Pro-life vid of day: Abortion advocates argue for animal rights
by Hans Johnson
Just weeks after a panel on CNN refused to see the worth of a preborn baby’s right to life, there was outrage on the same network over that of an animal’s. Controversy erupted recently over the decision (choice) of the Copenhagen Zoo to kill a young, healthy giraffe because they couldn’t use him in their breeding program.
Anderson Cooper asked the zoo’s scientific director, Bengt Holst, why they just couldn’t transfer the animal to another zoo or preserve, and he answered that they couldn’t be sure if it would have a good life elsewhere – that it might be “substandard”. (If you think this sounds reminiscent of arguments against the adoption option you’re not alone.) In response, Cooper asked: “Doesn’t the life of the animal itself have some value…?”
Later, still puzzled, he turned to Jack Hanna of the Columbus Zoo and noted: “What he seems to be saying is that the animal itself doesn’t really have any right to live.” But just before this Hanna summed it all up: “Who are we to judge, Anderson, who should live and not live a short life?”

What’s sad is that most of CNN’s viewers heard about this giraffe that got turned into dinner for another animal, but few probably have heard about the many infants euthanized (murdered) in the nearby Netherlands because they are disabled, or the many who can now legally join that throng in Belgium. Jack Hanna works for a zoo, but Anderson Cooper is supposed to be a journalist. He isn’t the worst, but his and society’s priorities are way out of whack.
Abortion advocates being hypocritical. Hmm, what else is new?
I’m not sure we can describe these people as “abortion advocates,” and I was just as outraged about the killing of the giraffe as they were. (My outrage also extends to the killing of unborn human animals. I’m consistent like that.)
I emailed CNN. Don’t think they will respond…

Hmm, I believe Anderson Cooper is pro-choice, I don’t know if it’s an issue that he advocates a lot though. But I agree with you. I’m really not okay with killing a helpless animal because he’s not good breeding stock (that’s disgusting), but unborn babies should be treated with the same respect.
