by LauraLoo
Not only is this story riveting on its own merits, it shares some parallels to God’s divine intervention in saving human lives.

Can anyone explain to me… how and why we lost our faith in guardian angels?
Del, I think it is in part due to the fear of being labeled a bible-thumping religious wingnut. Somewhere along the line, the left picked and picked and we gave in (and some of us even joined them).
But the times they are a changing. Ask your guardian angels to help with this change!
Well…I have no fear of being called that. They can call me whatever they like. The TRUTH is, I’ve been rescued out of dangerous situations SEVERAL times, the first being before I was even born. I KNOW my God sends His angels! :D
That’s a really cool story.
“ Can anyone explain to me… how and why we lost our faith in guardian angels?”
Well, some of us either don’t have them, or they were out for a coffee break most of our lives. :/
My faith is in Christ alone.
I do however believe in angels.
Jack,
God has always been with you.
God gives us guardian angels and patron Saints and even His own Mother.
It is rude and arrogant of us to reject those gifts.
It’s just my opinion and I can’t prove it…. but the Spirit of the Age that rejects angels and Saints and miracles as gifts — is the same spirit that rejects children as gifts from God.
Del,
I do not share that belief that you have but I am sure you are at least tolerant of others opinions.
I am not Catholic.
John 3:16
Jack,
If your guardian angel hadn’t been with you all your life, you wouldn’t still be here with us.
I couldn’t help but notice: six or seven men (it was hard to count as they all moved about) were there in the rescue attempt. There had to have been at least a couple women in the vicinity. But it was men who ran into the flood waters to do what God ordained them to do: protect. It didn’t matter to any of them that there was already another guy in the water working at it, they responded to their gut instinct. It’s good to see. We women have our invaluable role as well…
Hey, 2000 years ago angels rolled away a several-ton stone. I don’t think a couple of shorts in the electric window would be too difficult. :)
Jack, once we get through boot camp here, I expect we’ll get all our answers. ;)

John 3:16
==================================
Dear Carla —
You don’t have to be Catholic to appreciate the angels and human souls in heaven, all working and praying to get us there too. This is the heritage of all Christians, the faith of the Apostles.
I only mentioned it in this thread because it sure looks to me like God sent an angel to open that window and hold back the water from flooding her car.
St. Josemaria Escriva (d. 1975) was saved from drowning by an angel. Actually, he was acutely aware of his own guardian angel and those of other persons. We have plenty of miracles and evidence to support our faith.
Concerning John 3:16 — that verse always left me with a big question: What is it EXACTLY that we are called to believe if we will “have eternal life”?
Then I found the answer: Jesus explains exactly what we must believe in John 6:53-58. It’s a hard teaching, which is still rejected even by many who say they follow Christ.
This is the faith that the martyrs died for. I don’t mean to argue — I offer it as a gift of truth to the world.
I do not subscribe to all that you believe Del.
And I am fine with that.
God bless you.
Hey Carla! I am just curious what you do believe about angels, if you are comfortable elaborating. You said that you believe in them but you disagree that angels help people. What do you think angels are? What do you think they do?
I’m “fine” with this too. We must not let the splintered state of modern Christianity fall into mere tribalism.
But you know how it is…. someday, I must give an accounting to Christ the Just Judge. And I don’t want to say that I failed to share the Good News whenever I had the opportunity.
Meanwhile — the pro-life movement needs more Evangelical activists, and other non-Catholic activists, and especially more non-Christian activists. The slaughter of the innocents is a crime that burdens all peoples.
Hi Alexandra,
I did not disagree that angels help people.
I do not believe we all have our own appointed guardian angel.
I do not believe that there are those in heaven praying me there. I am assured of my eternal salvation. I find my comfort, hope and joy in Him. Christ alone.
There is much more that I don’t believe because there is no scriptural basis for it.
I of course believe there ARE angels! They do help us and fight in the spiritual realm against the minions of satan. There is great spiritual warfare going on all around us. And that is scriptural.
I will keep my eyes fixed on Him.
I believe that God was with that woman in her car I believe HE opened that window.
Really don’t want to get into it. But I think I just did.
The good news Del is that God came to earth as man, lived, died on a cross and was raised from the dead. He lives and reigns and took the punishment FOR us. We need only accept what He has done and believe and we will be with Him for eternity.
And yes I will give an accounting as well.
(I feel kinda sheepish, Carla. You know all of this, don’t you! You’ve heard it many times by now. Let me post this, in case some of your millions of Catholic readers haven’t heard their own faith in Biblical terms lately. Thanks.)
“He took the PUNISHMENT for us”…. that covers part of the Gospel, but not the best part.
He also made the perfect sacrifice of restoration for us. And He gave us His Body and Blood as the “products of sacrifice” for nourishing our souls with His life-giving grace.
But I still dread my own judgment and punishment. Jesus warns that many who cry out “Lord, Lord” will not enter the Kingdom of God. And when He “separates the sheep from the goats,” a lot of Christians will be surprised to find themselves on the wrong side. I’m a pro-life activist for the sake of the mothers and children, but for my own sake as well!
Jesus was pretty clear that we must do our part to love the poor and protect the innocent, or He won’t recognize us when we stand for judgment.
I have FAITH in the Body and Blood of Christ, whom I receive as My Savior at every Mass.
I obey, with LOVE, His commands to avoid sin and offer charitable LOVE for others… as best I can.
And so I have great HOPE for my eternal salvation.
This is the fullness of saving faith… this is why St. Paul assures us that Faith, Hope, and Love endure when all else passes away. These are the things that remain attached to our souls as we stand in judgment.
Carla:
Hebrews 13:2. Obvious scriptural evidence that angels take on human form and appearance. I don’t think we can say they only operate in the spiritual realm. Too many accounts of angels in the earthly realm. Scripture clearly teaches that angels are sent to guard, keep watch, etc. No, angels can not save your soul, there is only one way to the Father, and that is through Jesus Christ – but clearly scripture teaches that angels carry out missions for God, as surely as God had a purpose for sparing this woman’s life – He very well could have sent an angel to roll down the window – and how cool is that?? :)
You don’t have to believe in gravity either, but it still works.
Did I say otherwise?
I agree with what you said!!! :)
Well, some of us either don’t have them, or they were out for a coffee break most of our lives. :/
I think your guardian angels have put in a lot of overtime with few breaks. Had they taken more breaks, you might no longer be with us Earthlings, Jack. (:
Hey Carla, thanks for elaborating. I’m sorry if you felt I dragged you into an explanation you didn’t want to get into.
No worries, Alexandra!!
The last thread on doctrinal differences had a comment count of 3,000+.
:)
Actually, Carla, your theology is very orthodox and traditional. Me likey!
The good news Del is that God came to earth as man, lived, died on a cross and was raised from the dead.
This video was amazing.
