Natalie Portman: Baby beats Oscar
One of the most exciting things about being pregnant is that I’m accepting the complete unknown. It’s a complete mystery and miracle. It’s really just accepting that I have no idea, which is what all of us live every day….
[It reminds you] where your meaning is, what is actually important in the midst a lot of shiny stuff that is more superficial.
~Oscar-winning actress Natalie Portman, Celebrity-Gossip.net, February 28
What a lovely statement and so very very true. Spoken like a woman pregnant with new life!
I just learned that Natalie Portman is being trashed by Hollywood over her remark that Millepied (Portman’s partner and father of the baby) gave her “the most important role of my life.”
Motherhood.

How wonderful she feels that way! Unfortunately, some women are very fearful of the unknown, and an unexpected pregnancy can be a tipping point for them and they choose abortion. This is where Pregnancy Resource Centers are so helpful. Scared women receive the emotional and physical support they need to carry their pregnancy and very often for years to come. Knowing someone is with them in their journey makes all the difference.

Oh, whatever. Shouldn’t Natalie have the CHOICE to fill that motherhood is the most important role in her life?

and its different than playing a pregnant woman in star wars episode 3….this time she has real life inside. Best Wishes to her for healthy pregnancy.

Good for her. It’s always good to see someone excited about her pregnancy. Shame on the pro-deathers who want to steal her joy.

I can’t say enough how much I love Natalie Portman. I really admire how intelligent, humble, and talented she is. Our entire family will go and see any film she’s in. And I bet that she’ll make a great mom.
This quote only demonstrates how eloquent she is! :)

I hear that that at one time Natalie was pro-abortion … looks like LIFE is making a remarkable difference in her life. Many blessings on their family and much encouragement on their journey in LIFE.
I love her attitude. Motherhood is awesome. It makes so many people grow – emotionally, spiritually and the heart loves in a totally different way!
many blessings!!

Joy, she’s probably one of those that says she is “personally opposed” to abortion, but can’t tell another woman what to do with her body, etc. But as far as I know, she’s not active in Planned Parenthood or any other similar organization
I am still having trouble understanding how a woman who has carried a child to term and have felt that child move inside her can say it’s not alive, it’s a blob, etc. . . .

It counteracts nicely the snarky comments that Angel found and linked.

Liz. The list says it was “currently” updated in 2007. I find it ironic that some of the celebrities listed have gone on to become mothers themselves. Some married, some not.

People are mad that she said motherhood was the most important role of her life? Seriously? Not to diminish her professional accomplishments in any way, but I think beng in charge full-time of raising a brand new human being is pretty obviously more important than acting in movies. Parenthood should be the more important role in the life of any parent. Maybe tied for most important with some other things, but if you have kids and you don’t think parenthood is your most important role, “ur doin it rong.”
On a superficial note, I think that after she has the baby she shouldn’t lose all the weight she gained while she was pregnant. I always thought she was too bony-looking to be all that attractive and now she looks great.

In her oscar acceptance speech, Natalie also thanked her parents for giving her life. What a beautiful girl.

I loved that comment also! Go Life!

I loved it when she said that. There was another award winner that night who also said ‘And I want to thank my parents for giving me life’-but for the life of me I can’t remember who. I think its beautiful how these Academy Award winners are giving credit to the whole idea of motherhood for their careers, because they wouldn’t be there if their mothers had not chosen life.
And I doubt Portman gives a damn about what some nobody Slate writer says about her remarks on motherhood as the greatest role in her life: she said those words at the ACADEMY AWARDS, during her ACCEPTANCE SPEECH FOR BEST ACTRESS. I’m glad she won. I haven’t seen Black Swan, but she somehow managed to salvage the role of Padme Amidala in Star Wars because of her great acting.
