Sign petition to FDA: If cigarette warning labels, then abortion warning labels
On June 21 the FDA announced it would begin forcing cigarette companies to post graphic warning labels on packaging beginning September 2012. Its rationale:
“President Obama is committed to protecting our nation’s children and the American people from the dangers of tobacco use. These labels are frank, honest and powerful depictions of the health risks of smoking and they will help encourage smokers to quit, and prevent children from smoking,” said Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius. “President Obama wants to make tobacco-related death and disease part of the nation’s past, and not our future.”
Tobacco use is the leading cause of premature and preventable death in the United States, responsible for 443,000 deaths each year….
Each warning is accompanied by a smoking cessation phone number, 1-800-QUIT-NOW, which will allow it to be seen at the time it is most relevant to smokers, increasing the likelihood that smokers who want to quit will be successful….
The introduction of these warnings is expected to have a significant public health impact by decreasing the number of smokers, resulting in lives saved, increased life expectancy, and improved health status.
First, it must be noted that Obama and Sebelius are liars, feigning concern for “our nation’s children” while doing all they can to enable the abortion industry to continue murdering them, also taking their political contributions all along the way.
Cigarettes claim the lives of 443,000 each year? Abortion claims the lives of nearly 3 times that, 1.2 million each year.
Showing the graphic reality of the harm of cigarette smoking will curb it? Why not do the same for abortion, if the administration really wants it to be “rare”?
To that end, AbolishAbortion.com has launched a petition drive, telling the FDA to force abortion mills to post graphic warning signs “showing women what an abortion really does.”
I have signed on as a cosponsor of this drive. Hope you’ll sign the petition.
More wasted government spending…we have had warnings on the packs for years – I wonder who the illustrator is and just how he/she is connected to the POTUS and how much he/she will make off of this deal. The tobacco companies are going to have to pay a mint in royalties for the illustrations … and the cost of tobacco products will go up … thereby making poor people suffer.
And, Obama, Obama – I thought you were all for the poor people…and, btw, don’t you smoke?
Off to sign the petition –

If Obama really cared about the black community, he would arm them with the facts about abortion. Instead he uses them for their vote and his and his own family’s life of luxury. I live in the inner city of Wilmington, DE., in a section of the city that used to be filled with a lower middle class hard working Polish community, that were proud of their community. This community evolved into an entitlement subsidized society. Homes are now occupied by section 8, food stamp, fatherless families, who if the mother does work, the children run the streets at all hours commonly finding trouble. They throw garbage on their streets and destroy property. planned parenthood is a staple to this community for their contraception and abortions, to further their immoral lifestyles, and most of the clients are really young single black women. Their visits to this place are very much planned and precipatated by pre- meditated events and they can become very hostile when told the facts in a serious and loving manner. I feel so sorry and pray because they have bankrupted their community’s future because of their present lifestyle. I feel my community now closely resembles sodom and gomorrah.

Um, Lee, how is the prive of tobacco going up harm poor people? Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think the federal government’s nose should be in anything we choose to eat, drink, smoke, or otherwise consume (that should be for citizens of individual states to mandate as they wish). But regardless, how is the price of a (uncontestedly bad for you) luxury product that is in no way, shape, or form a requirement for life or even comfortable living, have anything to do with harming the poor?

Shouldn’t the warning label say
WARNING: Smoking during pregnancy can harm your nonsentient, nonviable parasitic clump of cells that isn’t even a baby until it’s born ??!!
And the photo should be like a clump of red grapes. Like I was shown at the abortion mill when I was 10 weeks along.

I can’t see what the petition actually says, unless it’s the description? If I could see the actual petition, I would sign.
Seems kinda poorly done–how can a procedure have a label? You don’t pick it up off a shelf. It should read more like “Before consenting to an abotion procedure or being given an abortion drug, a woman should be shown a picture showing her baby’s stage of development and what abortion will do to an embryo or fetus of that age,” or something.

Jespren…my statement was made in part, tongue in cheek. Of course, tobacco usage is not necessary for life. With the cost of tobacco products going up, those who are addicted will have to pay more – and it will hurt the poor more than it will hurt the rich. I can foresee a day when the government will subsidize those who are addicted to tobacco – giving them extra cash for their addiction – just like the government subsidizes the tobacco industry. And sadly, that last statement is not tongue in cheek.
