College student to Sarah Palin: You changed my life
You changed my life… I was in my teens and I got pregnant and I was not going to keep the baby. I had nothing going for me, and then I saw you and how you handled Bristol and how you handled your Trig.
It just made me realize it was going to be okay.
~ Unidentified college student who spoke with Sarah Palin during her trip to Pella, Iowa last year, as retold by Chris Bannon, Breitbart.com, March 16

Mrs. Palin is the most hated woman in America and it breaks my heart. I have yet to get a good explanation from a hater. They cannot really come up with a quality reason.
We can effect others for the better by being a good mom, a good dad, a good student, a good worker. People see people with character and recognize it. We can all have effects on others, hopefully for the better.
Be love. And that joy in everyday life can be hope for others. Living life can have a positive effect. Praise God for all His blessings!! ;)
James: Mr. Smith Goes to Washington is remarkably relevant when you look at how the media are depicted. Seriously. Understanding how Palin was excoriated may be better understood when left-leaning media bias is taken into account, but the film shows that the media can be gratuitously vicious — to the delight of “haters” — entirely apart from reporters’ or publishers’ or producers’ partisan preferences.
It’s an old film and certainly cliche (though I’d not say hackneyed), but all the more interesting for its antiquity if we begin whining that our own era is unique with respect to unfairness from the media. It’s not. Heck, I’d suppose the town criers of old were as bad. ;-)
My Grandmother hates the Palins with a very ugly, vitriolic passion, but can’t, for the life of her, explain to me why. She’s gone so far as to yell at me about how Sarah and Bristol are horrible role models for my daughters and that I should be ashamed of myself for “dragging” my girls to meet Sarah Palin when she came to our military base for a book signing.
The Palins represent so much that is good with life. Honesty, respect for family, loyalty and trust in God.
The display of visceral hatred of Sarah Palin and her family is a tactic of the left, used on targets they deem to be a threat to their ideology. Sarah Palin can at least take comfort in the fact that she is one of many in a long, distinguished line of Americans eviscerated by Democrats and the professional left. These include Robert Bork, Justice Clarence Thomas, Anita Bryant, Phyllis Schlafley, Ronald Reagan, and more recently, Herman Cain. If you are not familiar with the book entitled ”Rules for Radicals” by Saul Alinsky, please understand that Rule #5 is the tactic that has been most effective in shutting down political discourse in this country for decades. Democrats see female and minority conservatives as an existential threat to their power base. In fact, women and black conservatives who have succeeded can’t be allowed to share their stories of achievement nationally. Hence, the ridicule, the disparagement, the continued onslaught of pure nastiness by lefties.
What a nice story! Thank you for posting it! Congratulations to the young woman who chose life. Praying that God will bless her abundantly.
James,
Sarah Palin is beautiful; there are women who hate other women for that sole reason. I suspect that is the source of hatred for Palin….. then, she speaks with conviction and their blood boils. It’s totally irrational.
To dirtdartwife: I read your comments with great sadness. I’m sure your grandmother is a wonderful person who has been unwittingly indoctrinated by whomever she admires and watches on television. All the usual suspects such as Diane Sawyer, Ann Curry, Matt Lauer, Katie Couric, did their best to denigrate and ridicule Gov. Palin. And to a great degree – especially with some people – it worked. I’m so glad that you understand the innate goodness and strong character that is the REAL Sarah Palin. And that you’re sharing the knowledge with your daughter!
The thing I like most about Sarah Palin is the fact that she will never, ever hold any elected office in this country again.
The thing I like most about joan is how delusional she is.
Pfft. Joan. I think what you dislike most about Sarah is that she “dared” to bring a disabled child like Trig (whom you have maligned and mocked) into the world.
One day shortly after her selection and astonished at the depth of hate (as opposed to the strategic overuse of the word by histrionic liberals), I snapped a screenshot of HuffPo just to document the ubiquity of liberal apoplexy. This was by no stretch one of their more zealous days (those would come later).
Stunning, really.

joan: “The thing I like most about Sarah Palin is the fact that she will never, ever hold any elected office in this country again.”
Thus does the Joan-bot suggest how BONKERS it has driven, drives, and will drive her that conservative women have held, do hold, and will hold office throughout government in all 50 states and Washington — and how they and their constituencies have been galvanized by the rabid opposition.
Hal: Heh: I get to reply above your post. First time for that. And Heh again — what xalisae said. It’s well-understood that McCain would have fared far worse without Palin. It’s also probable that the Tea Party’s momentum was fueled by the spectacle of liberal histrionics and bizarre obsession with her womb.
rasqual, if I recall, you might find a very happy Hal posting at this site that same day, rejoicing that McCain has just sealed the Obama election.
Ha. McCain didn’t win because of McCain.
“The thing I like most about joan is how delusional she is.”
I’m delusional? Are you one of the morons who think that Sarah Palin is going to give up a lucrative career as a Fox “News” personality, reality TV/tabloid star, and “author” to try and win the presidential nomination in some future Republican primary? Or even more laughably, settle for a paltry Senate or House seat? Keep dreaming. The Grifter Queen goes where the money and glamour is.
“It’s well-understood that McCain would have fared far worse without Palin.”
Well understood by people who don’t understand how elections work, maybe. John McCain was always going to win a certain percentage of the electorate just because he was the Republican presidential candidate and most people vote along party lines. If you have any credible literature approximating evidence that Sarah Palin’s presence on the ticket boosted his numbers appreciably beyond that floor, please share.
@rasqual
That screen shot says it all! Wow!
Joan, what are you doing commenting here again? Shouldn’t you be packing for China?
So, Joan is allowed, by libtard rules, to call Palin ”The Grifter Queen” because she’s a public figure.
But, I’m not allowed to call Joan “The Baby Killer Queen” because she’s not public enough right? So, can’t call her a slut, a baby-killer-queen, or an imbecile, right? And I can’t call her a self-hating-female-chauvinist-sow because she’s not public enough, right? And I can’t call her a murderous-pinko because she’s not public enough, right? I think I can call her a knee-jerk-baby-hating internet troll right?
Ok, so, Joan, you’re a knee-jerk-baby-hating troll, but I will definitely not call you a murderous pinko, a self-hating misogynist, or a slut. Nope. Won’t call you any of those names.
Mods, all this is meant in jest. But I’ll understand if you need to delete it. ;>)
Yes. How dare Mrs. Palin attempt to recoup some of the legal fees she’s incurred trying to defend herself since this onslaught against her was launched.
Give me a break, joan. 9_9
If Sarah Palin were EXACTLY THE SAME in every way, EXCEPT that she was proabortion, socialist, and anti-Christian, she would be absolutely ADORED by the left and the media.
Well John, sure it follows that if you gave her rational views she would be better received. Still, I think she’d fall short.
Obama’s a Christian.
And he isn’t a socialist.
How’s it feel to vote for an irrational worshiper of the flying spaghetti monster, Hal?
Start with Sarah Palin. Take away the prolife, pro-Christ, pro-economic freedom views. Take away the compassion, the humility. Take away the work ethic and independent spirit. And finally take away her looks and drop her IQ by 20 points. Who do you have? Nancy Pelosi.
“.. and drop her IQ by 20 points.”
I believe psychologists would classify Sarah Palin, less 20 IQ points, as somewhere in the neighborhood of “profoundly retarded”.
John, don’t forget to ADD something though. Interesting constituents!

Great civic pride in her district!
http://www.folsomstreetfair.com/magnitude/
But let’s mock moose hunting wives of snowmobile racers instead. They’re so much more deviant!
“But, I’m not allowed to call Joan “The Baby Killer Queen” because she’s not public enough right?”
Hey, that’s my title. Long live the queen!!!!! Actually, in homage to the late, great Freddie Mercury, I want the title of “Killer Queen.”
Joan: Well then, see? John was being charitable to Pelosi. Give pro-lifers some credit for kindness.
rasqual, I’d rather Obama not believe in the supernatural, but I can’t hold my breath and wait for an atheist to get nominated by a major party.
But doesn’t that particular irrationality, Hal, indicate more idiocy than pro-lifers possess, entirely apart from whatever religious beliefs they may possess?
That is, surely you can see that it’s possible to be pro-life from merely humanist, not religious, grounds. I mean, if you can’t, you’re apparently unaware of how many non-religious folk happen to be pro-life for the simple reason that they think human life is important even in the womb. Whether you agree with them or not, their position is not inconsistent with classical liberalism.
Whereas Obama, as with other lame-ass Christers, is clearly dangerously deluded. Hardly “fact-based.” Yet you vote for someone this ludicrously deluded –and you sugar-coat it with toned-down language of “I’d rather Obama not believe in the supernatural.”
Pure tribalism in action. Freakin’ Sneetches with stars upon thars.
LOL
Joan, you see that? cc doesn’t merely try to one-up you on the interwebs, now she’s trying to steal your title. Are you gonna take it lying down? Come on, it’s your turn to yell the funny words.
Who’s going to animate the two of your avatars for “Internet Troll Death Match”?
Or, we could animate Pelosi and Richards for the title of Death Queen. Pelosi could grab Richards’ ubiquitous gold lapel pin and use it as a weapon. Richards could in turn bend Pelosi into a U and slice off her legs using her own her razor sharp eye sockets. After they vanquish each other, both of their plastic surgeons could jump in the ring to finish the match. I’d watch THAT for a dollar.
(If you’re counting that’s 3 pop culture references in one comment)
I’ll run, Hal. Will you vote for me? ;)
rasqual,
That is why I no longer live in California, nor will I ever again. Following the law is second to having an agenda out there, and they can keep their little shriveled and twisted dirt pile for themselves. I’ll have no part in it. Now that my ex has moved back, I’m really hoping it will fall into the ocean.
I think Hal will be forced to admit that Obama is stupider than secular pro-lifers because he shares in common with other theists a fundamental stupidity.
It must be really tough voting for such stupid people.
I fear CC and joan are at serious risk of losing any titles they have to Megan. She picked up a lot of points on the Doonesbury thread this past weekend. :)
C’mon, Hal, I wanna know: If a secularist like me was nominated by a major party, would you vote for me?
Speaking as a psychologist, no we wouldn’t joan. Nor should you use ablist language so casually.
X, I’d vote for you! Hal, why do you suppose that no atheists have garnered either party’s attention?
Side note: Really? Only one like so far? Was the puppet-filled Celebrity Death Match that bad? What does it say about me that I loved it? :>)
JDC, too bad the Queen of Mean was already Leona H’s handle. They can’t say pro-lifers don’t have a sense of humor.
Wow, I notice the Marriott is sponsoring this year’s Folsom Street Festival. Do they seriously think they’ll get any hook-up business when these guys are getting it on right out in the street?
(sorry for the sidebar, but whenever Pelosi comes up, her bedfellows spring unbidden to mind)
Loved “Celebrity Death Match”. And I immediately recocgnized the Warning page of Rasqual’s link. I saw that once and that was enough!
I used to be a fan of David Letterman. Then I only checked out his guests once in a while. Shortly after Bristol’s pregnancy hit the headlines, I saw him ask Dr. Phil how Sarah couldn’t have had a “birds and bees” talk with Bristol. This was only a few years after he’d had a son out of wedlock in his mid-fifties!
Needless to say, I don’t watch him anymore. Except for those five minutes of Darlene Love every year before Christmas.
ninek, most Americans won’t vote for an atheist, according to polling. We’re a prosecuted minority. We’ll manage. If we are going to have a Christian in the White House, it’s good that at least we have one that seems to embrace the better aspects of religion.
xalisae, I might vote for you. I don’t remember too much of your politics, I’m sorry to say. What’s your platform?
Welfare reform. Legalizing and taxing drugs through a distributor licensing program. Ending tax credits we can’t afford to pay. Raising tariffs on imports as well as making it more cost-effective to manufacture here. Abolishing the minimum wage. Enforcing immigration laws. Mandating elected officials disclose their balance sheets on all accounts they have at least once per quarter. All lobbyist meetings must be recorded/available to the general public. Abolishing marriage and establishing civil unions available to any couple. Giving religious entities the right to refuse to recognize those civil unions in a marriage ceremony.
Anything else I can come up with to piss you off.
oh, and don’t forget: MAKING ABORTION ILLEGAL!!! :3
xalisae, those initiatives don’t piss me off. I’m not sure what tax credits you’re talking about, but I might be in support of that. You might get my vote. However, if you wish to make abortion illegal, I doubt you’ll win the election.
“Child Tax Credit”, which is basically free money.
I don’t doubt I’d win an election if I wanted to make abortion illegal. I think people are much less attached to the practice than you think. I’d start slow by enacting restrictions, eventually leading to it being illegal, because I think it’d be easier for everyone to stomach like that. I’d start with restrictions much like you see in Europe. Speaking of places overseas, I’d probably also start studying their schools and patterning our educational systems after the more successful systems already implemented abroad.
OMGosh. I accidentally hit the like button on Joan’s first comment. There should only be three likes, and if there is a way to undo my like, moderator, would you please? I wish Sarah would have run for President. After all, she came pretty close to beating Obama in ’08. Too bad McCain held her back.
I think you all have the wrong perception of our feelings for Mrs. Palin. Hatred is not what I feel. Personally I hope she continues to be front and center for the Republican Party. The longer she stays around, the better it is for all Democrats. I can’t get enough of her. She is amusing. Trig is one lucky guy!!! I mean look at him in that picture above…He looks so…happy.
Why bother hating when condescension is so close at hand, huh?
Ditto to this from another thread: “Jake is a jerk.”
My my Hans. Touch a nerve did I? Does Trig not look happy?
He does. So why the leering way in which you said it? Is he “one who got away” to you?
One that got away? No I’m happy for little Trig. He got a mom who can absolutely relate to him on a similar intellectual playing field, so to speak.
So then may I ditto my own previous comment?
Ditto away Hans. I’ll sleep fine.
Jake, if you had the IQ of an Einstein along with the character you’re exhibiting, you’d be widely pitied for the tragic mismatch.
xalisae. I agree with looking at European school systems. I have seem some amazing things,(in Norway? somewhere up there). I really think our model needs an overhaul. The abortion restrictions in Europe also seem like a good compromise. Very hard to get later term abortions, but no restrictions in first trimester, if I understand correctly.
Let me know if you run for office, I’ll set up a superpac for you
Gee, Hal, I guess politics really DOES make for strange bedfellows, so-to-speak. :3
Rasqual: It’s well-understood that McCain would have fared far worse without Palin.
I have to disagree with that. Many Republicans saw the choice of Palin as a desperate “Hail Mary” pass play by McCain. McCain’s popularity in the polls was almost a pure linear decline after it.
Nope. Steep ascent after the convention. The steep decline came when McCain made a big show to suspend the campaign and come back to D.C. for the economic crisis, and then just stood on the sidelines.
He played Mr. Nice Guy and was eaten for lunch.
I love the smell of revisionist history in the wee hours of the morning.
X: I love the smell of revisionist history in the wee hours of the morning.
Indeed, X, I’m seeing Hans’ post at 12:24 a.m. ;)
Hans, there was a “bump” in McCain’s popularity after the convention – that’s an almost always-seen thing regardless of who the Vice Presidential choice is, and why I said “*almost* a pure linear decline after” the choice of Palin. But very shortly the decline was on. The Republican convention ended September 4.
McCain’s popularity had been trending up since mid-July, and – I will give you this much – yes, “steep ascent after the convention” is true, but within days – he peaked on September 8 or 9, the linear downtrend was on – you can clearly see it in the chart:
http://www.pollster.com/polls/us/08-us-pres-ge-mvo.php?nr=1
He didn’t suspend the campaign until September 24, and by then – the Palin Effect being in force – he’d already fallen greatly versus Obama. His suspending the campaign didn’t save him from further decline – as he hoped it would, by portraying him as “above politics,” but in no way did it make for “the steep decline,” nor did it even increase his fall. There’s even a little “waggle” in the chart in late September, where if anything, the slope of his decline decreased.
yeah…because I’m sure he never like, talked about suspending his campaign and going to Washington to support the “stimulus” bill first or anything. He kept it on the down-low, right?
It was a big surprise to almost everybody, X.
Anybody who wasn’t paying attention (like…people who aren’t Republicans/conservative Independents). Every time he started talking about going to Washington to do it, or supporting the stimulus in any way, I remember vividly yelling at the television and calling him an idiot. I was beyond pissed when he actually did it.
X, I think the question is how many poll respondents knew ahead of time, or strongly suspected, that he was going to do it. I submit that for all intents and purposes that figure is essentially zero.
However, you may have a point. In any case, if what you say is true, was it only the case after the convention? The chart is clear-cut; quick boost in popularity after the convention, as expected, and then down baby down.
ok. We’ll just assume that every poll respondent is just an ignorant lout instead of taking McCain’s own words and actions into account, because THAT’S reasonable.
McCain rode in on his white horse and disappeared. Hopefully Mitt will joust with a little more enthusiasm.
ok. We’ll just assume that every poll respondent is just an ignorant lout instead of taking McCain’s own words and actions into account, because THAT’S reasonable.
X, why do you think people knew that McCain was going to suspend the campaign, back as far in time as when he picked Palin?
It was a surprise to many very conservative publications and news outlets, and was seen my many Republicans themselves as just as much of a “Hail Mary” attempt as was the selection of Palin.
