“Polar Express” author donates to kill 1/4 of his future customers
It is beyond me why people who make their living from children would support abortion, but here’s another one.
Chris Van Allsburg, author of beloved children’s books Polar Express and Jumanji, , is donating art to Planned Parenthood of Southern New England’s “Choice Art” fundraiser, to be held February 24.

Van Allsburg is giving money to an organization that will purposefully help deplete his target audience by 22% (4.2 mil live birth in US in 2008; 1.2 mil abortions).
Storyteller Len Cabral will also be a PP art contributor.
Sometimes the blindness is appalling.

Defies logic, doesn’t it? Teacher’s unions, Medical professions, insurance providers, even Procter and Gamble — are all the same.
Such a shame.
And ‘if everyone has the right to be healthy’ as the artist says – then:
Why does not everyone have the right to be born??? and
Why is he supporting death to the living unborn? How does that support their physical health?
Well scratch that movie from my list then.
“Dr. Seuss” also supported child killing and his widow still does. I used to always buy Dr. Seuss books for baby showers but not anymore. The disconnect in their brains is appalling. They love kids so much they want to write for them yet they support killing them in the womb. Mkay.
Perhaps we can do a little performance art of our own – all we need is pro-lifer’s to donate 5000 copies of Van Allsburg’s books and we’ll do a little shredding. That’s for the 5000 children killed annually in RI.
Fire up the wood chipper and hum them in.
You know – to raise awareness.
I’ve got about 7 of his books to donate to the pile.
I saw the movie Jumanji and thought it was terrible.
Please keep on giving us the list of proabortion artists, performers, etc., so I can boycott them. I rarely go to the movies because 90 percent of actors are proabort.
Encouraging people to have unwanted children just so you can sell them something seems shady, does it not?
Chris – if you’re going to destroy books, shouldn’t you stick with tradition and burn them?
If you have to buy a book by one of these pro-murder writers, try to get it as a remainder. The publisher takes a loss on those.
No, apostate. We’re just getting ready to catch all the witches. You better shoo.
Oh SNAP!
apostate – no, aborted children are shredded, not burned.
I figure one child – one less book should live.
Besides, the wood chipper makes a hell of a noise sending something through…
Chris – medical waste is disposed of via incineration.
But hey, burning books will make women want to abort less, I am sure, and no one would associate a book destruction party with Hitler or anything. No way.
Carry on!
Chris – medical waste is disposed of via incineration.
Uh…Except when little humans are tossed in dumpsters, or maniacally saved in jars…right apostate?
Everybody has the right to be healthy?
Really? Or dead.
Good thinking, Chris. Shred 5000 previously-sold books that have already generated revenue for their publisher and author, and whose destruction will permanently prevent them from returning to the used book market and thus marginally increase the value of brand new copies. That will definitely send a strong message. With brilliant strategists like you on board, I just don’t see how this movement hasn’t enjoyed greater success in the political arena.
Oh, Apostate of little faith, of course Chris will recycle the shredded books!
Lol! I still love Dr. Suess. There are some things and people I don’t boycott.
LOLOLOL “everyone has the right to be healthy”
ummm what about all those dead babies????
Joy – not sure what teachers unions or medical providers have to do with this at all??? Pretty offensive as my Dad works for an education union, I’m a teacher, and my mom manages a doctor’s office. We’re pro-life.
That’s apostate of NO faith to you, and in this country medical waste is incinerated, which is why the “prolife” movement has to fish abortion waste out of garbage dumps in other countries, or use pictures that are many decades old.
So apostate, please show us real photes of a 12-, 18- and 24-week old unborn child.
Or is that too personal for you?
So, the moderators are upset because I linked Arsenault’s fascist comment to the fascist national anthem. I’m not the only commenter here who made the connection.
As I’ve said here before, you folks are going to marginalize yourselves with that kind of trash.
Burning books riles you up, mp. But littler burnt baby bodies? Nah. That’s liberation.
Still waiting for the real photos.
But hey, burning books will make women want to abort less, I am sure, and no one would associate a book destruction party with Hitler or anything. No way.
One, most people here who raise Nazi analogies do it deliberately and with the full understanding of what they’re discussing. Your usage in this thread is very careless and slap-dash, so I’m’a have to call Godwin. You hereby officially lose the debate.
Two, books are published by the thousands these days. Destroying a few copies because it’s cathartic is a far cry from deliberately trying to destroy every single copy ever, and does not carry nearly the same connotations. …Except in the minds of pearl-clutching ninnyhammers with tender sensibilities, of course.
I’m not interested in whether you think I “lost a debate” by pointing out that burning books is a classic fascist move. But then again someone who would burn books is a loser in general so… :)
If you’re looking for catharsis, try therapy. It appears many of you are in desperate need of it.
Courtnay – you can find pictures of fetal development on medline.
But you are interested in making sure we all know you feel validated in lazy and poorly-thought-out Nazi analogies. Well, then. Good to know your priorities are all straightened out, sugar pea.
“But you are interested in making sure we all know you feel validated in lazy and poorly-thought-out Nazi analogies.”
Lazy and poorly thought out – hm, to me it seemed entirely too obvious NOT to point out. It would have been irresponsible and intellectually dishonest not to. Anyone who ideologically burns books deserves the comparison and you know it.
Apropos of abortion-related art: The second annual Life Fest Film Festival, a pro-life film festival, takes place in Los Angeles this year – LifeFilmFest.com. Support pro-lifers in the arts!
Van Allsburg was never really popular among right wing Christians as his vision doesn’t exactly comport with theirs. But the art auction will net some tidy scarole for our Planned Parenthood. Wonder if the anti-choice street theater will be there to harass the auction goers? And BTW, Len Cabral is awesome. So burn those books, Chris. As if anybody, outside your narrow little religious community, really cares.
Amber Currie, et al : sorry – I should have explained further…
Many teacher unions actually use union dues to support Planned Parenthood. many teachers do not know this – and unwittingly end up supporting Planned Parenthood. The irony, which I should have explained clearer – is that teachers, medical personnel (and others) and businesses like Proctor and Gamble (baby products) actually end up supporting the diminishment of their future clientele.
Please accept my apologies. My comments were not intended to slam any profession or family directly – but was only meant to point out the irony in the donations supporting the opposite of what they do. I should have been clearer. Sorry.
I am very happy about the professions that you and your family is in. You may want to check out the fine print for the union dues – in our area, the teachers’ union supports PP.
Joy – I have never heard anything about this – do you have sources? If it is true I would like to right to the NJEA and NEA if they have any ties.
Amber, my sister was also a teacher and upset at the very liberal and pro-abortion slant of teacher’s unions. It is a profession I would love to see more pro-lifers enter however. We need to take it back from those who champion death.
Burning books riles you up, mp. But littler burnt baby bodies? Nah. That’s liberation.
You just don’t get it, do you?
The editorials are rolling in and it’s evident that you folks have done severe damage to Komen. Planned Parenthood is receiving incredible donation offers. Michael Bloomberg just offered a quarter of a million dollars.
Jill’s clown friend at Komen has not only blown her foot off, she’s also come close to destroying Komen.
Way to go, “pro-lifers!”
Reading comprehension has never been the stronghold of the abortion advocates. Chris suggested:
“we’ll do a little shredding.”
and then he said ‘fire up the wood chipper.’
Wood chippers chop but they don’t burn.
Way to look more ignorant, abortion fans!!
And Komen will be just fine. They don’t need more middlemen just taking up money for nothing. Let that money instead be used to help real health care facilities actually perform real mammograms. All your hating and bitterness, abortion advocates, proves what we’ve been saying all along: You don’t care about women or their health. All you care about is being able to murder children at will, for any or no reason, without apology. I’m adding Komen to my list of donations!
Since you’re all so proud of the new donations that PP is going to get, you can’t whine anymore that women are being hurt by any loss of funding. See, you didn’t need Komen and Komen certainly doesn’t need ‘frenemies’ like you fickle people.
Hey MP, did you hear that Komen’s donations went up 100% in the past two days? Komen is making more money, PP is making up for Komen with new donations. Win-win right? So why are you so bent out of shape?
Lazy and poorly thought out – hm, to me it seemed entirely too obvious NOT to point out. It would have been irresponsible and intellectually dishonest not to.
You’re claiming that by going for the (in your opinion) low-hanging fruit you are not being lazy? Logic. You don’t haz none.
Anyone who ideologically burns books deserves the comparison and you know it.
Ah, no. No they don’t. Because, as I pointed out, burning one copy of a modern book, or even several is not censorship. There are other copies out there that people can get hold of if they like. If someone is deliberately trying to rid the world of every copy of [insert title here], then you can run around with your Nazi comparisons and not get Godwin called on you. Otherwise, you’re pretty much just showcasing your own shrinking violet tendencies.
I’m saying this as a person who loves books and reads all the time. Books are not sacred. They are ink and paper and cardboard and glue. Ideas aren’t even sacred, though they are very, very important. Destroying one book is not the same thing as trying to destroy every copy of it. Venting your irritation on an inanimate object does not equate to trying to censor the ideas it contained. Unless you’re going to go overboard about students ripping their vocabulary workbooks to pieces at the end of a semester, then you’re just being an idiot.
“Hey MP, did you hear that Komen’s donations went up 100% in the past two days?”
The only sources I found for that assertion were two partisan sites Lifenews and Hotair.
If burning books is OK because a person can still get copies of books, then what the Nazis did was ok since they didn’t succeed in any actual censorship. Right? Why do you spend your time defending this stuff by splitting hairs that way? Because a book burning freak happens to agree with you on some other issue?
No one claims books are sacred. Anyone who would BURN books is a kook.
Some idiot buying books to shred or otherwise destroy in an attempt to make some kind of political statement is not even remotely comparable, in intent or method, to an authoritarian regime forcibly seizing and burning dissident literature. It is, however, one of the dumber ideas yet proposed on a site that regularly hosts dumb ideas. If I was an author and I learned that someone plans to buy and then destroy 5000 of my books, I’d be laughing all the way to the bank. In fact, I’d egg them on and try to get them to go for 10000 or 15000 instead. Maybe the publisher could offer them a volume discount?
If burning books is OK because a person can still get copies of books, then what the Nazis did was ok since they didn’t succeed in any actual censorship.
Given that they were trying for censorship, no, that wouldn’t be “ok.” Which I covered already. Try reading the post next time.
Why do you spend your time defending this stuff by splitting hairs that way?
The only way you could possibly read this as splitting hairs is if the entire discussion is flying over your head.
“The only way you could possibly read this as splitting hairs is if the entire discussion is flying over your head.”
Yeah, Alice, you’re so deep and sophisticated, no one understands you.
And yes, what you are doing is splitting hairs. I agree with joan in that in this day and age it doesn’t matter, but are the subtle differences in the types of ideological bookburning really a hill you want to die on?
Amber Currie – check with your own papers regarding the deductions for the union dues. There are some groups that will allow you to consciously object – but many won’t. I’m sorry to be the one to bring this to your attention – but now that you know – check on things. As a pro-lifer – you may be able to make changes in the unions that you and your family deal with.
my prayers are with you. let us know what you find in your particular situation. Good luck with everything!
“It is, however, one of the dumber ideas yet proposed on a site that regularly hosts dumb ideas”
I can’t decide whether it’s as dumb as comparing Randall Terry, who Stanek doesn’t even support for president, to Ronald Reagan and Winston Churchill. What do you think?

I like Clarice’s idea. ^_^
A bit of Fahrenheit 451 Chris?
Probably b/c he’s a liberal…I wouldn’t expect anything less…where’s Mr Rogers when u need him! lol
“medical waste” ? That’s how you refer to dead HUMAN BEINGS, apostate? Wow…
even “Joan” “CC” and “Reality” don’t go THAT far!
Those babies are taken out of dumpsters RIGHT HERE IN AMERICA, apostate. If you’d BOTHER to do a little research, you’d know that. As for the pictures being “decades old”, a lot of them were taken in the 80s..but so what? Aborted babies today look exactly like those at that stage of development. Pictures NOW look just like pictures THEN. Dead babies are dead, no matter what decade their pictures are taken in.
The pictures of aborted children do not come from overseas. This “medical waste” was tossed in the garbage dumpster of the neighborhood abortion centers by staff who periodically forget procedures for disposal of said “medical waste”. The most recent ones of which I am aware were in Michigan in 2008 (Southfield) and 2011 (Lansing and Saginaw). The remains were removed by pro-lifers, who documented the public health violations and then gave these children proper funerals.
Pro-(abortion)choice advocates just have difficulty dealing with truth. I think the psychologists call it cognitive dissonance.
So go ahead and complain about pro-lifers trespassing. But don’t deny the humanity of these premature human beings.
Hey apostate,
Suppose in 1920’s Germany, people began began reading Hitler’s Mein Kampf and to express their outrage over his ideas, began burning his book in large numbers in protest.
Would this still be a “classic fascist move,” do you think?
Or something that if it became widespread enough, could have saved Germany?
Good question Lori. It reminds me of the hypothetical “would you get in a time machine and shoot Hitler to prevent the war?”
I just LOVE how abortion advocates are all inflamed (pun intended) over this issue but burning viable children in late term abortions doesn’t even make them flinch. Books can be re-printed. Dead babies can’t be ‘reprinted.’ But hey, abortion advocates regularly swim in Hypocrisy Lake. Ohhhh, not liking books is soooo evil but dismembering babies is like, so liberating! Go you.
I’d be laughing all the way to the bank.
Yeah. Tell us something we don’t already know.
Little humans = Evil
Lots of $$$$ = Absolutely Glorious
It this site is soooooooo dumb, why do you all keep showing up? Nervous??
