Glory and power be to You, the only wise King
I awakened today to this song playing in my head…

Hallelujah. No matter what happens today,
Holy, Holy, Holy
Is the Lord God Almighty
Who was, and is, and is to come,
With all creation I sing:
Praise to the King of Kings!
You are my everything,
And – I – will – adore YOU
Dear God,
Please have mercy on us. We don’t deserve it. But please help us. Please stop the angel of death who currently occupies the White House, who supports the unfettered murders of little babies made in Your image, and who shows contempt for your first chosen people, Israel.
That said, whatever outcome of the election You decide today I accept is the best decision, according to Your plan. I trust You. I love you.
Jill
Jill – this is my FAVORITE song we sing at church! I agree collectively as a nation we do not deserve mercy (for just the sin of abortion alone) but perhaps God will show mercy, especially to His remnant. I WILL be joyful by keeping God and His eternal perspective in mind. LL <3

Amen Jill!
Today, I woke up instead thinking to the scripture passage where it’s described how entire nations and even some “elected” will be deceived by the “Father of Lies”: Satan.
I think that we are experiencing just that at this moment. As you said the “angel of death” in the White House has been operating.
But perserverance in the Truth will save us.
May God spare us!

That was a refreshing prayer.

When you say “whatever outcome of the election You decide today I accept is the best decision, according to Your plan,” you’re saying that whatever happens in the election is what God wants. I don’t believe this is true. I think God gave people free will to do right or wrong. I think there is a big difference between what God allows people to do with their free will (love or kill) and what God wants people do do (love). When people use their free will to choose to disobey God and support, for example, abortion and abortion proponents, this is not “God’s plan.” I think it’s in our belief that murder is always contrary to God’s law that that we find our moral obligation to oppose elected abortion supporters in the first place before they are elected, and to vote them out if they’re already in power. Saying whatever happens in an election is “God’s plan” totally frees people from a sense of obligation to oppose bad things that elected officials do, and can make people feel that they’re not obligated to vote or speak up because “whatever happens will be what God wants.” The lives of moms and babies are depending on pro-life voters not feeling complacent today or tomorrow, no matter who is elected.

Yeah, Jill Stanek. Well known as a queen of complacency! :)

Brian, now you made me feel stupid. I certainly didn’t mean to imply that Jill or her readers are complacent. Jill’s leadership and blog and wisdom have certainly saved many lives! She is a true hero. I am just eager for anyone who sees her blog to vote pro-life today. Sorry if I sounded critical, Jill. Your prayer was beautiful, and I should have mentioned this before writing about minor thing I disagreed with.

Joe,
I don’t think Brian understood your comment.
He’s just twisting it.

The fact is we don’t know God’s plan or what He wants. The day Obama was elected, someone asked me what I thought. I said I thought it would be great for the pro-life movement. I predicted (correctly, I think) that his fanaticism would wake up many complacent pro-life people. God’s canvas is vast and includes all time and space. History teaches us that His plan can include things getting worse before they get better. Thank you, Jill for your song and prayer. Today, I will be repeating the simplest prayer for our country over and over again: God bless America!

Mama MT, you say “we don’t know God’s plan or what He wants.” I agree that we can’t know God’s plan on a cosmic scale, but on earth we have His Commandments, the Church, and our consciences so that we’re not clueless as you say. Just because things sometimes get “worse before they get better” doesn’t imply that God ever wants things to get worse first, or that he caused things to get worse first. It could be that no matter how bad we screw things up, by our free will, against His wishes, good always follows because God’s love and goodness prevails. Bad things happening by our free will aren’t ever God’s fault or desire. This was my point. Also, if God ever caused something “worse” to happen first, on what basis could you even call it “worse,” if He willed it? I hope everyone joins me in voting for Romney today to protect mothers and babies. Mama MT, I join you in saying God Bless America.

Joe,
You explained it very well.
It reminds me of that piece of the Bible were God tells humanity (paraphrasing): I put before your Life and Death, a blessing and a curse. Choose Life so that you’ll be happy!
God doesn’t want us to choose Death or Evil, but in His immense love for us, He leaves us free to choose.
Our choice, however, does have consequences! Potentially catastrophic!
I voted for Romney/Ryan during early voting!

Richard, there are many of us who think a Romney presidency would be “potentially catastrophic.” I hope we’ll never find out.

Hal, the fact is that the Obama presidency has been highly catastrophic (without potential) already!

Hal, Richard is correct Obama has already been highly catastrophic for millions of innocent unborn babies who have been mutilated. I’ll say one thing for you Hal, you are consistent, so sad.

Hal, you do have a choice and I guess you’ve made yours, but the consequences you will have to face are eternal.
Life or Death, blessing or curse.
I hope you don’t really believe that killing millions of unborns is a “blessing” as Obama and his liberal friends would like everybody to believe!

BTW Jill, I forgot to post thanks for you sharing this song it is one of my favorites and it gave me such joy to hear it again. I was able to worship with the video knowing that “He is the only wise King”. Bless you.

Holy Spirit
Please infuse in the electorate a desire for a change, a desire to protect the innocent, a desire to vote out a pro-abortion President, and a desire to vote for Mr. Romney. Father, please protect and support Mr. Romney in his current prolife convictions and please move his heart so that he embraces a 100% prolife position without any exceptions. I ask this in the name of your eternal Son, Jesus Christ.

How do you figure? (just kidding, I know what you mean). Let’s just say, I’m not too concerned with eternal curses.

God’s reply: “Nope. In fact, I’ll make sure outspoken pro-life candidates like Todd Akin and Richard Mourdock lose.”

It’s official. When you have a majority voting in candidates like Obama and “gaff” Biden, ”Cherokee” Elizabeth Warren and Jesse Jackson Jr. (who ‘campaigned’ with a total of one 90-second robo-call and is currently back at the Mayo Clinic), federally indicted Derrek Smith, additional states sanctioning gay marriage, 8% unemployment with a $16 trillion national debt, and the financial force-feeding of our taxpayer money towards Planned Parenthood, we are a morally depraved and stupid society. God is not mocked – His judgment remains on America and, as hard as it is for me to accept this verdict, we get the government we deserve.

What is it about gay marriage you don’t agree with?
I’m leaving for work now so I won’t see your response until this evening.

Here is a good article that explains why gay marriage is not a gay issue or a human rights issue (at least not in the way the MSM portrays it) and why some homosexuals are against gay marriage.

Your Reckoning , I disagree.
God has spoken clearly a long time ago: “Thou shall not kill”!
But the majority of our people have chosen (because we are made in God’s image, free) Death over Life, Darkness over Light, curse over blessings, slavery over freedom, injustice over justice.
Today is a sad day for America.
An image is stuck in my mind of the Obama logo “Forward” pointing in the direction of an abyss!
It’s time for all of us to pray even more, fold up our sleeves and continue to fight even more for the unborn until abortion will be no more.
We only have today to do this.
The past is no more. The future is not here yet.
We need to start NOW!

Joe,
You are correct that God gave us free will from the beginning, and yet Scripture offers several instances of God increasing attachment to a particualr life of sin by prople who had chosen sin over him. Read St. Paul in Romans 1:25 for an explanation of what God has done with homosexuals (evidence of which abounds today in their extreme attachment to having things their way). Another example is somewhere in the story of Sodom and Gomorrah, although I’m not near a Bible now to locate it for you. There are probably others.
A friend of mine puts it this way. After we repeatedly state to God, “My will be done!”, we should get a chill up our spines when God’s eventual response is, “Thy will be done!”
He has given us free will, so much so that if we chose sin over Him He gives us more of what we’ve chosen by increasing our access to it and therefore our attachment to it.
Jill is onto something. My sense for over 5 years is that we are hurtling headlong into a sort of Babylonian Captivity because of the sins of our county and all of Western Civilization (aka Christendom). The events of these 5 years up through this election do not contradict what I’ve understood to be part of his plan.
Study the Bible Timeline leading to Christ from Adam and you will see the pattern. Remember what transpired every time His poeple abandoned Him: He abandoned them - never permanently, but usually for a time of sufficient length for the sinful generations too attached to their sins to repent to have completely died off. THEN (each time) He restored His people and made a new covenant with them to replace the one(s) they had broken.
We certainly have turned away from Him at least in equal measure to the Israelites of old (indeed, identifying with them as a “stiff-necked people” is a staple of our properly understanding ourselves as Christian Catholics). The big difference is that Jesus Christ is the last and final covenant, so it remains to unfold how He will exercise His will for us when we avail ourselves to His Sacramental Gifts, especially Reconciliation and the Eucharist.
So, to sum it up, you’re right – He gave us free will. What you left out was recognizing that He goes further – He sometimes gives us more of what we want.
We should not welcome that development, even though we are probably distracted by our “good fortune” to much to remember the old adage, “be careful what you wish for.”

If the angel of death in the White House shows such contempt for the Chosen People, why did 70% of the Jewish voters in the country vote for him?

When I read this, I though of this thread and the discussion of God’s plan, particularly “…even what is perverted must of necessity be in harmony with, and in dependence on, and in some part of the order of things…” I would call “the order of things” “God’s plan.”
“He, then, who prefers what is right to what is wrong, and what is well-ordered to what is perverted, sees that the peace of unjust men is not worthy to be called peace in comparison with the peace of the just. And yet even what is perverted must of necessity be in harmony with, and in dependence on, and in some part of the order of things, for otherwise it would have no existence at all.” – St. Augustine’s “The City of God”

So God chose the election? Ridiculous. If he were not fictional he would be worthy of nothing but disdain.

Many American Jews who might otherwise vote Republican have moved to Israel. Some of the Jews who voted for Reagan at 20 voted for Netanyahu at 50.
