the Constitution so gun owners at least have a legitimate argument there.
I love the PMSNBC slogan “Lean Forward”. What genius dreamed that up? It should be followed with “and grab your ankles”. Very appropriate for a left wing show.
Ken – if you wish, you can leave response’s on his blog – I’m just posting his response. I fact check about everything these days, and look for the full story.
