Pregnant Sudanese Christian gets death sentence for leaving Islam
by Carder
We gave you three days to recant but you insist on not returning to Islam. I sentence you to be hanged to death.
~ Twitter feed from the AmnestyUK Media team, quoting a judge who has sentenced a pregnant Christian in Sudan, Meriam Yehya Ibrahim, to death for converting to Christianity, along with lashing for alleged adultery, NBC News, May 15

Great will be her reward in Heaven. She has honored and magnified the LORD Jesus Christ who is to be forever praised, Amen! LL <3

Heart-breaking. So much unnecessary killing. So much heroic courage.
Any word from the Obama Administration?

Amen LauraLoo!!
Barbaric. Absolutely barbaric.
God help us.
She did not convert to Christianity. She is married to an American. A Christian. She is in prison with her 20 month old son. The sentence is to be carried out 2 years after her child is born next month.

This is so heartbreaking. What a vile, violent religion!

And where are all of the feminists???
This is the war on women!

At least they won’t be killing her unborn child, small comfort, but it gives time perhaps to save her. Speak ill of these barbarians though and you are branded one over here, like how Brandeis University (with its strong Jewish heritage) dis-invited a speaker on the topic of the brutal subjugation of women by Islamic governments. Progressives and their “war on women” political smear rhetoric would be laughable if the focus of their targets wasn’t so tragically far from true injustices like this.

“And where are all of the feminists???”
I thought the same thing Carla. Also, where are all the liberals who vehemently oppose the death penalty, even for child rapists and child killers? Certainly they would vehemently oppose the death penalty for Dr. Meriam Yehya Ibrahim.

Hey now, I vehemently oppose the death penalty for even child rapists and killers and why in the world would I not oppose the death penalty for someone like her who has done nothing wrong at all? I read they won’t even let her son out of prison to be raised by the dad because he is a Christian.
I don’t think this is a great example of the subjugation of women though, they do the same to male apostates as well. I was reading an article from a Bangladeshi atheist who is in the US for school who nearly got his entire family and himself killed for blogging on atheist matters and being in a heavy metal band. People who grew up with religious freedom don’t seem to realize how incredibly important it is. The only way to counteract religious extremism of all sorts is strong protection for religious freedom and social stability.
I really hope someone can help her, if the sentence isn’t being carried out for two years than hopefully human rights organizations can raise enough alarm to save her.

Jack/DLPL, glad to see you are truly consistent in your anti-death penalty views and are vocalizing your opposition to this death penalty sentence. Well stated.

Just out of interest, are you talking about this article?

Eric I’m confused. Why would people who oppose the death penalty not oppose the death of an innocent woman??

I think that this is more of a poor reflection on Islam instead of on a feminist issues. It’s not because she’s a woman; she’s being killed because she married a Christian (I’m assuming that that is the ‘adultery’ charge? Having sex with her Christian husband??). In a free society, or even with most Christians, the offender is punished, maybe even cut off from the society, but not brutally killed.
This is horrific.

LibertyBelle, in most of the mainstream media, I do not hear the same opposition to her death sentence as I do to the death penalty for convicted killers. Most of the MSM appears silent on her death sentence.

The liberal elitists are not going to defend this woman.
In general, they believe that the world already has too many children, too many Africans, and too many Christians.
They do not believe in human rights if those human rights might advance the number of children, Africans, and Christians. Liberal elitists throw their support toward human rights only when those right decrease the numbers of “vermin” — so they advance contraception, abortion, divorce, and homosexuality as “human rights” that are more urgent than our authentic human rights to life and marriage and religious freedom. Especially in the Southern Hemisphere.

Del –
Why are you trying so incredibly hard to make this an American political issue? Look outside our borders a little bit…and look outside Republican and Democratic for just a second. You have one shade of glasses you are trying to see the whole world through – and it doesn’t always work.
Prayer works folks – keep praying.

Yep, that’s the one JDC, it was pretty interesting. Of course, profanity and crudity warning for anyone who follows that link, anything on Cracked is bound to be at least slightly crude lol.

Liberal elitists are all over the world, Ex-GOP.
I didn’t mention America or American politics at all in my post. I was not thinking of those.
I suppose that I as thinking of the UN and Europe as well as the folks at home.

Of course, now that I think about it, there probably aren’t too many articles going around on that specific subject matter.

So you are telling me that your first post on the Obama Administration was simply wondering if they had said anything, and your second post had nothing to do with individuals in America – you were talking about stereotypical liberal elitists, what, from Sudan? That is what you were saying?

Yes. There were several hours between those posts.
Please be assured that I do not think about American politics as much as you do.
But I do worry about cultural attitudes. And, as a Catholic, I tend to think more globally than most. I worry about the dominance of liberal elitists everywhere, and Obama is one of them.
I understand that British PM David Cameron has spoken out strongly and taken some real action concerning this international tragedy.

As far as I know, Barack has done know more than permit Michelle to have her picture taken while holding a sign. A news search did not turn up any comments from Barack.
There is such a thing as a noble and self-sacrificing liberalism that seeks the real advancement of women and the poor and the oppressed. Pope Francis is an example.
Obama does not represent noble liberalism. He is an elitist, one who sees the poor and minorities and feminists as tools for his own advancement.

Del – interesting. So your blasting of liberals worldwide was about the British PM, who really isn’t that liberal at all.
On Obama, that’s an interesting viewpoint. I simply see him as a pretty good President that brought us back from near economic collapse in this nation. I just wish the country had longer memories so that one day, they remember what happened the last time a conservative was in office.
Anyway, two questions for you:
– What specifically do you think the US should do in Sudan? What specific actions? You seem to think Obama should do something – so what do you think should be done?
– Why now? Hundreds of thousands have died there over the last decade, and millions displaced. Now one lady is sentence to death, and we should do whatever you are going to layout from question one? Why didn’t we care about this until now?

I’m more disappointed that Muslims have not spoken out against this death sentence than I am that the US government has done little. I honestly don’t think the Sudan government really cares what a bunch of western nations think about Shariah Law.
This lady was never Muslim; her mother raised her as a Christian after her Muslim father abandoned the family when she was six years old.
It will be bad news for Christians, homosexuals, feminists and atheists wherever Islam adherents become dominant. I wanted to think that Jordan and Palestine were different, that the Muslims there are moderate but now I wonder if they are playing us for fools.

Yes, but I would rather see her be reunited with her husband and son and have a long, happy life and die peacefully in her bed!
