Massive props to this site for not blaming Obama for the missing flight (yet)…but I’m guessing if we give it about 20 posts, one of the right-wing crazies will figure out a tie.
I’m voting for #1 this week.
Come on EGV,
Everyone knows its Bush’s fault!
Mary, I’m blaming Pajama Boy.
I’m blaming the Lost producers.
I like the last one the best.
Thomas R, and everybody – should we worry about Crimea, in the first place?
Most people in Crimea speak Russian and identify as Russians. If Nikita Khrushchev had not given Crimea to Ukraine in 1954, would this even be a big deal now, or a deal at all?
Similarly, if the Florida Keys had been given to Cuba, and later they wanted to leave Cuba and join the US, would it be a big deal?
Scotland is voting later this year on whether to leave the United Kingdom. What if they say “yes”?
I think ETs are another possibility.
Hi Doug,
It just shows we know and understand so little about the history and cultural perspectives of these situations. Some of these conflicts go back centuries and will continue for centuries.
Sometimes you can only let people duke it out until the best man wins….at least for now.
“Similarly, if the Florida Keys had been given to Cuba, and later they wanted to leave Cuba and join the US, would it be a big deal?”
Well, even if in that situation the US actually went and took the Florida keys from Cuba against the will of the people there, no one would do anything. The US can do anything and everything to Latin America and no one cares. Go ‘Murica rah rah rah.
I still am not sure what the people who think we should get involved in the Ukraine thing think we should actually do. I’m not defending Obama because I’m not his biggest fan, I just don’t get what people want. Should we start bombing them or something? Or do we miss the Cold War here or what? Idk.
Mary, yes – I think a ‘hands-off’ policy is best, with respect to Crimea.
I don’t know how much sanctions can really hurt Russia, and there is also the question of how much Russia can hurt us – I think it’s more, due to us importing more from them.
Jack, I’d hold off on the bombs. As for the Cold War, we still have a lot of sentiment where “If Russia does it, it’s bad,” and I think that’s at work right now. Not to say that Putin’s not a greedy wildman in some ways, but given how the people in Crimea feel, what outside intervention is really warranted and likely to be successful?
Thomas R. has not weighed in yet – maybe he went over there to straighten Putin out. ; )
I think he’s trying to sign up putin for a boxing match or martial arts fight with obama Doug :-)
I don’t see militarily anything we can do to stop Putin but I had to go with #2 regarding Putin and his winning bracket taking over other countries one by one which BHO thought was a big joke but he’s got Ellen’s support at least. He leeringly smirked at Romney like he was an idiot when they debated, told him he was 20 years behind the times, that “the cold war was long over” and that Russia’s Putin was not a ”geopolitical threat”. Hmmmm. Who’s the incompetent idiot now?
However #3 was a close second with Russian leaders laughing at (even tweeting insults) at the campaigner-in-chief just a couple of years after his re-election as they take over other countries. You talk about an empty suit, it would be funny if it were not so very tragic that the only country that used to stand up to bullies like Putin is no longer considered “the leader of the free world” but the joke of the free world. Like I said I am not talking about military action (Americans are burned out on wars, I did not agree with Bush going into Iraq in the first place and thought it was a huge mistake) but now when we need to take a stand this present administration is so weak that it is like using an acorn to send a message to the lumberjack who is taking down the forest with a electric saw. BHO’s administration are more devoted to being a threat to The Little Sisters of the Poor, Hobby Lobby, the Catholic Church, prolifers, and pro-family religious conservatives who believe in the tenets of their church than they are to being a threat to the bullies of the world. May God help the nation and the world.
I don’t like BHO because of what he stands for and I don’t like being right on this because our entire world including my children will suffer the consequences of what he is doing and he doesn’t have a clue.
Jill and other Illinois prolifers that I know warned from their encounters with BHO in the Illinois legislature years before that he was a radical, leftist, pro-abort ideologue without a conscience even about killing babies who survived botched abortions, it was “above his pay-grade” then to know when life began and it is “above his pay-grade” now to be the leader of the free world. We are in a very dangerous place, even those who don’t believe in God should be afraid for this country and for the world. Please join me in praying for this country and the world.
Today is the first for me to criticize a cartoon. Bob Gorrell’s Flight 370 is so lame I can’t stand it.
“Thomas R, and everybody – should we worry about Crimea, in the first place?”
Doug you presumptuous soul LOL. All things considered if you had paid attention to me past couple of weeks, I am more concerned about Obama’s idiotic running of his mouth about the sanctions. Bob Fodden sums it up best (3rd cartoon). I am concerned precisely because Obama can’t put his money where his mouth is and Putin could careless….
I just weighed in Doug. Satisfied?
Most people in Crimea speak Russian and identify as Russians. If Nikita Khrushchev had not given Crimea to Ukraine in 1954, would this even be a big deal now, or a deal at all?
Well, here in Philadelphia there are many Eastern Europeans — predominantly Russian, but also Ukranian, Georgian, and more and more Albanians. The Russians and Ukranians get very upset if you mix them up.
Doug needs to read up on Ukraine history phillymiss.
Just now Malaysian authorities announced that the Fight 370 ended its run above the Indian Ocean in a very remote area and they are looking for it deep down. So Gorrell’s cartoon is still lame?
For once I actually found one of these cartoons funny. It was the last one.
Yes, Thomas, there are no survivors. How heartbreaking. But at least the families have some closure.
Prolifer L: He leeringly smirked at Romney like he was an idiot when they debated, told him he was 20 years behind the times, that “the cold war was long over” and that Russia’s Putin was not a ”geopolitical threat”. Hmmmm. Who’s the incompetent idiot now?
Oh come on, what do you think Romney was going to do? : P
What do you want Obama to do, that he’s not doing?
TR: Today is the first for me to criticize a cartoon. Bob Gorrell’s Flight 370 is so lame I can’t stand it.
Thomas, it was right on – I thought the same thing myself, for days upon days of “news” about it.

I just weighed in Doug. Satisfied?
Yes, Thomas. : ) Glad you got back in.

“Thomas R, and everybody – should we worry about Crimea, in the first place?”
Doug you presumptuous soul LOL.
Ha! I’ve come to like you a lot, TR. You are like many people with whom I’ve played online games, people from the Balkans, Turkey, Poland, Belarus, Ukraine…. Good gamers, to say the least.

Bob Fodden sums it up best (3rd cartoon). I am concerned precisely because Obama can’t put his money where his mouth is and Putin could care less….
Well what is “putting his money where his mouth is”? You don’t want military action, do you? Most Americans, including me, don’t. What’s left? Sanctions, and those are being put in place.
Correct me if I’m wrong – I think you just want to whine and moan about Obama, but if he did less, you would complain, and if he did more you would complain.

Yeah, like when you get on the CB radio in Miami, and start complaining about all the “Mexicans.” : P

Thomas R: Doug needs to read up on Ukraine history phillymiss.
Oh no you don’t, you rascal! I was talking about the Crimea. Far different from the Ukraine.
You want to know what I think about the Ukraine? Not like the Crimea – Ukraine much more wants to be in close association with Europe, and much less sentiment for Russia. Hard times there, right now, and nobody can predict anything for sure.
But where the Crimea has wanted to go back to Russia for a long time, the Ukraine is the opposite.
As for Georgia, I really do not know.
Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia – Russia has a lot of leverage with those countries because it, not Europe, supplies so much in the way of resources (and power?). There is no sidestepping economic reality, here….
“Correct me if I’m wrong – I think you just want to whine and moan about Obama, but if he did less, you would complain, and if he did more you would complain.”
No Doug, I want Obama to shut it if he can’t follow-through. He is just looking foolish on the international stage for lack of substance regarding these sanctions. The ones that are being put in place will accomplish zilch.
Thomas R: Doug needs to read up on Ukraine history phillymiss.
“Oh no you don’t, you rascal! I was talking about the Crimea. Far different from the Ukraine. “
Thanks for clarifying Doug. But in all honesty if there were no deals made post WWII, Ukraine would still be Polish as it was for centuries and there would be no Crimea issue now :(
And FYI I write from the Windy City where there is a large population of my kind.
Thanks Thomas R. “I just want him to shut it if he is not going to follow through.” God help the nation and the world.
“I want Obama to shut it if he can’t follow-through.”
Well, sanctions are being put in place….
I’m not saying they are really a good idea, either – sanctions can work both ways, and we need stuff from Russia.
That’s what we are saying all along Doug about the sanctions in case you’ve missed it. And about the stuff from Russia – what do you think we need and is Putin going to oblige?
