Stanek Sunday quote: “Use your powerful arm to save those sentenced to death”
God our Savior, help us. Then glory will come to you. Be true to your name. Save us and forgive our sins….
Listen to the groans of the prisoners. Use your powerful arm to save the lives of those who have been sentenced to death.
~ Psalm 79: 9,11, New International Reader’s Version

“Sentenced to death.” This is why we should not use the ambiguous “pro-life” but anti-legal abortion or abortion criminalizer or abortion outlawer. The other side should be called abortion legalizers or pro-legal abortion.
“Pro-life” automatically sucks one into discussions about the death penalty which Jill Stanek, like many abortion criminalizers, supports. There is no necessary contradiction between believing abortion should be illegal and supporting the death penalty. It can easily be argued that the value of the life of the human embryo or fetus — by definition an innocent life — outweighs the burden placed on the girl or woman legally required to carry to term and give birth. Since that life is innocent, it is not parallel to the life of someone sentenced to death who is presumably an adult and has committed a heinous crime.
The term “pro-life” remains problematic since the deliberate extinction of human life is supported under some circumstances.
